Mortal Kombat 12 Teaser Sneaks Into NetherRealm Thank You Video

The first teaser for Mortal Kombat 12 has arrived and while short, it's sure to generate plenty of speculation.

After months of speculation and anticipation, it appears the first Mortal Kombat 12 teaser has been released. It’s not much to go on, but that doesn’t mean we MK fans aren’t excited to get something amongst all the Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6 news.

The MK12 teaser comes at the 1:54 mark in a recent “Thank You” video from the NetherRealm team, celebrating 30 years of Mortal Kombat. While it could have something to do with Kronika, I won’t speculate too much, considering how short the tease actually is. You can see it for yourself below:

We know it’s a teaser, too, because MK series Co-Creator Ed Boon tweeted that the Thank You video contained “a (not so subtle tease) of what’s coming.” With all of the scuttlebutt around MK12 recently, it’s not a giant leap to puzzle out what Boon and the team are referring to.

And for now, that’s all we know about the MK12 teaser. Indeed, we don’t know too much about the next installment to the storied fighting game franchise at all. The only truly “official” news we’ve received is that Mortal Kombat 12 is in active development and may potentially release sometime in 2023.

That was revealed in February 2023 by way of an earnings call from Warner Bros. Discovery, where CEO David Zaslav said the following:

And there’s lots more to come, including the highly-anticipated Mortal Kombat 12 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, games also set for release this year with amibitious launch projections.

Of course, rumors and speculation about the Mortal Kombat 12 release abound, and fans are sure to dissect this short teaser clip ad nauseam until more information is released. I know the GameSkinny team is at this very moment in our team Slack!

But for now, that’s what we know about MK12 teaser trailer. Stay tuned for more as we learn it. We’ll be waiting with anticipation.
