Generation Zero is the latest survival shooter from Avalanche Studios, the developer of the famous Just Cause series. It combines elements of post-apocalyptic survival with battle royale shootouts and some robot action along the way.

There are 13 types of weapons in the game, two of which are pistols you can find easily at the beginning of the game. If you also want to find the rest of the weapons in the game but can't figure out where to look, then follow our guide below for all weapons locations in Generation Zero.

Generation Zero Takes Players To Alternate 1980s Sweden Filled With Hostile Robots https://www.gameskinny.com/qihvb/generation-zero-takes-players-to-alternate-1980s-sweden-filled-with-hostile-robots https://www.gameskinny.com/qihvb/generation-zero-takes-players-to-alternate-1980s-sweden-filled-with-hostile-robots Tue, 19 Mar 2019 09:49:58 -0400 QuintLyn

Yesterday, THQ Nordic shared the release trailer for its upcoming open-world FPS set in 1980s Sweden. Generation Zero takes players to an alternate version of the Scandinavian country where hostile machines roam the countryside. The game was one of our most-anticipated games of the year.

In Generation Zero, players will defend themselves against these massive robots while [sic] unravelling the mystery of what is really going on."

This game isn't just a run-and-gun, however. In order to survive, players will use various tactics to lure, cripple, or destroy enemies. There's also player choice: take enemies on solo, or coordinate with up to three other players to complete objectives. Those electing to play in co-op will be able to compliment each others skills in combat by "support downed friends ... [to] share the loot after an enemy is defeated."

NPC enemies in Generation Zero are persistent, meaning that when a player destroys enemy armor, weapons, or other gear, that damage remains even if the enemy escapes. The next time a player runs across that particular foe, it will still be suffering from that same initial damage.

The interesting thing about this sort of mechanic is that it gives players the option to leave an enemy alive and come back for it when they're better prepared, rather than having to beat an enemy down all in one go.

On the more techy side of things, players may find it interesting that the game is rendered with the Apex engine, which was created by Avalanche Studios and used in games such as Just Cause 4 and Rage 2. This allows Generation Zero to have a dynamic day/night cycle, unpredictable weather, and, theoretically, complex AI behavior.

And, for the 80s fans among us, particularly where music in involved, Generation Zero features a full 1980s soundtrack. Queue the New Wave now.

Generation Zero is set to release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows on March 26. To learn more about the game ahead of launch, be sure to head over to the game's website

This coming year, there's an FPS to fit almost every playstyle, every niche, and every sensibility, so long as you like big open worlds. Some are breaking new ground, some finding new ways to tell old stories, and some are just new.

Cyberpunk 2077

\n
    \n
  • Developer: CD Projekt, CD Projekt RED
  • \n
  • Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC
  • \n
  • Release Date: TBA
  • \n
\n

CD Projekt Red has always gone the extra mile, and from everything we've seen about Cyberpunk 2077, they've pushed their limits even further.

\n

What have they shown so far?

\n
    \n
  1. A vast, interconnected world where almost every choice, no matter small, echoes outwards

  2. \n
  3. Fully explorable... everything

  4. \n
  5. More customization than you can shake an augmented bioweapon at

  6. \n
  7. CD Projekt Red's strong storytelling

  8. \n
  9. The creator of the series itself on board as a design consultant
  10. \n
  11. What appears to be solid shooting and first-person movement mechanics

  12. \n
  13. A hundred other little details
  14. \n
\n

Most importantly is a lack of a firm release date. A game this big should only release when everyone on the team is satisfied. Deadlines will only get in the way.

DOOM Eternal

\n
    \n
  • Developer: id Software
  • \n
  • Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC
  • \n
  • Release Date: TBA 2019
  • \n
\n

The Doom Slayer returns from exile. He's angrier, equipped with grappling hooks and arm blades, and wants nothing more than to tear Hell a new one.

\n

Mobility and gameplay variety seem to be id's modus operandi once again, and now players can dash about the maps. It might not look like much on paper, but if you've played the recent Shadow Warrior titles, you know how a simple, quick boost of speed can change an entire gameplay loop.

\n

That, and it looks like Doom Slayer has a host of new ways to make his enemies explode into gibs, with tons of new uses for his various weapon abilities.

\n

If they can get the Super Shotgun right again (which would be shocking if they didn't) and pair that level of satisfaction with more Mick Gordon metal, there's no way this won't be one of the most rewarding, cathartic shooters since... well, DOOM 2016.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood

\n
    \n
  • Developer: MachineGames
  • \n
  • Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC
  • \n
  • Release Date: TBA 2019
  • \n
\n

Though New Colossus disappointed some, Youngblood appears to be taking the series in another new direction, both in terms of narrative and gameplay. While we don't know much about the game save for what's in the trailers, we do know it's going to have co-op elements to make use of the two main characters: the Blazkowicz sisters.

\n

There will still be plenty of Nazis to shoot, and with MachineGames at the helm, the gunplay will likely be as tight and frantic as we've come to expect. How the series will fare without one of the first identifiable FPS protagonists at the trigger remains to be seen, but if the developers can recapture the magic of the first Wolfenstein reboot with a new cast of characters, this entry will be something to see.

Metro: Exodus

\n
    \n
  • Developer: 4A Games
  • \n
  • Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC
  • \n
  • Release Date: February 22, 2019
  • \n
\n

The long-awaited return to post-apocalyptic Russia is almost upon us.

\n

Unlike the previous games (sans Halo), the Metro series is defined not by its vastness but its focus. Not its gunplay but its story. Both Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light were purely linear experiences. There were open areas to explore, but both games were dedicated to their narrative.

\n

Metro: Exodus is the franchise's first foray into the open world, but things are shaping up to still be story focused. One of the main complaints — or selling points — of previous entries was the scripted story sections that gave us short walking simulators before that genre even existed.

\n

In any event, the environment is full-on snow level and there look to be plenty of rusty nooks and crannies to explore. That's half the point of a post-apocalypse: find the hidey-holes filled with ancient secrets.

Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass

\n
    \n
  • Developer: Croteam
  • \n
  • Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC
  • \n
  • Release Date: TBA
  • \n
\n

Always a welcome return to a simpler FPS era, the Serious Sam series is an unapologetic rush of testosterone, almost endless enemies, and even more endless bullets.

\n

The developers were quite clear on one matter, however: Planet Badass is not an open-world game, but a linear experience of large, linked levels. Big enough, apparently, for Sam to need vehicles this time. That opens up tons of different options for play the series hasn't seen before, and an opportunity for the game to throw an as-yet-unheard-of number of enemies at the player.

\n

When describing the gameplay, the developers also emphasize that it's still the same fast, always-on-your-feet style the series is known for.

\n

Also, it's being published by Devolver Digital, so almost all bets are off as to what the game will be getting away with.

RAGE 2

\n
    \n
  • Developer: id Software, Avalanche Studios
  • \n
  • Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC
  • \n
  • Release Date: June 2019
  • \n
\n

What was once an ambitious but ultimately lackluster showcase of the id Tech 5 engine has blossomed into an apparently huge open world FPS with influences from Sunset Overdrive and Just Cause

\n

Gameplay is typical id fare: fast, frenetic, and immensely satisfying. Add in some melee and throwable mechanics, plenty of crazy vehicles and even crazier weapons and enemies and, by all appearances, there's real potential to right the Rage ship. At the very least there's more color, and while I doubt the story will make much sense or have significant depth, that's not really the point.

\n

If Rage 2 delivers on the fun factor, I doubt anyone will care.

Generation Zero

\n
    \n
  • Developer: Avalanche Studios
  • \n
  • Platform: PC
  • \n
  • Release Date: TBA 2019
  • \n
\n

Avalanche is all about their gigantic open worlds, but they've never attempted a game like Generation Zero before. A mix of survival, stealth, FPS, and crafting, there's a kind of Horizon: Zero Dawn feel if the main character was a normal person and the machines were more post-grunge and less science-fantasy.

\n

Everything about the game screams "deadly," and the developers emphasize that guerilla warfare and smart co-operative play are better options than head-up fights. Their dedication to a persistent game world is also intriguing, as every enemy will remember the damage you've done to it and will thus be weaker the next time you decide to face it. That hints at a very hit-and-run style gameplay loop.

\n

Add in weapon crafting and plenty of customization options and Generation Zero looks like it will break a few new barriers, or at least be a fun, tense romp on a gigantic map filled with deadly machines.

Halo Infinite

\n
    \n
  • Developer: 343 Industries
  • \n
  • Platforms: Xbox One, PC
  • \n
  • Release Date: TBA
  • \n
\n

We're starting off big, so let's set the ground rules: there aren't any. We don't know when Halo Infinite is coming out, but we can hold out hope, right?

\n

Almost every game on this list is a massive open-world game, and Halo Infinite is no exception. It's been built with a new engine 343 constructed specifically for Halo Infinite because they couldn't make the game without it. We don't know much more about the game than what's shown in the trailer, but we probably expect a solid — and beefy — single-player campaign with plenty of Chief being a badass.

\n

One thing we can be sure of is another return to classic Halo multiplayer, though there will probably be some 343-style modifications and evolutions to the formula. There won't be a battle royale mode, but the battle rifle isn't going anywhere. 343 learned their lesson after Bungie's Halo Reachnever take away the battle rifle.

\n

And finally, after 14+ years, PC is getting the full Halo treatment rather than being stuck with a stripped-down version that lacks a proper single-player campaign or robust multiplayer support.

WiLD

\n
    \n
  • Developer: Wild Sheep Studio
  • \n
  • Platforms: PS4/PS5
  • \n
  • Release date: 2019/2020
  • \n
\n

WiLD has been in development since 2014, and there are rumors that it will appear as a PS5 exclusive at the launch of the new Sony console. For now, it is unknown when exactly Sony will release their new toy.

\n

WiLD is probably one of the most ambitious survival games ever. The game will have an endless procedurally-generated open world, where players will take on a role of a pre-historic human, who tries to survive with the help of small and big wild animals, which can be controlled using special shamanic abilities.

\n

This sounds really cool, but it would be great if there was any indication of the release date. For now, you can join the development team at the official game's website.

Generation Zero

\n
    \n
  • Developer: Avalanche Studios
  • \n
  • Platforms: PC
  • \n
  • Release date: TBA 2019
  • \n
\n

Killing robots is really fun in Generation Zero -- an action-packed cooperative shooter for four players. The game starts with players arriving at a Swedish tourist attraction in the late 1980s, where there is no one left alive.

\n

Mysterious machines emerge from nowhere and start attacking every living being, including you and your friends. The game offers an unusual approach to story-telling and survival, where players will have to figure everything out on their own.

\n

The most interesting aspect of the game is that enemy machines retain all the damage dealt to them by the players. This creates an illusion of realism like no other game on the market right now.

Pandemic Express

    \n
  • Developer: TallBoys
  • \n
  • Platforms: PC

  • Release date: TBA 2019

\n

Here is an interesting take on a zombie survival cooperative shooter. Pandemic Express focuses mainly on trains as your means to escape from those pesky zombies.

\n

The gameplay footage looks fun, and shows bits of what players can expect from this quirky shooter. The gameplan involves players to catch the train that will help them leave the zombie-infested location.

\n

But there is one problem, apparently there are more zombies on the train that will keep attacking you. So by the look of it, surviving will be really hard in Pandemic Express.

Vigor will be a free-to-play game, which should attract not only fans of DayZ, but also the rest of the survival community. Too bad the game is exclusive to the Xbox One console, but since it is based on Unreal Engine it should appear at least on PC as well.

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey

\n
    \n
  • Developer: Panache Digital Games
  • \n
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One
  • \n
  • Release date: TBA 2019
  • \n
\n

Ancestors is all about human evolution and the early stages of human history. The story begins in Africa 10 million years ago. Initially, the developer planned to break the game into several short episodes each devoted to different time periods. However, later the decision was made to make all time periods accessible to players from the very beginning.

\n

This is the first game of Panache Digital studio, but at the helm of it stands Patrice Désilets, the creative director behind many Assassin's Creed games. This means that we can at least expect gorgeous landscapes and fun gameplay.

\n

Unfortunately, there isn't much info on the game yet, but the first playable server should be open to public some time next year.

Deadside

\n
    \n
  • Developer: Bad Pixel
  • \n
  • Platforms: PC
  • \n
  • Release date: TBA 2019
  • \n
\n

Here is a realistic survival shooter for those who are tired of killing zombies in their games. Instead of zombies players will hunt animals and focus on survival on the map as large as 225 square kilometers.

\n

The developer promises highly realistic combat and physics of all weapons. For example, bullets will lose speed and change trajectory when penetrating various obstacles. This will make combat especially difficult, which will require players to pay attention to every single detail.

\n

Players will be able to meet NPCs and trade goods with them. There will also be a possibility of killing strangers and looting.

\n

Deadside is expected to enter Early Access at Steam some time in 2019.

Dead Matter

\n
    \n
  • Developer: Quantum Integrity Software Inc.
  • \n
  • Platforms: PC
  • \n
  • Release date: Q1 2019
  • \n
\n

Dead Matter is one of the most anticipated survival games in the works that can be supported by the community through an IndieGoGo campaign. The developer decided to make the game as realistic as possible and that is why you will not see any perks or skill tree system in the game.

\n

The open world will be really huge and cover the territory of 400 square kilometers. The map will be populated by zombies, and one server will be able to handle between 60 to 80 players at once.

\n

Players will be able to unite into different factions with quite intriguing names, such as First Responders, Cannibals, Soldiers, Neighborhood Watch and others. So this really looks like it's going to be a big game as soon as it releases.

  • Developer: Saber Interactive
  • \n
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One
  • \n
  • Release date: TBA 2019
