Ever since the PlayStation 2 and the original Xbox were released back in 2000 and 2001 respectively, Sony and Microsoft have been at odds, each battle ending with a clear winner crowned. This new era of the 'Console Wars' has been intense and ongoing since these two consoles have been released.

The PS2 destroyed the original Xbox in sales. The PS2 ended up selling over 150 million units compared to the Xbox which only sold over 24 million units. Because of this, Sony had their head held high when they released the PlayStation 3 in 2006.

Microsoft beat Sony to market when they released the Xbox 360 a year earlier than the PlayStation 3. Even though Xbox had a head start, the PS3 had a bumpy beginning after starting their console prices at $499 and $599 compared to the Xbox 360 which was priced at $299 and $399. The price disparity allowed the Xbox take a huge lead in sales, which lead to Microsoft winning this round of the console wars.

This leads us to the current generation: the PlayStation 4 against the Xbox One. Microsoft knew they had the video game aspect of the console in the bag, so they decided to focus on the entertainment side of their new console. Sony knew they had to take back the power, and decided to focus mainly on games and console power, which they did.

PlayStation has easily won this generation due to its exclusive titles as well as confusion over whether or not the Xbox One was meant to be a gaming console or a home media center. We all know that Microsoft have struggled to get the high quality exclusives for Xbox that Sony boasts for its PS consoles. Studios have released many blockbuster games exclusively for the PS4 such as Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn, Bloodborne and many more on the way. The Xbox One exclusives include games like like Halo 5, Gears of War 4, Sunset Overdrive, Forza, but not much else.

The PlayStation 4 has already been named the winner of this console generation, with the PS4 sales at 63.3 million against the Xbox One, which has sold 26 million consoles as of the beginning of 2017.

Microsoft have not lived up to their own hype

With the release of the Xbox One X later this year, Microsoft is going after the hardcore players that want the best in graphics and performance without having to buy or build an expensive gaming PC. While there are plenty of games lined up to get the 4K patch to make the experience better on this new console, there isn't much else to play if you want something new.

In Microsoft's 2017 E3 conference, Forza 7 and Crackdown 3 were the main exclusive games that used the power of Xbox One X. Forza 7 looked amazing, as expected, but Crackdown 3 didn't look too good. Many fans complained that the graphics didn't live up to expectations. If the consumer is supposed to spend $500 on the 'most powerful console ever made' the graphics should be very realistic.

Microsoft have been suffering from a serious lack of quality Xbox exclusive titles. Besides Forza and Crackdown 3, the only other 'exclusives' were indie titles like Cuphead or PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. Where are the fresh IPs? Where is the next Halo? Where is a brand new game that is going to bring gamers back to the console people want to play?

What can Microsoft do to bring gamers back to the Xbox franchise?

Backwards Compatibility and Xbox Game Pass are great additions to the console and many gamers spend a lot of time on both of these features. However, I don't want to buy a console just to play old games.

If Xbox wants to bring gamers back to their platform, they need to show more quality games. Yes, people are excited for PC games to be ported to their Xbox One, but that isn't enough. They need to bring fresh IPs to the console. Whether they debut on the Xbox One X or the next console, they need to focus on bringing exciting and high quality titles to their gamers.

I'd love to see a remaster of Banjo Kazooie for the Xbox One X. With the Crash Bandicoot N'Sane Trilogy selling as well as it is and Sonic Mania getting great reviews, it's clear that people want to see the return of these collect-a-thon games. They could either do a remastered version of all the games like Crash Bandicoot, or make a brand new one. We've recently seen that this style of game is in demand.

The Xbox franchise isn't dead... but it needs work

People want to play games on the Xbox One, but if there are no new games, the Xbox will collect dust. Releasing a beefed up Xbox One is a great idea, but how much replayability is in a 3 year old game that's just repackaged with better graphics?

Phil Spencer and the Xbox team at Microsoft need to step it up and prove to both the loyal Xbox fans and gamers everywhere that the Xbox One and Xbox One X are the best consoles to play the best games. If they are unable to do that, they will always be in second place behind PlayStation.

Halo is celebrating summer all season long with new content, merchandise, and exciting announcements. Here’s a quick taste of what the franchise has lined up this season.

Halo 5

With the growing excitement for the upcoming Xbox One X release and the promise of true 4K gaming, many were quick to note that Halo 5 was absent from the game list that would be receiving the 4K treatment. But fear not, 343 has officially confirmed that Halo 5 will be coming to the Xbox One X in full 4K glory.

More Backwards Compatibility

Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo 4, and Halo: CE Anniversary will become available for the Xbox One backwards compatibility program. This includes the campaign, multiplayer, and LAN play support. On top of that, every Xbox 360 add-on map pack will be made available for free from the Xbox store. And if you already own the games from before, there will be no need to rebuy them -- just pop in the original disc and jump right in.

Halo Wars 2

Halo Wars 2 has received several updates, balance tweaks, and add-on contents since it’s release back in February. So far, Season Pass holders have received four months of new updates, with more to come in July and August.

Once August has come and gone and the Season Pass has ended, Halo Wars 2 fan will have the new premium expansion to look forward to. “Awakening the Nightmare,” will include a new campaign from the perspective of The Banished,  the return of an ancient, deadly foe in the Flood, a brand-new multiplayer mode, and two new Banished Leaders.

Hitting the Road

Halo and the 343 team will be several events this summer, mingling and celebrating the Halo with the community. Here’s a list of the events they’ll be attending:

  • RTX Austin 2017: July 7-9
  • HCS Summer Finals @ Dreamhack Atlanta: July 21st
  • China Joy: July 27-30
  • Gamescom: August 22-26

Legendary Halo Gear

More LootCrates!

The Halo Legendary Crate is back after the success of the first wave of excellent content. The Series 2 creates are available for purchase now and slated to bring even more exclusive Halo gear and content. Secure your ownat the LootCrate website.

Mattel Action Figures

The second series of 6” Halo action figures from Mattel has launched. This set includes Arbiter Thel ‘Vadam, Spartan Buck, Jerome-092, Atriox, and the Imperial Grunt.

Expanded Universe

Halo: Rise of Atriox

In partnership with Dark Horse, fans will get a closer look into Atriox’s past, and the rise of his legacy. Fans got a glimpse of this history during Isabel’s initial intelligence report on the UNSC Spirit of Fire. Those events and more will be told through this brand-new comic anthology series.

Halo: Retribution

August 29th will bring a new book, written by Troy Denning. The description for this novel reads as follows:

December 2553. Less than a year after the end of the Covenant War, a string of violent incidents continues to threaten the tenuous peace in human-held space, culminating in the assassination of UNSC fleet admiral Graselyn Tuwa and the abduction of her family. It is a provocation so outrageous that the Office of Naval Intelligence must retaliate swiftly and ferociously—but only after its operatives identify her killer and rescue the hostages.

This mission will be the first for homicide-detective-turned-ONI-operative Veta Lopis and her young team of Spartan-IIIs, and something feels wrong from the start. The obvious suspect is an infamous Brute who leads the Keepers of the One Freedom, an ex-Covenant splinter group in fierce opposition to the UNSC. But Lopis and her team soon realize that the truth is much more insidious than they could ever have imagined, and with Fred-104, Kelly-087, and Linda-058 of Blue Team for combat support, they must stop a plan hatched in the bowels of the secret research station Argent Moon—a plan so sinister it could destroy all those still reeling from thirty years of intergalactic conflict…

Even More for Halo 5

Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Halo 3

It's the 10th anniversary of Halo 3 and to celebrate this milestone, the 343 team is planning a special Halo 3 Anniversary Throwback playlist for Halo 5. This new matchmaking offers a selection of community-made Halo 3 maps created with Forge in Halo 5 and will feature “classic” gameplay settings. There will also be a commemorative live stream that will offer fun times and giveaways.

The Halo 5 team will be cooking up all manners of fun things for fans, from Multi-Team to Double XP, and the return of fan favorites like Ranked Snipers and more.

We're less than two weeks away from Halo Championship Series Daytona on May 12-14, and HCS has officially released the final settings for the Summer 2017 Championship. After a heated battle at Worlds back in March, many Halo eSports fans are excited to see what this season holds. It's always interesting to see the new changes in settings from season to season, and we're all looking forward to seeing how this changes the game for our favorite players.

Summer 2017 Kicks off at HCS Daytona

HCS Daytona marks the start of the Summer 2017 season for HCS, where teams will compete for an opportunity to win $75,000 in open 4v4.

In case you missed it, these are the seven teams slated to compete in HSC Summer this year:

  • OpTic Gaming
  • Team EnVyUs
  • Team Liquid
  • Str8 Rippin
  • Luminosity Gaming
  • TMMT Crowd Pleasers
  • Evil Geniuses

The last team will be decided at the NA Last Chance Qualifier in light of Team Allegiance disbanding and losing their spot.

One notable change is the reduction of ammo in the Railgun on Rig by one clip. Many players have wondered if its level of devastation caused an unfair advantage. Apparently, the people at Halo thought so. And while this may not cause a huge change in the type of plays we see on Rig, it will undoubtedly reduce the weapon's power. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out at HCS Daytona.

ESL and 343 Industries has announced that the Halo Championship Series: Pro League is returning for its summer 2017 season starting May 24. Teams will have the opportunity to collect over $150,000 in prize money throughout the course of the season. ESL also announced that they will be crowd funding extra prize money to be added to the prize pool at season finals at DreamHack Atlanta in July.

The announcement from ESL also revealed the lineup of teams for the North American Pro League:

  • OpTic Gaming
  • Team EnVyUs
  • Team Liquid
  • Str8 Rippin
  • Luminosity Gaming
  • TMMT Crowd Pleasers
  • Evil Geniuses

In a surprising turn of events, the eighth seeded team, Allegiance, disbanded and lost their spot this season. In the wake of these events, the final team set to compete this season will be decided at the NA Last Chance Qualifier.

The top six NA teams will compete at Finals at DreamHack Atlanta at the end of the season. With OpTic returning to the HCS Pro League as the 2017 World Champions, it'll be interesting to see how the season plays out!

9 Funny Halo Glitches You Can't Help But Laugh At https://www.gameskinny.com/zlxjn/9-funny-halo-glitches-you-cant-help-but-laugh-at https://www.gameskinny.com/zlxjn/9-funny-halo-glitches-you-cant-help-but-laugh-at Sat, 15 Apr 2017 15:02:07 -0400 tofuslayer

Dancing Elites

I'm not sure that this is the classic dancing Elite glitch, but this clip from Halo 5 is too good not to share. This is another one that puzzles me. I can't really explain what's happening here and I don't think I can dismiss this one as a lag issue. Whatever the cause of this glitch is, I think it's fantastic. I also laughed harder than I should have when he got stomped out at the end of the clip.

And with that, I conclude my list of 9 Halo glitches that you can't help but laugh at. Some are scarier than others, but at the end of the day, they're all pretty hilarious, no matter who they happen to.

Know of any even funnier Halo glitches? Let us know about them in the comments below!

Undead Scarab

This is another one that is half-terrifying and half-funny to me. On the one hand, there's something about seeing a blown-up Scarab come back to life that is somewhat nightmarish. But on the other hand, seeing one hobbling around on two legs is laugh-inducing in a weird kind of way. (It counts as a laugh if you're laughing out of disbelief, right?)

Anyway, if you play Halo 3 and want to experience this glitch for yourself, check out this tutorial below. If you just want to see footage of the Undead Scarab in action, skip to 4:34 and decide for yourself if it's funny or scary.

As seen in this image from Nostromo II on Bungie, this unfortunate glitch in Halo 3 caused unsuspecting players to be sucked right into the floor and die a twitchy, painful-looking death with no warning at all. I'm not entirely sure what causes this to happen, but I'm assuming it's the result of lagging. There's a part of me that doesn't want to laugh because it's kind of terrifying, but there's also something about it that's really funny.

Wall Hacking

Also called "Ghost hacking," but I suppose that in this case, it might be more appropriate to call it "Phantom hacking." Basically what happens here is that if you're moving fast enough, you can go through walls because the game will not register the wall in time.

This case is exceptionally strange to me because it is my understanding that once you pass through the wall, you die. In a strange turn of events, it looks like this driver somehow managed to go right through the wall and off the map.

Corpse Glitch

Glitches with corpses are one of the more common ones in most of the Halo games. Most of us have seen videos of breakdancing corpse in Halo. This one is another Halo: Reach beta glitch where the corpse inexplicably starts waving just his arm. While some of the other corpse glitches are kind of creepy with all the spasms, this one is oddly friendly, as if the corpse is waving at you ... welcoming you to Hell ...

Character Stretch Glitch

One of my personal favorites is a fairly common glitch that occurs in almost all the Halo games -- the character stretch glitch. It's so common we could make a list by itself of all the best character stretch images on the internet.

While there are definitely some more extreme instances of this glitch (such as the first image of this slideshow), there's something about this screenshot from Cheese Chex on Bungie that I find so hilarious. This Spartan looks like some weird, disfigured bird ... or something.

Weaponless Glitch

This glitch occurs in almost all the Halo games, usually as a result of overloading the map with too many objects. This specific image comes from an individual who was wielding a hammer in Forge World for Halo: Reach. Then he went weaponless.

While it is one of the more common glitches, I’ll never stop thinking it’s funny seeing someone holding a phantom weapon. There's something about a weaponless Spartan that just looks ridiculous. These guys were meant to be soldiers.

Banshee Glitch

Banshees have been known to do what they want at times, resulting in a lot of Banshee glitches in the Halo series. I'm not exactly sure what caused this one, but, like many of the glitches in Halo, I'm going to chalk this one up to some sort of lag. Somehow I feel like there's something oddly soothing about giggling at a Banshee floating around like a broken bumper car.

Armor Permutation Glitch

In the Halo Reach beta, some users reported severe armor lag that caused armor permutations to change. These instances usually occurred upon death, but in rare cases, it happened to players while alive. This perfectly timed screenshot, courtesy of Halo Wikia, features an individual who looks horrified at what is happening. Or maybe just embarrassed about their pauldron being on the wrong side.

Over the years, the Halo games have brought joy to so many lives all over the world. We all know it, and I would argue that most of us love it. As far as first-person shooters go, it's definitely one of the best and most widely played.

And although most of us play Halo for its competitive nature, another highly entertaining aspect of the game is the occasional glitch you'll run into. While they can be really annoying when you're in the middle of a campaign or a game of CTF, they can be extremely funny when it's not happening to you -- and sometimes they're even so hilarious it doesn't matter who they happen to.

So to celebrate Halo franchise as a whole (and for me, the upcoming ESL Halo Pro League summer season!), here's a compilation of some great glitches throughout Halo history.

OpTic Gaming Wins $1,000,000 and Undisputed Halo Supremacy After the World Championship Finals 2017 https://www.gameskinny.com/ev48t/optic-gaming-wins-1000000-and-undisputed-halo-supremacy-after-the-world-championship-finals-2017 https://www.gameskinny.com/ev48t/optic-gaming-wins-1000000-and-undisputed-halo-supremacy-after-the-world-championship-finals-2017 Wed, 29 Mar 2017 10:43:19 -0400 tofuslayer

All around the world, Halo teams fought through the qualifiers for a chance to be part of the ESL Halo World Championship 2017 Finals. The 12 teams who made the cut met at the ESL campus in Burbank, California, for three days of intense competition. The aim? To find out who would emerge with $1,000,000 and the title of Halo World Champions.

All 12 Teams Come Out Strong for Day 1 of Finals

In the first day of competition at Finals, teams fought for seeding points heading into the double elimination bracket. Though no one would be eliminated, Day 1 was a chance for each team to start the weekend strong and set the tone for the rest of Finals. As many predicted, the North American teams dominated the rest of the world to kick off an exciting first day, with OpTic Gaming and Team Liquid leading the pack in the winners bracket.

Str8 Rippin vs. TMMT Crowd Pleasers

In an incredible end to Day 1, Str8 Rippin and TMMT Crowd Pleasers met in the final losers bracket match of the day in a heated Best of 7 series. Str8 won the first three games of the series, taking the third win in CTF after APG landed a ground pound with less than 10 seconds left on the clock.

CP retaliated with three straight wins in an attempt to execute a reverse sweep and signaled a choke after the third win. The crowd was going wild heading into Game 7, and the room completely divided. With the series tied 3-3, Str8 managed to stave off CP and take the final win of the series on Regret Slayer and move on to the winners bracket.

Str8 Rippin wins 4-3.

Everything Heats Up for the Second Day of Finals

At the end of Day 2, only four teams would move on to the final day of competition. Despite an impressive performance from Fab Games esports, the last European team went home midday.

EnVy vs. Luminosity Gaming

After taking a harsh loss to Splyce that landed them in the losers bracket, EnVy began an incredible winning streak all through Day 2. Everyone on the EnVy roster was playing at a high level, making great call-outs and executing clutch plays as they unapologetically eliminated team after team. In their last series of the day, EnVy continued their reign of terror against Luminosity Gaming.

It was in this series where Huke had what was arguably the greatest play of the whole championship. He flawlessly executed a vicious Killing Frenzy with the Needler in Game 2 on Rig Slayer, before Snip3down took a carefully aimed headshot to secure their second win of what ultimately became a 4-0 sweep to send Luminosity home.

EnVy wins 4-0.

Team Liquid vs. OpTic Gaming

The last series of the day was between Team Liquid and OpTic Gaming. Liquid, even after coming out of NA Qualifiers in second place, was considered an underdog heading into Finals. The months-old roster, who had never won a tournament together, were proving their doubters wrong with every winners bracket match they won. In the final winners bracket of the match, they faced OpTic to enter the final winners bracket match of Day 3.

OpTic were dominant heading into the series against Liquid by winning their first three games. They were looking to continue their winning streak in Game 3 on Truth CTF. Liquid fought hard and won their first game of the series with a clutch ground pound from Rayne to bring the score to 3-1.

However, the last effort push was not enough to stop OpTic from more than doubling Liquid’s points on Empire Strongholds, ultimately to end Game 4 with a score of 100-44 -- to secure their spot in the Grand Finals match.

OpTic Gaming wins 4-1.

By the end of Day 2, OpTic Gaming, Team Liquid, Team EnVy, and Str8 Rippin would be the last four teams to see Day 3 of Finals.

OpTic Looks to Take it All in Day 3

Day three of the ESL Halo World Championship Finals 2017 was arguably the wildest day of the tournament. Let's take a quick look at some of the highlights.

EnVy vs. Str8 Rippin

EnVy and Str8 met in first the losers bracket matchup of Day 3. EnVy had battled through the losers bracket and was on a 12-game winning streak going into their series against Str8, who had come back from a 4-0 loss against Liquid to eliminate Splyce from the tournament. If Str8 won the series against EnVy, they would be able to get their revenge on Liquid in the final losers bracket match of Finals. However, EnVy was not about to let that happen.

Maintaining their momentum from Day 2, EnVy won two close games against Str8 before securing an amazing 100-36 win to bring the series to 3-0. Str8 looked like they might come back when they capped their first two flags within the first minutes of Game 4 on Truth CTF, but EnVy came back after Huke and Mikwen both got Overkills and capped three flags in a row to eliminate Str8 and move onto the second losers bracket match.

EnVy wins 4-0.

EnVy vs. OpTic Gaming

Despite Liquid ending their winning streak, EnVy looked to continue their aggressive offensive campaign against the 2016 World Champions. However, OpTic was not about to let the EnVy take the win so easily. Tensions ran high, both sides were on vicious killing streaks as they both attempted to break a 2-2 tie in Game 1 on Coliseum CTF before the game went into overtime. Frosty capped the flag for OpTic in the first minute of OT to take the first win of the series. In Game 2 on Plaza Slayer, OpTic took a slim lead in the last two minutes to secure their second win in a row against the Fall 2016 Champions.

After taking two losses in a row against OpTic, EnVy started Game 3 by taking the lead on Rig Strongholds. EnVy had picked up a 48-0 lead before OpTic nearly stopped EnVy in their tracks and took the game 100-63. In CTF in Game 4, OpTic was ready to take the whole series home, capping one flag. But it took all their offensive energy to suppress a full-court press from EnVy. In a fast paced game, OpTic focused everything on keeping EnVy from regrouping as they played every second of the clock, not even realizing they had won until the room exploded with cheers when the last seconds ran off the clock.

OpTic Gaming wins 4-0.

After their amazing journey throughout the Halo World Championship 2017, OpTic Gaming came out yet again as World Champions and proving that they are this year’s greatest Halo team in the world.

Before the champions took their trophy home and got some well-deserved rest, I was able to ask Lethul a few questions in an interview that was originally published on the ESL website

Here's to next year!

After an intense series of qualifiers all over the world, the top 12 Halo teams in the world will meet in Burbank, California at the ESL campus to fight for undisputed Halo supremacy. As well as a share of the $1,000,000 prize pool.

The final lineup for the ESL Halo World Championship Pro League Series is as follows:

North America

  • OpTic Gaming
  • Team EnVyUs
  • Team Liquid
  • Str8 Rippin
  • TMMT Crowd Pleasers (Formerly Pnda Gaming)
  • Luminosity Gaming
  • Splyce

  • Fab Games eSports
  • Supremacy
  • London Conspiracy

  • Team Immunity

Latin America

  • SoaR Gaming (Formerly Shock The World)
Group A: TMMT Crowd Pleasers, Supremacy, OpTic Gaming

Obviously, OpTic Gaming has been looking sharp throughout the qualifiers, after finishing in first at the Las Vegas Qualifiers and is favored by many to place high. However, the rest of Group A shouldn’t be brushed off. Many did not see TMMT finishing in the top 6 for NA, the addition of Danoxide to the roster plus a solid performance in Las Vegas earned them a spot at finals. I’m personally very interested in seeing TMMT’s performance at Finals after watching them play through the Las Vegas Qualifier. Supremacy shouldn’t be counted out just yet either. After adding Solar to their lineup, the French team beat out many favored U.K. teams to qualify for Finals.

Group B: London Conspiracy, Team Liquid, Luminosity Gaming

London Conspiracy returned to the Halo Scene with a vengeance after acquiring the Team Vibe roster. LC was beat out of the EU bracket at the hands of Sy, but after their performance at the EU Last Chance Qualifier, it’ll be interesting to see how they compete against some of the top NA teams, especially in their match against OpTic. In addition, new Liquid roster asserted themselves as a dangerous opponent against OpTic during the qualifiers, and anyone who doubted the new Liquid roster after the St. Louis Qualifiers definitely saw the potency in this new lineup after they secured their second place win at Las Vegas. Finally, like Liquid, LG did not perform their best at St. Louis, but returned to Las Vegas with an aggressive performance that earned them their place at Finals. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what Group B does at Finals.

Group C: Splyce, Team Immunity, Team EnVyUs

Splyce was very close to qualifying for Worlds before Luminosity eliminated them at Las Vegas Qualifiers. They managed to come back and become the final NA team to head to Finals after winning the Last Chance Qualifier by taking out CryptiK in a second BO7. It’ll be exciting to see how the young roster performs against EnVyUs, the Fall 2016 champions, in the first match on the main stream. Pistola of EnVyUs had an absolutely deadly performance at Las Vegas, and I’m personally going to be keeping my eyes on his feed at Finals. The Australian team iM will also have their first match against EnVyUs, and after iM’s total domination at the ANZ Qualifier, I’m anticipating a solid performance from the Australian team against the top ranking NA team.

Group D: SoaR Gaming, FAB Games Esports, Str8 Rippin

SoaR asserted themselves as the top Latin American team at Mexico City Qualifiers, but many are doubting the roster’s ability to stack up against the top EU and NA teams. After SoaR’s performance at the LA Qualifiers, I think they’ll put up a fight against the German team, FabE, in their first match at Finals. FabE also struggling against the notion that EU teams aren’t a competition for the top NA teams in Halo, but after their first place win at London Qualifiers, I see FabE putting on a great show to prove those stereotypes wrong. I’m anticipating a great match between FabE and Str8 after the NA team’s tenacious performance in the NA Qualifiers where Str8 came back from the losers bracket in Las Vegas to make it to Finals.

Halo TV Show Confirmed as "Alive" https://www.gameskinny.com/0hyrz/halo-tv-show-confirmed-as-alive https://www.gameskinny.com/0hyrz/halo-tv-show-confirmed-as-alive Sun, 07 Aug 2016 05:37:35 -0400 H3nleY

While some people may not even be aware that a Halo TV show was in the works, Phil Spencer has confirmed on Twitter that it is still "alive."

The show was announced back in May 2013 as a part of the Xbox One reveal event. No other info was released about it but Spencer did say that it won't be just "filler" and that "I think there's a story in the Halo games that's noteworthy. That's a good thing for Halo, a good thing for the platform, and a good thing for the IP owners."

This follows news from August 2015, when Showtime boss David Nevins confirmed the TV show was in "very active development." Reports also suggested that Neill Blomkamp, the director of District 9, may direct the show.

The Halo TV show was at one time expected to debut in fall 2015 alongside Halo 5: Guardians, but obviously that didn't come to fruition. Many people were afraid that with the shutdown of Xbox Entertainment Studios in 2014, the show would go with it. As we now know, that was not the case.

Halo 5 - A Year on Multiplayer Review https://www.gameskinny.com/540i1/halo-5-a-year-on-multiplayer-review https://www.gameskinny.com/540i1/halo-5-a-year-on-multiplayer-review Sun, 07 Aug 2016 14:17:10 -0400 Draco_8626

The Halo series has been around for a while now. It's competitive, but fun multiplayer has crept itself into many of our gaming hours over the years. Halo 5 released on October 27th, 2015 and it's multiplayer offered the usual game modes such as Capture the Flag, Slayer and Planting bombs. However, it lacked fan favorites such as Griffball, Big Team Slayer, and Zombie modes to name a few. It had half the maps that it currently has now. I soon tired myself out playing the same maps and modes spanning 50+ hours of gameplay. However, developer 343 Industries promised to offer these modes and more maps for one year all free of charge. It totally changed the game for me since. It has got bigger and better just like its predecessors.

Do not take this frantic multiplayer lightly as a casual pickup-and-play game. It will eat away your day without realizing. Halo 5 is no different in this sense.

"At the end of the game, the king and the pawn go into the same box."
- Cortana's first words

Spartan Abilities

General movement aiming down sight and shooting are all there, but it is abundantly clear from the start that the game is different. Halo 5 features Spartan abilities designed to give players enhanced mobility. Abilities such as Ground Pound allow you to pound the ground with extreme force from mid-air, or how about Infinity Sprint? These abilities are available to all players and add different dynamics in the battlefield for this epic multiplayer game.

Over the years the Halo series implemented many customization options. Halo 5’s customization is a step above its predecessors. From a variety of different armor looks to its color choices, it has something for everyone to make your look unique. The new aspect in this iteration of Halo is the ability to change colors of your weapons. You can spend quite a bit of time perfecting your layout before you know it.

Although it is not in-depth compared to games like Fallout 4 and Doom, there is enough here to keep you occupied. And 343 is always expanding upon this with their updates adding to their ever growing list of customization options.

Multiplayer Diversity

Halo 5's multiplayer modes are diverse. It has something for everyone. For those craving fun big team warfare, there is a dedicated playlist featuring the usual big team battle mode and of course its Warzone mode.

Then there is the competitive arena playlist for those planning to climb its addictive leaderboard. I have spent many hours trying to get to Diamond League, and once I reached it there was an inner sense of pride to keep hold of my position and challenge myself to climb higher. The weapons are not only well balanced but laid out strategically on its Arena maps, ensuring the control of these weapons vital as your team progresses towards victory.

Every month, or every season as they call it, the rank resets and you are rewarded based on your final standing. These rewards can be in the form of modded weapons, armor sets to Requisition packs which I will discuss further later in this review.

For anyone craving big frantic battles that combine AI opponents as well as players, it's 12 v 12 Warzone mode will not disappoint. Players battle to reach a certain amount of points to win the match. This is achievable through killing opponent players or killing bosses that spawn around the map. Do not underestimate the AI, however, as they are a formidable foe and can more than hold themselves when surrounded by players.

When they spawn, it’s a frantic battle by both teams trying to get the final blow. That is where I felt the challenge of killing the AI boss to contribute towards your team’s points could exploitable. Imagine your team fending off waves and waves of players and AI alike to kill off the boss. You spend every bullet and muster every able body to focus their skills and firepower onto the boss, only for an opponent sniper to take the last shot and obtain all the points. Immensely frustrating. And yes I have done that many times myself.

The inclusion of Forge where players can create their own maps and challenges for the community still stands strong. The developers carefully select content from the best of these user-created items and include them occasionally in dedicated playlists. Dedicated servers help the online experience further. In my many hours of game time I have rarely found it to be laggy and finding matches takes less than 10 seconds.

Halo 5 uses every ounce of power from the Xbox One system and outputs it in excellent form. The slick design of each item is unique, bold and creative. The multiplayer stages are well designed with every map sporting a distinct look. From the Fiery industrial core of Molten to the icy chasms of Antifreeze the team has been creative with their approach so far.

Smoldering ruins of Molten

Blazing wrath of Antifreeze

Reward packs

REQ packs and Req cards are Halo 5’s reward system achieved through giveaways, playing matches and reaching milestones. It will award all of the cosmetic items as you open packs such as armor variations, character stances and various weapon and vehicle upgrades which can be used in Warzone playlist. It can be bought with real money or earned through game time. Cards have different rarities from uncommon to legendary items.

Halo over the years has grown into a behemoth. Upon its release, there were not many modes or maps which made the game feel a little stale. However, 343's dedication and the promise of one year free DLC have been delivered. With it, the Halo 5 community is growing bigger and stronger. Other games should take note of Halo 5's successful business model. Its current state is a joy to behold with double the maps and game modes alongside customizations and unique weapon upgrades, making this Halo probably the best Halo so far.

Let's Talk: This console gen is the best yet https://www.gameskinny.com/zqgbv/lets-talk-this-console-gen-is-the-best-yet https://www.gameskinny.com/zqgbv/lets-talk-this-console-gen-is-the-best-yet Sun, 14 Aug 2016 12:21:40 -0400 Pierre Fouquet

Let's Talk is a mixed audio and written series about talking -- that much is clear. I talk about specific games, the impact a game can have on the community, about recent events, or how past events have shaped what is now. Read the article first or watch the video -- it's up to you, but without further ado, Let's Talk about:

This console generation being the best console generation

We are now in the 8th generation of consoles, it started when the Wii U was released WAY back towards the end of 2012, with the PS4 and Xbox One releasing towards the end of 2014. Unfortunately for Nintendo, they rushed out the gate almost unprepared, with some marketing which didn't exactly tell you what the thing was. Since then, they have done some interesting things on that little device.

As for Sony and Microsoft, their consoles are coming up to the 2 year old mark, and boy the last 2 years has been full of ups and downs. With Microsoft's lackluster unveiling -- after which Phil Spencer did a good job with turning everything around -- and Sony being very snide and childish about that. Now the waters have settled, and the consoles are each doing very interesting things, the PS4 is doing most of this locally, where the Xbox One is doing cooler things with the Microsoft network.

But what makes this the best console generation yet?

Wii U - Nintendo is 'growing up'

The Wii U was announced to everyone's confusion. "What was it?" This was the biggest question on everyone's lips. This failure in basic marketing lead to the Wii U not selling at first, but after a few years it started picking up. The multi screen system is an awesome idea, which I think even caused Sony to implement it into the Vita and PS3 while later making it more robust in the PS4. With the Wii U it allowed for some really cool usage. It's true, it hasn't been used to real success, but it's Nintendo bringing both the power of the home console with the portability of the handheld.

The best thing Nintendo did this generation was actually bring Bayonetta 2 to the console. This is the biggest step Nintendo has made yet, it shows them growing up. The perceived notion that Nintendo consoles are 'only for kids' is now dashed, Bayonetta is not a kids game, and this is the biggest step Nintendo have made yet. Here's to hoping that the NX will bring the power of just above a high end tablet, and the full portability of a handheld console.

Xbox One - Microsoft has crossed

Unlike Nintendo, Microsoft had a very focused marketing strategy, unfortunately it sparked a lot of controversy. When Phil Spencer took the reins of Head of Xbox, he turned the whole thing around, and built the Xbox One into a great console.

Xbox Play Anywhere, and Cross Play, may not be the biggest selling points for the console itself, but they are great selling points for Microsoft and a massive step forward for the industry. Sony have had the Cross Buy system for some time, but that was within their own ecosystem of consoles (PS3/4, and Vita). Microsoft have done it between the Xbox One and PC, which may finally bring an end to the 'fight' between PC and console players.

One of the other most impressive things Microsoft have done is with their cloud system, while we have yet to see what it can really do with the Crackdown reboot, its proof of concept in Forza Drivatars -- it's still a terrible name -- is very promising. Microsoft have taken their expensive tech background in the business sectors with their cloud systems and have brought that knowledge into the gaming sector, this represents a massive change in how Microsoft views their consoles and gamers as a whole. For that alone, Microsoft have done better than in the previous generations of consoles.

PS4 - "Greatness Awaits" is a terrible slogan

The PS4 hit the ground running. Yes, it's cliché to say, but it's true. Sony hit the ball out the park with it's marketing, no matter how childish some of it was. Greatness does not await the PS4, with games like Bloodborne, and Uncharted 4, it's possibly the least confident slogan I've seen yet. But Sony have also got VR, built for the PlayStation, and that alone means Sony is ahead in the hardware front -- on consoles, PC master race is of course ahead.

Sony have really pulled it out the bag -- I will use the clichés because, why not? -- with the PSN system. While I'm not for charging for an online system, look at Steam and how stable and fast it is for free, if it means that we don't get a repeat of the PS3 PSN then I guess it's acceptable. Sony have really beefed up the system and made it very robust, it's now as fast and stable as Xbox Live.

When it comes to indie games, you simply cannot ignore them anymore. And Sony has done an excellent job accepting indies onto their system, with Microsoft having a rocky start on their ID@Xbox system they have finally started embracing indie games. With some of the best experiences in gaming like Firewatch, Abzu, Superhot, or even Journey (which yes was a port from the PS3) both Sony and Microsoft have done a very good job incorporating indie into their console game lineup. Good job guys!

That is why this generation has kicked arse so far!

I'm not going to kid myself and say there aren't issues, there sure as well are, with dodgy DLC practices, microtransactions in full prices games (dubbed by Jim Sterling as Fee to Pay games), unfinished games being released as fully priced games, and a host of other issues with how large publishers treat their consumers, there is some way to go.  But the online systems, the dedication to supporting indie games, the breadth of experiences between the consoles, and above all the games, this generation started slowly but has finally proven that new can mean better.

Xbox One S is not necessary https://www.gameskinny.com/tcb0n/xbox-one-s-is-not-necessary https://www.gameskinny.com/tcb0n/xbox-one-s-is-not-necessary Tue, 12 Jul 2016 04:40:55 -0400 Joey Marrazzo

I've been an owner of the Xbox One since day one. In fact, I have the Day One edition console with the special controller to prove it. I've been a huge fan of Xbox and Microsoft for a long time, and I always want the newest edition of their Xbox products... except this one. Sure the new Xbox One S looks nice and shiny with its smaller size and 4K abilities, but it is unnecessary if you have the original Xbox One.

4K or not to 4K

To start off, not many people have a 4K television or monitor. Only 10% of homes in the United States will own a 4K television by the end of 2016. This is due to them being rather new in the television market along with an increased price tag compared to other televisions.

Also, Xbox team member Mike Ybarra revealed on Twitter that Xbox One games won't run naturally at 4K, but they will be upscaled to 4K. True 4K games probably won't become the standard until Xbox Scorpio arrives next year. Getting the new Xbox One S in August when it is supposed to release will not be worth it due to the lack of true 4K gaming.

Size Doesn't Matter

It is true that the new Xbox One S is 40% smaller than the original Xbox One. If you already own one, has the size been a big factor to you? My Xbox has traveled with me from New Jersey to Florida and then to Arizona; I've never had a problem finding a spot for it due to its big size. Even with the power supply being built into the console -- for the first time since the Xbox Original -- I won't buy a new Xbox One just for that.

I'm sure you've heard the phrase 'Size doesn't matter.' It works for the Xbox One S too.

Storage is Cheap

The first Xbox One S to hit the store shelves is the 2 terabyte version that will retail for $400. If you started this new generation and went all digital with your games, you know that storage is very important. Here's the thing, you can easily go on Amazon and buy more storage for cheaper than getting a new Xbox One. Just buy the external hard drive and plug it into the Xbox One and you will automatically add that extra storage -- a feature which I have not seen on other consoles.

Now is the time to buy!

If you don't own an Xbox One and you're looking to buy one, buy the original Xbox One. With the new console coming out next month, there are amazing deals on the original Xbox One. For example, the Xbox One Spring Bundle is only $300, and you get:

  • The 1 terabyte console
  • An extra controller
  • Halo 5, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Rare Replay, Ori and the Blind Forest, plus an additional game of your choice.
  • $50 Xbox Store gift card
  • $20 off coupon for Xbox Design Labs to create your own controller

Xbox One is a fantastic console. Since its launch back in November 2013, they have vastly improved the Xbox One with their updates. While the Xbox One S has its benefits, not everyone has the need to upgrade at the moment. If you currently have an Xbox One and it's running great, the only reason you would want the new console is because you want it; and that's fine.

My Xbox One is running great and I have thought about upgrading to the Xbox One S for the upgraded storage but then I found an extra external hard drive and now I don't have the urge to upgrade. If you want to be able to play your favorite Xbox games to the best of their abilities, you are better off waiting until next year to buy the Xbox Scorpio. If you can't wait til next year because you are looking forward to Gears of War 4, then save some money and buy the original Xbox One with one of the great deals going on today.

Halo 5: Guardians Firefight release date revealed, play Halo 5 for free https://www.gameskinny.com/gg991/halo-5-guardians-firefight-release-date-revealed-play-halo-5-for-free https://www.gameskinny.com/gg991/halo-5-guardians-firefight-release-date-revealed-play-halo-5-for-free Fri, 24 Jun 2016 04:49:02 -0400 Joseph Ocasio

For months, the most requested feature to be added into Halo 5: Guardians was the Firefight Co-Op mode -- a mode first introduced in Halo 3: ODST back in 2009. The mode hasn't made an appearance since the last Bungie-made Halo game, Halo Reach, released all the way back in 2010.

Now, after months of teasing, developing, and a beta version released a few months ago, Halo 5: Guardians is finally getting the fan favorite mode next week, on June 29th.

The update will introduces three new maps—Attack on Sanctum for Warzone, Prospect for Warzone Assault, and Molten, a new arena map. Forge mode will receive a new canvas on which players can build, called Tidal. New REQ items will also come with the update, including new armor sets, as well as weapon and vehicle variants. Firefight will introduce new bosses and vehicles like the Grunt Goblin and the AV-49 Wasp, and a score attack option for Multiplayer.

Finally, those who have yet to play Halo 5 will be able to try the whole game for free during the week Firefight is released. Hope to see you on the battlefield!

Goblin Grunt and UNSC Wasp Make First Appearances in latest Halo 5 Warzone Mode https://www.gameskinny.com/7j3ia/goblin-grunt-and-unsc-wasp-make-first-appearances-in-latest-halo-5-warzone-mode https://www.gameskinny.com/7j3ia/goblin-grunt-and-unsc-wasp-make-first-appearances-in-latest-halo-5-warzone-mode Tue, 21 Jun 2016 09:22:40 -0400 Phil Fry

In the latest upcoming update for Halo 5: Guardians' 24-player Warzone mode, 343 Industries is introducing a new gargantuan "Grunt Goblin" and a air support vehicle, the UNSC Wasp.

The Grunt Goblin is a burly mech controlled by the familiar Grunt unit. It's equipped with a colossal canon-like needler that is capable of inflicting dangerous amounts of damage to vehicles. The heavy needler can also launch a bombardment of needles upon up to 8 different players through multi-targeting. The Goblin can also emit a EMP pulse, shutting down any nearby vehicles, and in turn is immune to any EMP-like shots.

343 Industries gave a little more insight into the suit's design:

"Essentially, the backstory of this battle suit is it was built by Grunts for Grunts in what the Grunt designers agreed was the perfect embodiment of agility and lethality. Obviously when you have a Grunt driver or ‘jockey’ controlling this powerful battle suit, results may be unpredictable."  [Via Polygon]

Although the Grunt Goblin's arsenal demands to be taken seriously, there are several weak areas on the mechanized armor like its backpack which will disable the suit's heavy needler; however, by rendering the needler out of commission, the Goblin has access to a powerful grenade launcher. The cockpit of the suit is another potentially vulnerable area to focus fire.

If players so choose, the other addition to the Warzone update, the UNSC Wasp could be utilized to bring the Goblin down.

The Wasp is designed to be a "close air support" flying vehicle variant of the UNSC Hornet and Sparrowhawk. It's equipped with dual rocket launchers and a heavy machine gun.

The Wasp would be great for swooping in to unleash carnage on the Goblin, and retreating in guerrilla warfare fashion.

The UNSC Wasp will be available in Forge mode to players who obtain an REQ card, and both the Goblin and Wasp will be coming in the latest free update to Warzone mode, which is said to be coming soon.

Seven coolest custom Xbox One controllers you can make yourself https://www.gameskinny.com/y5oy7/seven-coolest-custom-xbox-one-controllers-you-can-make-yourself https://www.gameskinny.com/y5oy7/seven-coolest-custom-xbox-one-controllers-you-can-make-yourself Wed, 15 Jun 2016 08:22:19 -0400 Ty Arthur

With the horde of new releases, sequels, reboots, and HD remasters being announced at E3, sometimes the hardware news gets lost in the shuffle.

If you're an Xbox One owner and a fan of customization, then you are in for a serious treat – Microsoft just announced an online platform for selling fully customizable controllers.

That's right, you can head over to the Xbox Design Lab page here and have (mostly) full control over the color scheme of your Xbox One controller, changing the hue of each button and segment.

Updated Console, New Controller Options

This news comes on the heels of the Xbox One S reveal, which slims down the quite obese console to look less like an old school VHS player and more like the sleek and sexy gaming machine it truly is.

These new controllers will follow the updated design scheme of the Xbox One S as well, rather than the existing controller model sold with normal Xbones today. Not only has the shape slightly changed, but these newer ones also come with internal Bluetooth for more connectivity options and better wireless.

So how much is all this going to cost you? Not much more than a regular controller, actually. A custom design is $79.99 by itself.

There's also an option to have a short engraving on the front of the controller that runs another $9.99. Sadly, it would appear they won't engrave anything naughty or risque, but at the very least you could put your gamertag or the name of a friend if you are buying the controller as a gift.

When you've got all your options picked and your money sent off, these custom controllers will roll off the assembly line and ship out in September.

 Pick any combo you want!

So Many Options!

Just how much can you customize? There are 15 base body colors to choose from, which you can select on both the back and front, so that's already a huge number of combos.

The colors are vibrant (some of which are really making me think of those old N64 multi-color controller options) and range from dark to extremely bright and cartoonish (the blues in particular make me think of something from kid's toy box).

After the back and front body, you can then change the colors of bumpers and triggers, the d-pad, thumb sticks, ABXY buttons, and the view / menu buttons, all independently of each other.

It's a staggering number of color combos that can range from fully monochromatic to something that looks like a rainbow flag Facebook update. Sadly you don't get the full 15 color options on everything though: there's 8 for the thumb sticks, 5 for ABXY, and only 4 for the View / Menu buttons.

It would be nice if you could get all the colors for everything, or at least a more rounded color scheme for the other buttons. For instance, it's not really clear why the thumb sticks don't have a white option? That would fit just about any color scheme.

Now that you know how it works, we put together a selection of different options to find the best combinations. For fun, we themed them mostly around famous video game characters.

The Lollipop Chainsaw

Save your boyfriend's severed head from zombies in style!

The Mario

Yeah, we went cross console. Sorry.

The Yoshi

 Yep, we did it again.

The Master Chief

Hey we finally got back on target!

The Hornet

Alternatively, we could call this one "The Stryper"

The Mary Kay

You worked hard selling all that makeup!

The Gears Of War

Locust won't stand a chance against this baby...

Are you planning on laying down the cash for one of these custom controllers? What did you think of our picks, and what color combos would you choose?

Gears Of War 4 Limited Edition Elite Controller

For all of you who have held out on purchasing an Elite controller until one had a bloody, battle-weathered design and custom laser-etched claw marks through the snap button...well, your time has come.

Like all Elite Controllers, the recently-announced Gears Of War 4 Limited Edition Elite Controller comes with a plethora of swappable thumbsticks, D-pads, paddles, and triggers in addition to its striking design. And if that weren't enough, buying the controller also nets you exclusive in-game items and emblems. It's available for pre-order on the Microsoft Store for $199, so if you want one, start saving up now.

Have we missed any? What is your favorite controller variant, or do you prefer the standard controllers? Let us know in the comments! In the meantime, we're going to double-check between the couch cushions again to check for $20 bills. That Elite Controller isn't going to pay for itself!

Lunar White Controller

Microsoft really missed an opportunity with this controller-- they should have called it "The Goldfinger". Equipped with the same rubberized grips and metallic triggers as the Forza Motorsport 6 controller, but sporting a simultaneously more minimalist and lavish design, the Lunar White controller turned heads when it was released last fall.

The golden triggers and D-pad, as well as the golden icons on the menu and snap buttons give off a palpable air of elegance, something rare in the world of video game controller variants (or, at least, official ones). In addition, the way the button color icons pop out against the white controller background is vaguely reminiscent of the design of the original SNES controller. And that's never a bad thing. The Microsoft Store has these available for $65 as well.

Forza Motorsport 6 Controller

This beautiful controller was designed with racing gamers in mind, and its beauty is not just skin deep. Yes, the racing stripe and color scheme are striking, and seem to match the Ford GT (Forza Motorsport 6's hero car), but the controller has some great features under the hood as well.

The rear of the controller features rubberized grips presumably designed to be reminiscent of a steering wheel, and the triggers on the controller are metallic as well. And if all that weren't enough, I mean, just look at it again. The sleek, matte finish and the low-key racing stripe design are inspired, and the little pop of color between the buttons really brings everything together. Oh, and by the way, it's only about $5 more expensive than a standard controller. What are you waiting for? Get one!

Halo 5: Guardians Controllers

Microsoft marketed Halo 5: Guardians with all their might, and that marketing push included setting their design team to work on these two beautiful controller designs.

The standard Halo 5: Guardians controller features a hyper-futuristic look in shades of steel and silver, with blue highlights cutting across the controller to add much-needed pops of color. It is also available in a Master Chief variant, one that trades the futuristic look for a more militaristic one, featuring shades of green and orange inspired by the gaming legend's iconic helmet.

Both controllers also offer additional perks in their laser-etched details and textured grips on the front of the controller. Whether or not you're a fan of the Halo games, these controllers are striking and beautiful enough to stand on their own.

Shadow Controllers

For those of you who are tired of the standard Xbox One controller, but who also prefer a more minimalist look, Microsoft has released two "Shadow" controllers, available in a metallic copper tone and a deep ocean blue.

The controllers feature a smooth finish and dark gradients, as well as buttons that match the controller's color. They were released this March, but if you want to get your hands on one, you'll have to pop into Best Buy for the blue one, or into GameStop for the copper one, since Microsoft made them retailer exclusive.

If you don't feel like doing that, however, you can simply order either of them from Microsoft right here! The Dusk Shadow controller can be purchased here, and the Copper Shadow controller is available here.

Microsoft is no stranger to flashy, unique, and striking controller designs -- and they've been cranking out official controller variants since they entered the console market.

With their E3 announcement about custom controllers and the fact that they are now giving gamers the power to create our own controllers through their recently-launched Design Lab, it seems like the perfect time to count down the best 5 official controller variants that Microsoft has released for the Xbox One in the past few months.

The best part? All of these variants, even though some are limited editions, are still available on the Microsoft Store. So if you have $65 that has been burning a hole in your pocket, you're in luck!

Halo 5 Gets Its Weakest DLC REQ Drop Yet https://www.gameskinny.com/l820n/halo-5-gets-its-weakest-dlc-req-drop-yet https://www.gameskinny.com/l820n/halo-5-gets-its-weakest-dlc-req-drop-yet Wed, 01 Jun 2016 05:35:42 -0400 Chris Cooper

Maybe you're not like me and you LOVE warthogs in Halo 5. Personally, I loathe them. Like all Halo games, proper use of the warthog has its time and place but whenever I roll a random vehicle in Warzone I say a little prayer that it's not a warthog and it almost always turns out to be one. At this point I'd just as soon cash all my REQ points in for some kind of drop that made certain I never drew a warthog ever the hell again. But hey, that's just me.

However, if you're a big fan of warthogs this Halo go-around then the new Hog Wild DLC REQ Drop that released Tuesday, May 31st has you covered. It comes with the usual assortment of new weapons skins and some armor variants but the real meat of this drop comes in the form of some new 'hogs as well as vehicle skins.

I'll admit the Needler Hog looks pretty cool and a faster firing Rocket Hog is always welcome but that Rally Hog looks like more of the same skin REQ drops I'll have to wade through on my way to loftier items.

Whether you're stoked for this pack or feeling pretty "meh" like myself, we're now only a month out from the release of the next pack that promises the delivery of sweet, sweet Warzone Firefight and I damn sure can't wait for that!

Released today, May 31, 2016, the "Hog Wild REQ Drop" DLC for Halo 5 Guardians features variants of the classic, iconic Warthog vehicle.

The free DLC adds four new Warthogs, player emblems, the "Stinger" and "Interceptor" armor sets, and special weapon REQs.

The legendary Warthog REQ, the "Vespin Rocket Warthog" has faster reload times with accelerated rocket firing speeds.

The uncommon "Rally Warthog" revamps the classic Warthog with advanced armor and speed.

The content expansion also features the rare "Sword Needler Warthog" which fires needler rounds, and the uncommon "Rally Scout Warthog".

Other items include the legendary "Starfire" visor, the "Hybrid" weapon class, and the "Aurum" weapon skin loadout.

The largest expansion of content to Halo 5 Guardians, "Warzone Firefight" releases at the end of June 2016. This DLC will add even more REQ items, a new 8 player Firefight mode, weather effects in Forge map making, and even more vehicle variations. More information about this DLC may be found here

Halo 5's Free DLC "Hog Wild" Release Date and Details Revealed https://www.gameskinny.com/tn8j6/halo-5s-free-dlc-hog-wild-release-date-and-details-revealed https://www.gameskinny.com/tn8j6/halo-5s-free-dlc-hog-wild-release-date-and-details-revealed Sun, 29 May 2016 05:41:21 -0400 Daniel Lopez

Halo 5's next free update, "Hog Wild", is launching Tuesday, May 31st, according to a blog post by developer 343 Industries.

While the DLC won't becoming with any new maps, there will be a slew of new REQ items including Spartan armor, the hybrid weapon scope and, of course, Warthogs a plenty.

The post also mentioned "bigger items" that were slated for the Hog Wild release are being given finishing touches and will release along with the highly anticipated Warzone Firefight launch coming at the end of June.

Updates for the revamped Warzone game mode includes the Warzone Boss Refresh to create dynamic boss encounters. "Each Warzone match should be a bit different instead of the same encounters game after game," said 343 Industries in their post.

343 Industries also states their Legendary bosses in Warzone will carry "unique names, visual identity, and a unique REQ weapon." Players will have a chance to collect and use these weapons upon defeating said bosses.

Additionally, the team released details for their Arena Multiplayer summer update, including final map and game type combinations for Team Arena and the HCS Pro League. You can check out the nitty gritty on everything included in the update here.

In other Halo 5 news, the Memories of Reach update dropped earlier this month, adding the fan favorite Infection game mode and plenty of Halo: Reach inspired REQs.

PC gamers rejoice! One of the best first-person shooters might be coming back to PC, if rumors prove true. Kotaku recently released a report about the future of Xbox consoles, and inside that report was a mention of the Xbox One and PC coming together.

The reported project is called Project Helix, and it would involve big franchises like Halo making their way to PC in addition to the Xbox One console.

Kotaku stated:

"Developer sources have told us that Microsoft's new mandate is to release future games–including the flagship Halo series–on both platforms."

PC Gamers have been waiting for the Halo franchise to arrive for a long time now. Microsoft recently announced that Halo Wars 2 will come to PC, as well as the popular Forge mode found in the Halo games. Josh Holmes of 343 industries, the developer of Halo, stated that this is "just the beginning" for the popular Halo franchise on PC.

Along with Halo, other Microsoft franchises including Gears of War and Forza will make their way to a computer near you. I'm sure we will find out more information about project Helix at Microsoft's E3 press conference that takes place June 13th at 9:30 AM PST.
