Top 10 Best Scary Roblox Horror Games to Play in 2023

The Mimic

The Mimic makes use of atmosphere instead of relying on jump scares. Although, it does have jump scares, too! There’s a combination of finding pages for information like in Slender games, but you aren’t required to grab them. However, they direct you through the game and give you context about what’s happening. The primary ghost seems to be inspired by classic Japanese ghost stories, and that makes the experience particularly interesting for players like me who love ghost stories from all cultures.

Apeirophobia

With a name that means “Fear of Infinity,” Apeirophobia is heavier on puzzle elements than other games. It makes you work to find your way, meaning that you’re forced to explore hallways that look abandoned and feel like mazes. Also, you sometimes get chased through these halls. These elements make the experience stressful at best, but also frightening as you try to solve puzzles before the monster finds you for another chase sequence.

SCP Roleplay

Recently updated, SCP Roleplay now features the infamous SCP-087. SCP is a horror game that has a ton of variety. Every contained creature is different, and that means there are different ways to deal with each one. Some creatures rely on building anticipation as their biggest fear element, and others are more upfront with chasing and jump scares. Of the games on this best Roblox horror games list, SCP Roleplay has the most potential to have something that any horror player can enjoy.

Doors

You can play Doors alone or with others, but going solo ups the fear factor. Head through a series of doors and randomized rooms behind them. Some have a frightening appearance, but others have monsters that you need to avoid if you don’t want to die. You’ll also find puzzle elements, as some doors require a hidden key or make you complete a puzzle to unlock them and progress deeper. The randomization feature gives Doors plenty of replayability, and it becomes a personal challenge to open more doors than last time.

The Rake

Based on a cryptid CreepyPasta, The Rake puts you with other players trying to survive encounters with a grey not-quite-human creature. You can play as many rounds as you want, trying to find a safe place during the day so you can survive the night. As you make it through the night without dying to the Rake, your score goes up. With how dark the nights are, you end up scaring each other from anticipation of the Rake being around every corner. It really keeps you on the edge of the seat, then gives you moments of safety during the day before scaring it again.

The Asylum

Play alone or with a friend. The Asylum puts you in the shoes of an explorer who’s wandering an abandoned asylum from the 1910s. The art and atmosphere give the experience classic Silent Hill vibes. Even with a flashlight, this game feels much darker than others in Roblox. But that contributes to the fear because you can’t rely on your sight here to tell you what’s coming. This makes it tough to prepare for jump scares, especially when you can go for a long time without one popping up. What begins as harmless exploration grows stranger the deeper you go. However, I’ll leave the real mysteries a secret for you to find on your own.

Judy

Judy is more plot-based than a lot of Roblox horror experiences. You can join friends in exploring a theme park that’s naturally full of jump scares. But digging deeper uncovers mysteries about Judy. Judy went missing, and you’re trying to find out what happened and where they ended up. I won’t go into spoilers so that you can experience the horror yourself. But I will say that the ending section was far from what I expected.

Submarine Simulator

Submarine Simulator doesn’t sound like a horror title, but it quickly takes a turn from cute minigames to the horrifying. You’re stuck on a submarine, which adds an uncomfortable element of claustrophobia. Because of this setup, you’re defenseless against anything that might be haunting the bottom of the ocean. As you might expect, you’re not the only one in the Mariana Trench. To make things scarier, you have limited power and oxygen to work with to both survive and complete tasks like collecting samples. If you like horror and Five Nights at Freddy’s (FNAF) style mechanics, you have to try Submarine Simulator.

Forgotten Memories

A labor of love fan game based on FNAF, Forgotten Memories is a free roam horror experience that combines a lot of FNAF’s best features. It’s most similar to the first FNAF, and you get the chance to explore the whole location. However, the animatronics are after you and you need to hide while keeping track of where each enemy is and how they threaten you. Jump scares galore, you’ll find yourself scared as stressed as you manage everything this experience throws at you.

Recovery

Playing with up to three friends, Recovery is a maze of mine shafts. You’re sent in to search for missing workers after the most recent workplace accident. However, it seems like there’s a creature in the mines that might be behind the increase in accidents lately. The setting leaves you dizzy and wandering in circles as you try to avoid the monster. Even when you’re safe, the nature of the mine shafts leaves you feeling trapped while you work to progress to new levels. Like most of these games, playing solo is the most terrifying way to experience it. But having friends with you doesn’t exactly take the horror away.

That completes our list of Top 10 best scary Roblox horror games to play in 2023. There’s so many to choose from that we worked to have a variety of styles so that any type of player can find a potential experience they’ll enjoy.
