This sweet game captivated players with the original, and the sequel adds the ability to play with a friend (or a parent). Make your own Yarny, then embark on an adventure that promotes teamwork and friendship.

\n

Guide your Yarnies through an adventure in a side-scrolling puzzle world that's buzzing with life. Playing together, each player controls one of the characters; alone, you can switch between them at will.

It's heartwarming and fun, but it can also be challenging in a great way at times, all of which makes it a perfect game for little gamers to cut their teeth on!

Everyone's favorite little bomb-spewing guy is back, and he's got all his friends with him! The classic gameplay returns in this great game, which is reminiscent of Saturday morning cartoons.

\n

Bomberman and his friends are up against some tough opponents this time, and each baddie comes with his own special skills (a la Megaman). Blast your way through stages, gather powerups, and take down the enemies.. but try not to blow yourself up while you're at it.

\n

This game receives a higher than usual recommended age because, while the idea is simple, it can get tough! It also, quite obviously, features exploding bombs and some silly violence in the cutscenes.

Yoku's Island Express

Price: $13.99
Rating: 4.5/5 on PlayStation Store
Recommended Age: 10+

\n

In this game, you play Yoku, a little dung beetle postmaster tasked with making some important deliveries and saving the day. Cue the poop jokes.

\n

Okay, aside from the unfortunate nature of the main character (and hey, the ball he rolls around is white!), this fun little game is an odd mix of Metroidvania platforming and pinball.

\n

That means that it's challenging, at times to the point of frustration. Yoku can't move much on his own, so he just rolls around and relies on the player to use pinball flippers to fling him around to new destinations.

\n

The game is rated 10+ for cartoon violence and crude humor (see: poop jokes) but it's the challenge that really makes this one better for slightly more seasoned little gamers.

The Swords of Ditto

\n

Price: $19.99
Rating: 4/5 on PlayStation Store
Recommended Age: 11+
Get it on: PlayStation Store

\n

The Swords of Ditto isn't perfect, but it's a fun little game in the spirit of the Zelda games that's definitely more fun to play co-op.

\n

Upon pulling a magical sword from a grave, you're tasked with becoming stronger so you can take on the evil enchantress Mormo and bring peace back to the land.. at least for the next 100 years.

\n

The game is procedurally generated and technically uses permadeath, but is set up in such a way that you're able to enjoy it without frustrations. Kids will enjoy the whimsical cartoon-like visuals, the literal "toys" that the characters attack with, and the cute kazoo-based soundtrack.

\n

We set the recommended age a bit higher for this one (it's rated ESRB-10) because despite the cutesy visuals, some of the puzzles are not always clear and there's a bit of reading. Also, you pull swords out of children's graves. It's kind of morbid in that regard, but not much else.

Scribblenauts meets Mario Party in this party game, meant to be played by families together. Some reviewers were disappointed in the game's repetitive nature, but as a family-friendly "together time" game, it's definitely a fun way to spend an afternoon.

\n

The game marks a stark departure from the usual style of Scribblenauts and instead uses 25 mini-games to pit players against each other in a race to the finish.

\n

The game does retain certain aspects of the Scribblenauts franchise, though, like the ability to write practically anything to life. This makes it a good way for kids to practice their writing skills and outside the box thinking.

Super Bomberman R Just Got a Huge Update https://www.gameskinny.com/p1p8g/super-bomberman-r-just-got-a-huge-update https://www.gameskinny.com/p1p8g/super-bomberman-r-just-got-a-huge-update Fri, 21 Apr 2017 14:03:22 -0400 Paige McGovern

Super Bomberman R just updated to version 1.3, and the changes are huge. Since this action-maze game was released for the Nintendo Switch on March 3, players have complained about latency and other control issues. Version 1.2 delivered on addressing these problems, and 1.3 continued with these game improvements -- as well as adding a lot more to the game.

Konami tweeted about the changes on Friday, one day after the patch's release:

Here's what you can expect in Super Bomberman R v. 1.3
  • FPS doubled from 30 to 60
  • Less lag when every Online Battle participant has working Internet access
    • Other > Basic Settings > Network Settings to find those players
  • Beginner and normal modes are easier to complete
  • Adjusted map height and slope to improve visibility
  • Strength of COM can be chosen by the players in Multiplayer Battle Mode
  • Battle Point increase/decrease rate changed for League Battle
  • Story Mode improvements
    • Use of L/R to change map inclination
    • Camera positioning fix through Other > Basing Settings
    • Strength adjustment of Five Dastardly Bombers
    • Free continuation after a certain amount of times paid
  • New additions to the shop
    • Four VS stages: White Cross, Lagoon, Max Speed, Power Zone
    • Two accessories: crowns, bombs
  • Slight adjustments to controls
  • Small bug fixes

YouTuber GameXplain spoke about the 1.3 update and showed viewers a before and after comparison of the game's FPS. Watch below:

New Characters Announced

Konami has also revealed that three new characters will be coming to Super Bomberman R for free:

  • Pyramid Head Bomber from Silent Hill
  • Vic Viper Bomber from Gradius
  • Belmont Bomber from Castlevania

As for when you can expect to see these new characters, there's no announced date yet. Stay tuned to GameSkinny to be the first to know when that news hits.

Super Bomberman R Story and Boss Guide https://www.gameskinny.com/3kpa8/super-bomberman-r-story-and-boss-guide https://www.gameskinny.com/3kpa8/super-bomberman-r-story-and-boss-guide Mon, 06 Mar 2017 14:23:16 -0500 Synzer

Super Bomberman R has a story mode that requires you to complete some sort of objective each level until you reach the boss of that world. These range from just defeating all enemies to collecting keys. The bosses all have a special mechanic and come in 2 parts.

I'm going to go over the different things you can do in story mode, as well as the rewards for completing it. If you are just getting into Bomberman, be sure to check out my Beginner Tips and Tricks for early help with the game.

This guide will go over everything about story mode in Super Bomberman R, including:

  • Story Mode Objectives - The different types of objectives you will come across while playing story mode.
  • Boss Tips - What each boss does and tips on beating them.
  • Story Mode Rewards - What you get for beating story mode.

Story Mode Objectives

The story mode is traditional and broken up into different worlds. Each world requires you to complete levels until you reach the boss. Each level requires you to complete an objective before you can move on. At first it is simply defeat all enemies, but it starts to change as you progress through the game.

Walk over Switches

These levels have a certain number of switches that you must walk over to activate. There is another version of this late in the game that has them hidden, so you must blow things up until you find them.

Collect Keys

These levels require you to collect a certain number of keys before you can move on. You can find them by blowing up blocks.

Escort

These levels have people scattered throughout the level that you must rescue. You have to walk over them to have them follow you, then take them to the goal.

If they are hit by a bomb blast, they will return to their original spot, so you have to rescue them again. You also must have all of the people with you at once before you can deliver them to their destination.

Survive

These levels require you to survive constantly spawning enemies until the time runs out. After the timer hits 0, you can leave the level.

Boss Tips

Each world has 2 boss levels. The 1st is a normal fight against 1 of the 5 dastardly bombers. The 2nd is a fight against a giant machine version.

World 1: Magnet Bomber

Part 1

This guy sometimes sets bombs that will follow you. He is one of the hardest bombers to beat in normal form, even though he's the first you fight.

You can use his magnet bombs to your advantage since they follow you. Run to Magnet bomber when you are being followed and set another bomb to trap him.

Part 2

super bomberman r world 1 boss

This is a crab tank that is easy to beat. Simply bomb its 6 legs to make it collapse. After that, keep blowing it up up while it is on the ground to damage him. It will get up after a short time, so you may have to do it 2-3 times.

World 2: Golem Bomber

Part 1

This is a massive guy that can squash you if he gets close. Try to keep your distance and block off paths to take him down.

Part 2

This giant robot continually spins around, breathes fire from the front, and calls down blasts to hit you.

Bomb his 4 yellow legs to make him collapse, then bomb his head to damage him. When the yellow legs change color, that means you destroyed it. This takes 2 hits.

I suggest bombing his back legs first, then the front. This way when he collapses, you won't have to go far and lose time bombing his head.

super bomberman r world 2 boss

World 3: Phantom Bomber

Part 1

This bomber sometimes sets "phantom" bombs. These are fake bombs that do not blow up, and you can walk right through them. The only way to tell is by trying to walk through it.

Whenever he sets a bomb, just go to it to see if it is fake. If it is, use this time to trap him.

Part 2

This is a floating machine that is is a little tricky. You can't damage it at first, but there are 4 lights in each corner of the room. Blow up each of these lights to make him fall, then go down to bomb him. You will have to repeat this multiple times until you win.

super bomberman r world 3 boss

World 4: Karaoke Bomber

Part 1

She sets bombs that explode when you get close, so she can be hard to beat. I actually used her own bomb to kill her by kicking a bomb towards her and having it go off early to detonate when it was close to her.

Part 2

She flies around in a heart-shaped machine with wings. The trick is to wait until her wings go on the ground, then bomb them. This happens when she makes an electric gate you have to stay out of and when she thrown them underneath her.

Once you've bombed all 4, she will fall and you can damage her.

super bomberman r world 4 boss

World 5: Plasma Bomber

Part 1

Plasma Bomber sets bombs that can explode at different times, so you have to be careful. Just be aware when he sets a special bomb, and trap him while he is setting one down.

Part 2

This version has him in a ship that can punch you or bombs. Set bombs in front of him when he is about to punch, then he will hit hit it and fall down. Use this time to damage him. Repeat until you win.

super bomberman r world 5 boss

World 6: Buggler

Part 1

This is a giant boss battle that combines mechanics from all 5 dastardly bombers. You will need to go to both sides and bomb when the shoulders are lowered. After doing both side 2-3 times, you can go to the front to damage him.

Watch for his fists, because they will stop bombs from exploding. You will also need to use the jump pads to reach his shoulders.

Part 2

This is the same concept as part 1, but you must use moving platforms to get around the boss. You will need to time your bombs so that you can get on the platforms and back to the middle as quick as possible, or you will miss your chance to damage him.

Watch out for his fist and beam attacks, especially when on the side.

super bomberman r world 6 boss

Story Mode Rewards

Once you complete the story mode for the first time, you will unlock the ability to buy all 5 dastardly bombers in the shop. They each cost 5,000 and can even be used in online multiplayer.

Also, once you beat the game, you will be able to select any world to replay. Completing each world gets you money, which you can use to buy those characters, head customizations, or levels.

You will get more money based on the number of lives you have at the end of the level, not using any continues, and the number of items you collect during the world.

You still have to play the entire world though, and can't just go back to each boss. Still, this is the easiest method for gaining money, unless you can win a lot in ranked mode online.

That's it for my Story and boss guide for Super Bomberman R. Let me know if you have any questions!

The original Skylanders spawned the toys-to-life craze that Disney Infinity and Nintendo’s Amiibos followed quickly after. A simple, kid-friendly platforming adventure game, Skylanders: Imaginators allows players to put Skylanders figurines onto the Portal of Power, which allows them to control the characters in-game. Imaginators brings in a new feature -- customizable characters. Unfortunately, the Switch port of the game will not support Traps and Vehicles from some of the previous entries in the series.

One of the best examples of modern 2-D side-scrollers, Shovel Knight and its expansions "Plague of Shadows" and "Specter of Torment" will debut on the Nintendo Switch. The original game and Plague of Shadows were critically acclaimed and considered the best homage to classic 8-bit side-scrollers. The new expansion, "Specter of Torment," has players taking control of the Reaper in an all new story. The Switch version will have two player co-op as well.

A cute indie-like title that is, unfortunately, likely to fly under the radar, Snipperclips is a cooperative game where players can cut each other up into different shapes in order to solve puzzles and complete levels. The game supports up to four players, and like 1-2 Switch, is guaranteed to generate laughter as players either work together to progress through the game or purposely cut each other up to frustrate the other players.

Super Bomberman R Review: The Return of a Classic https://www.gameskinny.com/si62k/super-bomberman-r-review-the-return-of-a-classic https://www.gameskinny.com/si62k/super-bomberman-r-review-the-return-of-a-classic Sun, 05 Mar 2017 00:11:48 -0500 Synzer

Super Bomberman R makes a comeback as a launch title on the new Nintendo Switch console. This series started in 1983 on the original NES and many games in the series have come out since then.

Bomberman is a unique strategic experience that fans have grown to love over the years. The good news is that you can expect that same great game in the newest entry.

What I Liked About Super Bomberman R

The base gameplay is the best part of the game. If you are wondering if it plays like classic Bomberman games -- it sure does. The intense four or eight-player action is back, and the satisfaction of successfully blowing up another player never gets old.

For people that have never played a past Bomberman game, this is mostly strategy with a little action. Sure, there are bombs exploding everywhere, but you have to strategically place them and use power-ups to catch your opponent in one of those blasts.

The game involves setting a timed bomb, then waiting for it to explode. You blow up blocks to make room to move, and they sometimes contain power-ups.

People can easily escape a bomb before it goes off; that's why you have to trap them or block their path in some way. You can even catch them off guard and make them accidentally run into another explosion.

Games don't usually take too long; Even if you have a three-minute timer, there is usually a winner before times runs out.

Multiplayer in Super Bomberman R

super bomberman r multiplayer

Each Bomberman has a personality; which brings more character and life to even the multiplayer. You can either play online or locally by using one joycon each. Many power-ups are in the game, but there are some missing, too, like the Set All Bombs power-up, which adds to the game's frenetic tension.

There are multiple stages and many are multi-tiered or have some kind of interesting mechanic that set them apart from each other, adding a layer of strategy when deciding what to do. If you're old-school, there's even a classic level without any tricks -- so you can just blast the AI into oblivion the old-fashioned way.

Online mode has Free Battle, where you can customize your game however you want, and plays like Local mode. And on top of that, there's League Battle, which acts as the game's ranked mode. This mode uses set rules and has fewer types of power-ups. Winning gives you points and losing takes them away. When you get enough, you rank up.

The problem is that the amount of points you get when you win or lose is the same, so it can be hard to rank up unless you get winning streaks and don't lose much.

What I Didn't Like About Super Bomberman R

This part is tricky because the parts I didn't like still have parts that I actually enjoy.

Story

It is cool that there's an actual story and the bosses are great fun. What I didn't like is the "busy work" to get to those bosses. There are 50 levels, with a boss every 10 levels. This means you have to play nine normal levels first.

That in itself isn't bad, but these levels did not feel as exciting as playing multiplayer, and I found myself just wanting it to be over so I could fight a boss. The bosses are really fun, though, and worth playing the story just for that.

Customization

super bomberman r customization shop

I applaud the effort at putting customization in the game, but there are only head-customization options, and not very many of them. What sucks is that you have to continually buy the same item if you want alternate colors -- you can't just, uh, change the color on the one you already have. The worst part is that the price goes up each time.

The Verdict

Overall, Super Bomberman R is a nostalgia trip, but one I think is worth playing after it that glow has worn off. This is a nice break from the overwhelming complex games of today, and the fun never gets old. It may not be groundbreaking in the series, but Bomberman R is one of those games that doesn't need that.

Super Bomberman R Beginner Tips and Tricks https://www.gameskinny.com/maeey/super-bomberman-r-beginner-tips-and-tricks https://www.gameskinny.com/maeey/super-bomberman-r-beginner-tips-and-tricks Fri, 03 Mar 2017 12:16:43 -0500 Synzer

Bomberman is an old series that started on the original NES. The latest entry, Super Bomberman R, has that classic gameplay, with the addition of a Story Mode.

For anyone that hasn't played Bomberman before, things can be chaotic. You may not know the power ups, and figuring out the best way to set bombs may not be obvious.

I'm going to help you be the top bomber by explaining everything you need to know.

Bomberman Basics

The goal in multiplayer matches is to be the last Bomberman standing. This means you need to set bombs to explode opponents, or have them get caught off guard by their own explosions.

You start with 1 bomb that has a small range, but you can explode boxes to reach your opponents. These boxes also have powerups in them that change the way your bombs work and how you control them.

If you get blown up and there are at least 2 people left, you go into Revenge Cart. This puts you in a small ship that lets you move around the edges of the map and throw bombs on the field.

If you blow someone up with your bomb, you get put back into the game. Think of it as a very explosive game of dodgeball.

Power Ups Info

The power ups are a big part of the game and how you can usually win.

  • Bomb - Increases how many bombs you set at once.
  • Fire - Increases the range of your explosion.
  • Skate - Increases your movement speed.
  • Boxing Glove - Lets you punch a bomb, which knocks it in the air a space in front of you.
  • Blue Glove - Lets you pick up a bomb and throw it in front of you.
  • Kick - Lets you kick a bomb down a lane until it hits something.

They also have power downs for things like Bomb, Skate, and Fire, to decrease it by one level. There are also Skulls that you can turn on for local and free play multiplayer. These will give you a random curse, like making your controls opposite.

Multiplayer Info and Tips

You can play local or online multiplayer with 2-8 players. You can detach the joycons and use each as a separate controller, then pair it up with the Switch to play.

Online lets you play League or Free Battle. League has set rules and allows you to earn money and BP to work your way through the league. You can use the money to buy hats or levels. There is a section for new characters, but there are none available at this time.

super bomberman r online multiplayer

Bomberman is mostly a strategy game, so you have to use tactics to blow up your opponents.

Try to get either glove power-up

This is a game changer and will allow you to trap people much easier. The best way to use it is to throw or punch a bomb on the edge of the screen. This causes it to go to the other side.

  • Example: You are at the top of the map and your opponent is at the bottom. Just set a bomb at the edge and either punch or throw it at the top. this causes it to go to the bottom of the screen with your opponent.

This can catch them off-guard and trap them easily when they go to blow up a box. You can also do this from the sides -- or over boxes and walls.

Carefully place bombs, don't just randomly spam setting them

This is important, because the only way you can defeat someone by doing this is if you get lucky. Even if you set a bunch of bombs, watch where you place them, and try to time them so that you trap people.

Use other bombs to detonate yours faster

When a bomb explodes, it causes all other bombs within range to explode as well. If you time this right, you can detonate your bombs faster by putting them in the path of an explosion.

Pay attention to the map

Some of the maps have special features, such as magnets that pull bombs towards them. Use these map hazards and features to your advantage to catch unsuspecting bombers in your explosions.

Those are all the tips I have for people just starting in Super Bomberman R. Let me know of any other strategies you've come up with!

The Switch is Out and These 3 Launch Titles are a MUST! https://www.gameskinny.com/i5jhw/the-switch-is-out-and-these-3-launch-titles-are-a-must https://www.gameskinny.com/i5jhw/the-switch-is-out-and-these-3-launch-titles-are-a-must Sun, 05 Mar 2017 13:00:01 -0500 Will Dowell

The Nintendo Switch is already out! From the Switch's portable nature to the utility of the Joy-Cons, this new Nintendo console shows a lot of promise.

But what about the games? While the first year is full of interesting titles in which to invest your time, the launch lineup itself is quite small. Luckily, there are a few games that are must-plays for the new Nintendo console. Here are 3 launch titles you just have to get.

Fast RMX

While only an eShop title, Fast RMX is essential for anyone wanting some F-Zero-like racing. Previously known as Fast Racing NEO, Fast RMX is an remix meant to show the power the Nintendo Switch possesses. Showcasing the Nintendo Switch's hardware, Fast RMX runs at a stellar 60 FPS at 1080p resolution. This graphical fidelity is used to create beautiful tracks for the player to race in. Speed through stunning storms, fantastic canyons, and colorful cities.

Fast RMX focuses on adrenaline fueled racing to keep players engaged. Players must use a phasing system to gain speed and win the 10 Cups on offer. For those looking for friendly competition, Fast RMX offers 4-player split screen racing and 8-player online action. At a price point of $19.99, Fast RMX is also the cheapest title of this list. Engage in fast paced racing with Fast RMX.

Super Bomberman R

Super Bomberman R marks the grand return of the enjoyable Bomberman series. Considered a premier party/action game, Bomberman pits up to eight online players against each other in maps reminiscent of previous Bomberman games. For local multiplayer, you can have up to four players per Switch battle each other. Engage in energetic combat as you bomb each other into oblivion.

For those looking for a single-player campaign, don't worry. There is a 50-level campaign that can be played either solo or with a friend. In said campaign, take part in five boss battles and defend the world from the Evil Emperor Buggler. For those interested in explosive combat, you can't go wrong with Super Bomberman R.

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is clearly the killer app for the Nintendo Switch's launch. Adventure through an open-world as you explore dungeons, find treasure, and save the world. Taking a different direction than recent Zelda games, Breath of the Wild focuses on a fully explorable world, one that is not blocked by item progression. You can take on the final boss from the beginning, but, of course, it would extremely difficult to do so.

Breath of the Wild still shares many similarities to its predecessors, primarily the first game. Exploration is key and dungeons are laid out in a way that challenges the player. Combat is similar to the 3D Zeldas, but relies more heavily on different bows and weapons. With Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, be prepared to experience Zelda like you never have before.

---

These games stand above the rest of the Switch's launch library. With these games, the Nintendo Switch can provide hours of entertainment right off the bat. The Nintendo Switch is on store shelves right now, retailing for $299 in the U.S.
