More Matches!

Current WWE 2K games are trying to replicate the actual matches that happen in reality, like one-on-one, tag team, extreme rules, etc. But what if players want to experience a fun and creative match? Unfortunately, when WWE 2K15 came out, many unique matches like inferno matches, special guest referee matches, and more were taken out of the game.

If those matches that were taken out were to be brought back in WWE 2K18, along with other matches like Buried Alive, casket match, barbed wire match, and others, fans would definitely have something to look forward to. There would be lots of possibilities with those matches, which could also increase replay value.

These are just a handful of things we want to see in this year's installment of the WWE 2K franchise. There are many other technicalities and mechanics that can be improved or enhanced, but the ones that are listed here are some of the basic ones, since they can greatly enhance the gameplay experience and make the game more authentic, interactive, and realistic. Even if at least one of these suggestions will be taken into consideration and implemented into the game, WWE 2K18 will surely become a much better title when compared to its modern predecessors.

What other improvements and additions would you like to see in the upcoming WWE 2K18 game? Feel free to share in the comment section!

Make 'My Career Mode' More Fun and Meaningful

When 'My Career' mode made its debut in WWE 2K15, it was a hot mess. Extremely boring and repetitive grinding made the mode extremely un-fun and dry all around. WWE 2K16 and 2K17 made improvements by adding things like backstage interviews, the ability to interfere in other wrestlers' matches, starting rivalries, and more. But that wasn't enough to make the whole mode feel authentic and make players feel like they were an actual WWE wrestler.

One interesting way to improve 'My Career' mode in WWE 2K18 is to make it more engaging and interactive. Incorporate storylines, but with choices, somewhat similar to Telltale Games' series, where certain actions and responses will generate significant outcomes and consequences.

For instance, ambush a wrestler during an important match and then feel free to either explain your actions or not, all while carefully planning out your next move. Something like that would make the gameplay more meaningful and interactive.

It would be nice to create a female wrestler in 'My Career' mode and see how she'd do in the women's division.

Make Face Importing Easier/Simpler

The NBA 2K games may have some face scanning horror stories. Sure, it might create monsters and abominations, but at least the face scanning feature is there -- unlike in WWE 2K games. After browsing the web, we managed to find videos that perfectly depict the tedious and unnecessary process of importing one's face into a WWE game (feel free to watch the video above).

The process of taking a picture of your face, editing it in Photoshop, importing it to a website, and importing it into the game may not only waste players' time, but it may also make them quit the whole game.

Why can't WWE games implement the face scanning feature that NBA games have? Just scan your face with the camera that corresponds with your system and you're good to go!

Undertaker Showcase

WrestleMania 33 may have been The Undertaker's last match, but that doesn't mean that his legacy should be forgotten. Yes, this year's cover is Seth Rollins, and there might be some sort of showcase mode that will deal with him, but it would be nice to have Undertaker's legacy included somewhere as a "bonus" showcase mode.

Even if you're not a wrestling fan, or stopped watching wrestling some time ago, chances are, you've heard of The Undertaker at some point in your life. The man is loved and respected by a lot of people, and he has achieved so much during his time in the WWF and WWE that not including him as a significant figure in WWE 2K18 will make things awkward and somewhat puzzling.

Better Commentary

One major improvement that players want to see pertains to the commentary. Every year, we are told that the commentary has been slightly tweaked and beefed up with more lines and quotes. But the problem is that the in-game commentary isn't as great as its real-life counterpart. If you have played any of the past WWE 2K games and actually listened to the commentary, it's really bad.

Some examples include:

  • Not calling the action when it happens
  • \n
  • Repeating the same annoying and bland phrases over and over again
  • \n
  • Not being "emotional" enough when insane moves are pulled off
  • \n

Improving the commentary and making it more believable and realistic will significantly help WWE 2K18 be a better game. Some ways to do that could include fixing and improving commentary tracks and trying to bring the commentary to the level of other 2K titles like NBA 2K.

Now that the latest entry in the WWE 2K games franchise, WWE 2K18, has been announced, wrestling fans have something to look forward to this October, especially if they are fans of Seth Rollins, who is on this year's cover.

WWE 2K games have something new to offer every year, whether it's improvements to current mechanics or added features. For example, in WWE 2K15 and further on, players were able to go through 'My Career' mode by creating their own wrestler and making the journey through NXT to the Hall of Fame.

It is fair, however, to point out that not all of the WWE 2K games are perfect. Each one has its flaws and has room for improvement. From boring and ridiculous storylines in 'My Career' mode to the awful commentary present during matches, there has yet to be a perfect modern title that captures the mood and the feel of real-life wrestling.

Here, we talk about five things that could make WWE 2K18 a better game than those that came before it -- and how it will hopefully exceed its predecessors since the title follows the motto of #BeLikeNoOne.

5 Fighting Game Subgenres That Have Yet to Be Explored https://www.gameskinny.com/63jea/5-fighting-game-subgenres-that-have-yet-to-be-explored https://www.gameskinny.com/63jea/5-fighting-game-subgenres-that-have-yet-to-be-explored Wed, 01 Feb 2017 06:45:01 -0500 Marc Anthony

Fighters have always been more for the competitive scene in gaming with fast-paced gameplay and entertaining matches of combat. Some genres of fighting game, however, have gone unexplored and should be incoming in the future for the common player, as well as the competitive player.

Sport Fighters

Wrestling, such as WWE inspired games, and MMA games have always been in my opinion under appreciated, but very entertaining with exciting matches as the popular real-life characters. Using real move sets are great, but mechanically have work to do.

There are many sports which are not well represented under this genre. Sports such as fencing, fist-fighting (taekwondo), and wrestling (greco-roman) are not seen in the category at all. Are people who loves these sports not allowed to be entertained? Often, movements in these games are static and unoriginal, but maybe they can take lessons For Honor's combat system.

2D Party Brawlers

These games fall under party brawlers and platform fighters; such as the Super Smash Bros franchise. However, games listed under the 2D sub-genre haven't been seen as frequently as they should have, and so have gone unexplored presently.

The 2D party brawlers should make their return into the fighter genre. They are simple to grasp for players and could be improved with more strategic elements for stage development. This, in turn, could grant more advantages to develop a brawler and make the leap into 3D. In this way, 2D could be used as a stepping stone for new fighters into 3D by getting fanbases before being developed that may possibly flop.

RPG Fighters

RPG fighters are self-exclamatory, they are fighter games with RPG elements. The very idea seems to be a good concept to delve into, but has not been developed consistently. RPG fighters force you to adapt within a game, making you use various types of styles and skill-sets, they require you to constantly change and that can be a fun new mechanic.

Being able to switch equipment and have specialized skill sets could be a new form of fighting game that constantly create new ways to play. This could even be influenced competitively, with teams being dropped in a world and win in a king of the hill style match-up where you can't flee battles.

Mech Game

Mech fighters have never been represented as a sub-genre of fighters. The basic notion of gigantic robots fighting is more of a movie thing than a game to play -- Pacific Rim may have been a good movie, but probably couldn't make a transition into a game.

Environments for such fighters would have to be shown in vast 3D environments, a basic 2D side-scroller won't give off the gigantic mech feeling. Also, it is not as easy to form a relationship with a mechanical character, because these mechs do not have human emotion within their own agendas. This relationship incentivizes players into choosing 'their' character in a video game due to this established relationship between player and character; the closest thing to mechs with emotions are the Transformers.

We need more mechs who have emotions, I want more mechs with emotions. And unfortunately no games have been centered solely around mechanical fighting. It's lacking within the fighter genre and could make for a fierce competitor to other fighting games.

Cel-Shading/Anime Fighters

Anime fighters are extremely entertaining and bring in a wide range of audiences, from fans of their shows, to graphic enthusiasts, and manga readers. This genre is under-explored with only a few titles getting fighting done correctly and efficiently with fluid game mechanics, counters, and backgrounds. Many anime shows can be made into fighting games, and more of these games could be centered around other popular franchises, with their own character's move sets and a compelling storyline to match.

Many fighting game sub-genres are under-appreciated or unexplored, but some can ultimately become great sub-genres that could reimagine and reinvent fighters with their impact.

Picture Perfect: How to Use WWE 2K17's Finicky Face Photo Capture System https://www.gameskinny.com/cnc1z/picture-perfect-how-to-use-wwe-2k17s-finicky-face-photo-capture-system https://www.gameskinny.com/cnc1z/picture-perfect-how-to-use-wwe-2k17s-finicky-face-photo-capture-system Mon, 17 Oct 2016 10:01:05 -0400 RobotsFightingDinosaurs

WWE 2k17 is finally here, and as is custom, there are plenty of... well, customization tools. The character creation options have been massively expanded from the previous year's iteration, giving creative players the ability to fashion their own works of art.

But even the most finely crafted portrait still needs a face, which is why the face photo capture system makes a return. The technology is pretty impressive, allowing players to overlay a real-world photo onto a character to create recreations of real-world people, but it can be finicky at times. That's why we've compiled this handy list of tips for WWE 2k17's face capture system, so that you can create accurate in-ring versions of your favorite people with ease.

Getting started

The first thing to note is that this year, there's no mobile app for uploading face photos. It all happens online, through the WWE 2k17 logo uploader. Once you open up the page, it'll ask for a code in order to connect it with your copy of WWE 2k17. Simply go to the logo manager in-game, request a code, and punch it into the site.

At that point, you can go hog wild uploading logos to use in game. One of the great things about the new logo uploader is that you can actually view and delete your images online as they are being uploaded, so you can check to see if everything went through all right.

Uploading images

If all you want to do is simply upload logos and images from the internet to paste on your wrestler's t-shirt and around a custom arena, that's pretty much all you need to know. Uploading those files should be pretty straightforward. Even downloaded face capture images should work pretty well without any extra effort on your part.

Issues will arise, however, when you want to use photos taken with a digital camera or from your phone. You'll need to do a bit of extra legwork to make those photos play nice with WWE 2k17's logo manager.

Photography Tips

If you've tried to upload a phone selfie to WWE 2k17's logo manager system, you've likely run into one of two issues: either your photo is warped or squished, or it's rotated 90 degrees to the side. We'll go over how to fix both of those problems here.

How to Fix a Rotated Photo

The root of this problem lies in embedded data hidden within photo files. A lot of these images have built in rotation data that tells computers, image editing software, and websites the way in which an image should be oriented. For some reason, the WWE 2k17 logo manager doesn't play nice with this data, causing phone selfies to rotate when they're uploaded. This can be fixed easily by holding your phone sideways when taking your selfie either using the front-facing camera or having a friend take a picture of you using the rear-facing camera.

How to Fix a Squished or Warped Photo

Now that you've uploaded that photo, you've probably noticed that the image appears squished on the website. That's because all WWE 2k17 face images are scaled to a 1:1 ratio. This means that wide or tall photos will be stretched, squished, and warped until they fit. But luckily this is an easy fix.

Simply open up the file in an image editor (most phones have built-in image editors as well, so now need to upload to your computer). Crop the photo to a 1:1 length-width ratio (so a square image). Make sure, however, that you leave ample space around your face so that you have room to maneuver it when you actually apply it to your character.

Downloading and Using Images

So you have a whole bunch of images in the WWE 2k17 server. Great! But how do you get them on your system and on your characters? The process is a lot simpler than it was last year, but if you're used to WWE 2k16's system, you might be searching for your images for a bit. They're not in uploads or downloads, they actually appear now in the Logo Manager tab, under the "incoming" heading. Download them from there, and you'll be all good.

The next step is simply to open up the character creator and in the "face" menu, select the photo capture option. We recommend playing around with the sample faces in the game first, just to get to grips with how to overlay the photos on the face, and afterward, how to fine-tune the face shape and location of facial features.

Generally, you want to drill down in terms of specificity for example, when you're setting your face size, just make sure that your features are somewhat in the right place. You can fine-tune the size and position later, but if you try to do too much too early, you'll end up with more of a Picasso face than a Rembrandt.

After that's done, you're all set! Follow the on-screen instructions, and you'll be on your way.

How are you liking WWE 2k17 so far? Feel free to share your favorite screenshots or thoughts in the comments. In the meantime, we'll be trying to recreate characters from Attack on Titan in the character creator.

10 Things We CAN Do in WWE 2K17 https://www.gameskinny.com/17yie/10-things-we-can-do-in-wwe-2k17 https://www.gameskinny.com/17yie/10-things-we-can-do-in-wwe-2k17 Fri, 14 Oct 2016 10:00:01 -0400 SmellingBeeWinner

It is I, SmellingBeeWinner, here to milk the WWE 2K17 topic for all it's worth, since it is out now. I previously wrote an article on what we cannot do in the game, but now, let's make do with what we've got. Here are 10 things we can do with all the new features in the game.

10. Revive the Vaudevillains' Careers

Here we see the Vaudevillains with the champions, as it should be. It's a shame that they're at the bottom of the totem pole in the tag division nowadays. However, with the ability to change belt owners, the Vaudevillains can have all the belts! WWE Tag Champs, NXT Champs, WCW Champs, World Tag Champs, etc! Why stop there? Aiden English for Undisputed Champion, everyone! What about the women's belts? Easy! Add Sasha Banks (or Summer Rae, so it's funny) to the Vaudevillains and give her all the belts she can hold. Now the Vaudevillains will know what it's like to reach the top of the mountain.

9. Put Roman Reigns Over

Poor old Roman "the Guy" Reigns can't seem to catch a break. It would seem fans would rather catch the Bubonic Plague or leprosy of the genitals before they would see Roman Reigns as champ. It's not the Guy's fault; he's simply been shoved down the fans' throats, and now the fans want to throw up. In the game, it's a simple fix. Simply play as Roman Reigns. He will be cheered, and all will be right in the WWE Universe.

8. Recreate Goldberg's Streak

Gold "Da Guy" (not to be confused with Roman "the Guy" Reigns) Berg's WCW run was memorable to say the least, and his most defining feature was his unbeaten streak. Not his technical prowess or his in-ring ability. He was supposedly 173 - 0 before losing. While 173 is clearly not the real number, with Gold "Da Guy" Berg in the game, you can make it so! But why even Goldberg? There are so many people to choose from! I expect to hear about Curtis Axel's 286 - 0 streak before long.

7. It for the Rock

While 2K17 does not have the game mode where you can create your own story lines, you know who is in the game? Good old 'Kishi, with his pals, The Rock, and Stone Cold Steve Austin, So yeah, feel free to do it for the Rock and for the people.

6. Listen to P. Diddy's Jams

Instead of listening to wrestlers' themes as the soundtrack, Sean "Puff 'P. Diddy' Daddy" Combs took it upon himself to pick a soundtrack for the game. Get your hippity-rap on as you jam to his tunes on your computer games while creating Mason Ryan in the game (we still miss you) to feed him to good ol' Curtis Axel's 394 - 0 streak.

5. Play as Alberto del Rio

Earlier this year, Bert from the River requested his release from the WWE. He's still in the game, so while he is still there, let's play him. It might help us find closure. For the saints out there, you can pair him and Paige together to make things right in the world.

4. John Cena: 421-Time Champ!

For those of you who want to reward Cena for all his hard work and all those times he helped out sick children, fret not! Now you can make sure Cena holds all the belts! WCW United States Champion? Take that from Aiden English! Hardcore Champion? Beat Gotch in a backstage brawl! Women's Champion? Put Summer Rae through a table! There are so many championships to give John, so better get started soon.

3. Give Kane Sin Cara's Entrance

Imagine Kane, limber as an old man who is not afflicted by arthritis, running down the ramp to his music. He then jumps over the top rope as the commentators and your opponent gasp in amazement! He then promptly gets defeated by Curtis Axel, whose streak is now 501 - 0.

2. Good Lucha Things

My homeboy Kalisto is in this game! He was in the game last year, but he's in 2K17, which is what this article is talking about! And he's ready to do some good lucha things! In case you didn't see it, try find Kalisto's promo from the WWE Draft, then come back. This entry will then be a lot funnier.

1. #BeatUpJohnBradshawLayfield

Unlike Otunga or Saxton, who are not in the game, everyone's favorite commentator is! Play as Dean "He's a Lunatic!" Ambrose, and attack him until he can see God. He loves it, Marro! The only place you can see him is on the A-Show, Smackdown Live!

That's the 10 most exciting things we can do in WWE 2K17, are you excited to be able to do these too? What are you most excited about? But above all, have fun with the game, fellers!

10 Things We Should Be Able To Do In WWE 2K17 https://www.gameskinny.com/h2xp0/10-things-we-should-be-able-to-do-in-wwe-2k17 https://www.gameskinny.com/h2xp0/10-things-we-should-be-able-to-do-in-wwe-2k17 Mon, 10 Oct 2016 17:37:14 -0400 SmellingBeeWinner

On Tuesday, WWE 2K17 will be released on console.

The game promises a lot, like backstage fighting, fighting in the crowd, AJ Styles, and more fighting. Despite all the fighting that could possibly be done, there are a few things we won't be able to do just yet. Here's a list of those things.

10. Attack the Commentators

WWEIf I have to hear one more blockhead commentator say something stupid in the game, I would like to show how my feet can be put to good use. I think know I speak for everyone when I say we would all like to clock Michael Cole in the head with a steel chair. You can relax, Cole; I mean in the game. And may God have mercy on Otunga's or Byron Saxton's souls when we get our hands on them. Alas, we will have to wait a bit more for the commentators to get their comeuppance.

9. Forklift / Pole Matches

WCW2K17 boasts a lot of different types of matches, but noticeably absent are the forklift and pole matches that were a staple of the late 90s. Contract on a pole match? Mother on a forklift match? We will never get to experience pitting the Vaudevillains against each other in a Paycheck on a Pole match where Aiden English wins, and Gotch has to figure out how to make two Hot Pockets last him an entire week.

8. It for the Rock

In one of the biggest whodunnits of the WWE, the whole roster was dead-set on trying to find out who ran over Stone Cold Steve Austin. Of course, it was Rikishi who did it for the Rock. 2K17 does not have the feature where you can create your own stories and scenes, so do not expect anyone else to get run over for the Rock (and for the people as well).

7. Come From Money (Come From Class)

WWEEveryone's favorite create-a-wrestler come to life, Ted Dibiase Jr., is not on the roster for 2K17. Of course, we all know that Dibiase left the WWE in 2013, and it hasn't been the same since. However, we can take solace in the fact that he is helping young boys out in Mississippi, so our boy Teddy is doing some good in this world. Still, it's an injustice that he isn't in the game.

6. Get Vengeance for the Nexus

The Nexus could have been great. It would have been the genesis of McGillicutty, for one thing. John Cena, for some crazy reason, defeated the Nexus soundly at Summerslam before destroying Barrett's hopes of becoming a main event player. It would be satisfying for John Cena to get what's coming to him. Unfortunately, this cannot be so. Barrett, Gabriel, Tarver, and Sheffield are gone from the roster while Otunga's busy talking to Rikishi about The Usos' new behavior on a movie set. That leaves Darren Young and Heath Slater, but it's not enough.

5. Tear Your Quad

WWEQuite frankly, the only way someone will tear a quad while playing this game is by hooking his or her gaming system to a treadmill and powering the game by running. Your character also cannot tear a quad in the game, as this would be anticlimactic to say the least.

4. Bury Other Wrestlers

RedditWhile getting buried is a concern in the pro-wrestling world, in the game everything is all handy dandy. If you're playing in Universe mode, you simply cannot stop a wrestler from winning a championship or otherwise competing. The game is designed to allow random people to challenge champions, and you cannot prevent that. Thankfully this also means we won't get a repeat of the Nexus (RIP, Wade Barrett's main event dreams).

3. Get Suspended for Violating the Wellness Policy

WWEImagine at a point in Career Mode, you took a pill in Ibiza, and boom, you've been popped for drugs! Your wrestler will not compete for 30 days (or 60 if it's his second violation) and will have to drop any belt that he holds. If you get busted enough times, you get released, effectively ending your career mode. However WWE will not make light of the severity of getting suspended, so they will not include this in the game.

2. Wrestle as Eva Marie

WWEEva Marie has yet to make her spectacular debut on Smackdown, and it's quite a shame. She is just so unfortunate when it comes to her matches. Most likely when you try to play Eva Marie in the game, her entrance will load, but she will not show up and your opponent will win by default.

1. Rename "Big Show" into "Shig Bow"

WWEBecause I would not stop bothering 2K17 about the ability to rename wrestlers, I received an angrily worded email from them telling me to stop asking them about the issue. For this reason, we can expect that Big Show will remain Big Show and not Shig Bow like he ought to be. Oh well.

 There's always 2K18, guys.

1. WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain

Ah, we have reached the top of the mountain.

This was an incredibly packed game in a number of departments.

The roster was incredible: The Rock, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Triple H, Goldberg, Brock Lesnar and Eddie Guerrero, just to name a few. It was also John Cena’s first of many WWE games appearances.

The game also introduced the elimination chamber match type for the first time. This was huge, as the match had just been implemented on WWE television and was perfect for multiplayer. The match type has remained a staple of WWE games ever since.

The gameplay was simply excellent. It was simulation style, yet moved quickly enough to keep things interesting – much like recent editions of the WWE 2K series. This game also set the standard for today’s diverse movesets with its new grappling system.

Where the game really shined was its season mode, one of the best of all time – and yes, even better than No Mercy’s. The game featured many interesting branching storylines, providing choices that affected the outcomes of different events. While it removed the roaming nature of SmackDown! Shut Your Mouth, you could still run into people backstage and have conversations lead to confrontations.

SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain was the defining WWE game of the PlayStation 2 generation and still holds up today as one of the all-time best in the series.

So this ends our list of the five best WWE games.

2. WWE SmackDown! Shut Your Mouth

So, those who follow WWE programming might be aware that there is a WWE Draft coming up in a few weeks. The Raw and SmackDown rosters will split for the second time in history, with a now-live SmackDown’s move to Tuesday capping off the festivities.

Certainly, this is an exciting time for WWE. Younger gamers might not remember how cool the first ever WWE Draft was way back in 2002, when co-owners Mr. McMahon (SmackDown) and Ric Flair (Raw) alternated picks to fill out their respective rosters. WWE SmackDown! Shut Your Mouth captured that excitement perfectly.

The game’s season mode allowed you to select one of the two owners and make picks on behalf of his brand. Essentially, you had the opportunity to create this new WWE landscape before your very eyes. After the draft’s conclusion, you would progress as normal with your chosen WWE superstar on whichever brand had selected him.

Another awesome season mode feature was the ability to walk around backstage. You could go to the owner’s office and make a request or visit one of many other rooms throughout the arena. You even bought your unlockables at an actual WWEShop vendor! Talk about the full WWE experience.

3. WWE Day of Reckoning

Okay, before we get too much further here, let me drop the bombshell: I have omitted WWE No Mercy from this list. Before you tell me I should never have an opinion again, let me explain why.

No Mercy was a great game, but its greatest strengths were done better elsewhere. Day of Reckoning, for example, had a better gameplay engine - one of the best of any WWE game. It was fluid, fast-paced and exciting, allowing for chaotic multiplayer and still staying true to WWE’s essentials. -- We'll get into the games that outdid No Mercy with branching story modes a little later.

Not to say that Day of Reckoning's story mode was any slouch. It was more linear, but with a very compelling narrative.

In a precursor of sorts to the WWE 2K series’ career mode, you got to create your own superstar and take him from dark matches all the way to the main event. Along the way, you join either Evolution or the New Ministry, and your career takes off from there. Not to give away too much, but this results in a pretty awesome payoff at one of WWE’s biggest stages.

The satisfaction of taking your superstar through the ranks in such a well-written story, coupled with the consistently fun gameplay, makes Day of Reckoning the game most worth playing outside of WWE’s main series.

4. WWE All Stars

Ever wanted to put a WWE Legend against a current WWE Superstar? WWE All-Stars offered you the chance to do just that.

The All-Stars roster featured 15 Legends and 15 Superstars, as well as several downloadable characters, battling it out for supremacy. Players could go for championships held by D-Generation X, Undertaker and Randy Orton in Path of the champions mode. They could also experience some of the ultimate dream matches in fantasy warfare mode.

What made this game special was not only the presence of Superstars of both today and yesteryear, but also the great game modes and the unconventional gameplay style. In many ways, the game exemplified WWE’s status as a larger-than-life form of entertainment.

Instead of looking realistic, as the current WWE 2K series, character movements were deliberately exaggerated. This went doubly for signatures and finishers, which had dramatically cartoonish, yet completely awesome animations.

Many people think of John Cena as WWE’s Superman. Well, in WWE All Stars, 25+ years of Supermen collided. It was a dream for fans who love the company’s theatrical nature.

5. WWE Crush Hour

A unique game that involved WWE Superstars taking part in vehicular warfare, WWE Crush Hour was quite the departure from anything the WWE Universe had seen before.

Ironically, the game was a sort of foreshadowing of the WWE Network, which would come to fruition some eleven years later. The game’s plotline was that chairman, Mr. McMahon had gained control of all television networks and was creating a demolition derby-type show starring superstars.

The Rock, Undertaker, Kane and others had their own custom cars, each of which boasted powerful weapons to take out opponents. In true WWE spirit, cars also had special moves, allowing the competitors to finish one another off just as they would in the ring.

The game had a cool novelty to it, and it was a lot of fun to be able to use well-known characters in a very different context.

WWE 2K17 is set for an October release with a Goldberg pre-order and a cover star to be announced Monday. While we do not know a whole lot about the game just yet, we know that it will be the successor to the excellent WWE 2K16 and will hopefully build further upon that game’s improvements.

Of course, there is a long line of WWE games to come before 2K16. Certain games in both the main series and side series have become timeless, despite huge changes in the WWE since then. This has usually occurred when they have had tremendous features and Superstars that the WWE Universe never gets tired of playing with. Perhaps something unique has separated a game or two from the pack as well.

So, here it is: The five best old school games about beating somebody up and pinning him to the mat. (Or about vehicular chaos ... )

WWE 2K17 Cover Star to Be Revealed This Monday https://www.gameskinny.com/aja5y/wwe-2k17-cover-star-to-be-revealed-this-monday https://www.gameskinny.com/aja5y/wwe-2k17-cover-star-to-be-revealed-this-monday Sat, 25 Jun 2016 14:31:45 -0400 Joe Passantino

According to the official WWE 2K Twitter account, the cover star for the latest in WWE's main gaming series, 2K17, will be revealed on Monday, June 27.

As seen above, John Cena appears in the tweet doing his signature military salute and "You Can't See Me" taunt. Cena has already been confirmed for the game, and he could be the cover star. Of course, his appearance in the tweet does not guarantee that that will be the case. Cena previously starred on the cover of WWE 2K15 as well as on several WWE SmackDown vs. Raw covers before the series changed its name in 2011.

Other recent cover stars have included "Stone Cold" Steve Austin on last year's edition and The Rock on WWE 2K14.

WWE 2K17 will be available in October for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game is currently available for pre-order through the 2K Store and WWEShop, as well as other outlets.

Via the painting work of Rob Schamberger, 2K has confirmed three new characters for WWE 2K17: 15-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena, WWE Hall of Famer Ultimate Warrior and former NXT Women's Champion Sasha Banks.

Sasha will make her first appearance in a WWE console game, following a stellar in-ring year. It remains to be seen if gamers will be able to recreate her acclaimed matches with Bayley, but Sasha fans will likely be excited to play as The Boss for the first time.

Cena, on the other hand, has appeared in every main series WWE game since 2003's WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain. His inclusion comes as no surprise, but it would be difficult to argue that the game would be incomplete without WWE's franchise Superstar.

Warrior was the pre-order bonus in WWE 2K14, shortly before his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014. He tragically passed away shortly thereafter, but his legacy will live on through the newest WWE 2K offering.

Schamberger will continue to paint members of the roster as E3 week progresses. WWE 2K17 will be available in October for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Which of the new additions are you most excited to play as? Let us know in the comments below!

Members of the WWE Universe are currently preparing to learn more about WWE 2K17 at E3 and enjoy WWE Money in the Bank on June 19. They now have another upcoming treat, courtesy of Xbox and 2K. According to the Xbox Wire, Xbox Live Gold members can play WWE 2K16 for free on Xbox One from June 16 to June 19.

The game will also be available for a "special promotional price" during the week after the free period concludes.

WWE 2K16 features a 2K Showcase mode based on the career of cover Superstar "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. Players have the opportunity to experience Austin's classic matches with Mr. McMahon, Bret "The Hitman" Hart and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, among others. The game also features five different playable editions of Austin, spanning his time in ECW, WCW and WWE.

Other features include an updated MyCareer mode, as well as new creation tools, which allow players to create female Superstars, arenas, shows and championships.

The WWE 2K Website has announced a unique method of revealing WWE 2K17 roster members. At this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, WWE portrait artist Rob Schamberger will paint members of the in-game roster at the 2K booth. Schamberger will be painting the WWE Superstars live during all three days of E3, which will run from June 14 to 16.

Schamberger has been crafting WWE paintings for quite some time, with his work currently available on both WWEShop and WWE Auction. He also shows the process of painting Superstars in his regular WWE YouTube series, Canvas 2 Canvas.

So far, the only Superstar to be confirmed for the game is Goldberg, revealed via a trailer during last week's edition of WWE Monday Night Raw. Those who pre-order the game will receive Goldberg as an exclusive bonus.

WWE 2K17 will be available in October for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Which Superstars do you hope to see Schamberger paint, signaling their inclusion in WWE 2K17? Let us know in the comments below!

Goldberg to Appear in WWE 2K17 as Pre-order Bonus https://www.gameskinny.com/hlgqm/goldberg-to-appear-in-wwe-2k17-as-pre-order-bonus https://www.gameskinny.com/hlgqm/goldberg-to-appear-in-wwe-2k17-as-pre-order-bonus Tue, 31 May 2016 16:17:59 -0400 Joe Passantino

WWE and 2K have announced that WWE and WCW legend Goldberg will appear in WWE 2K17 as a pre-order bonus.

According to the WWE 2K website, pre-ordering the game will grant gamers two playable editions of the Superstar. These include a WWE edition of Goldberg with black and white shorts and a WCW edition with black tights. Additionally, gamers who pre-order will receive access to two WCW arenas: WCW Monday Nitro and Halloween Havoc.

The announcement came in the form of a trailer that served as a conclusion to the social media #Hatch campaign. After teases on WWE's Twitter account that something big would be "unleashed" on May 30, the video announcement aired that night during WWE Monday Night Raw. True to form, it features the hatch exploding to reveal Goldberg himself, who then leaves the scene with a team of park rangers.

Notably, a reflection of Brock Lesnar's Suplex City logo appears in the window of a police vehicle at the end of the trailer. This has led to speculation regarding what the former WWE World Heavyweight and UFC Heavyweight Champion's role is in the announcement.

Goldberg's last WWE 2K appearance came in WWE 2K14, and coincidentally enough, Lesnar was involved. The WrestleMania XX match between the two was part of the game's 30 Years of WrestleMania mode.

Goldberg joins a prestigious list of pre-order stars in the WWE 2K series, one that has included Sting, Ultimate Warrior and The Rock in prior years.

WWE 2K17 is scheduled for release in October for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

There is currently no cover WWE Superstar for the game, with the display image consisting of the game's logo against a red light-filled background. Past cover Superstars for 2K Sports editions of the series have included "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, John Cena and The Rock.

5 features that need to make a comeback in WWE 2K17 https://www.gameskinny.com/e50cs/5-features-that-need-to-make-a-comeback-in-wwe-2k17 https://www.gameskinny.com/e50cs/5-features-that-need-to-make-a-comeback-in-wwe-2k17 Thu, 28 Jan 2016 03:18:46 -0500 Alex Chin

Do you agree or disagree with this list? What would you like to see in WWE 2K17? Let us know in the comments below!

1. Old-School Story Mode

As previously mentioned, WWE 2K16 made waves with its Steve Austin tribute. Sadly however, these nostalgic modes have caused us to overlook the actual career mode and allowed 2K to get away with giving us a dull experience. In other words, these career slices have replaced a proper story mode.

To fix this issue, 2K needs to look back to early WWE games like Shut Your Mouth or Here Comes the Pain. In them, players could play as any character on the roster--not just a created superstar. Stories varied depending on the characters role, the decisions you made, and how you performed in your matches.

It's funny to imagine WWE games from ten years ago having more variety in career mode. But that's the reality here. Players should be able to choose any superstar and take them through a career. They did it ten years ago, I don't see why it can't be done again.

2. Create-A-Finisher

2K Games did away with Create-A-Finisher for WWE 2K16. The system was clearly flawed due to difficulties with physics, so custom finishers didn't always look clean and realistic. But is that enough to warrant cutting it out completely?

No. Regardless of its flaws, people had a lot of fun with it. Like the backstage matches, it allowed players to be creative. And that's what really matters.

2K Games simply needs to develop the mode further. Edit it, assure it works, and please bring it back for 2K17.

3. General Manager Mode

Introduced in Smackdown vs. Raw 2006, General Manager mode was a surprisingly fun addition to the series. Players took control of a faction, managed the roster, and tried to beat out competitors in ratings.

The mode is commonly compared to Extreme Warfare Revenge, a popular text-based wrestling business simulation. The mode begged for expansion, but it only lasted two games, cut out in time for Smackdown vs Raw 2008

WWE has since introduced Universe Mode, but many fans say it's a poor substitute. It's also recently experienced a share of problems, such as data corruption. Your move, 2K Games.

4. Multiple Backstage Arenas

Anyone who has played WWE Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain remembers its hardcore mode. Players had the freedom to take the fight in 5 different stages. Backstage. In the parking lot. Outside on the streets. Who could forget driving The Undertaker's motorcycle, slamming your opponent against the hood of a car, or frog splashing them from the ledge of a building? It was absolute madness.

But the environments in recent games have been seriously lacking. Starting with its successor, WWE Smackdown vs. Raw, backstage fights began to take place in one confined space. Gone is the freedom and creativity that made it so much fun to begin with.

The backstage match speaks to the overall direction that the WWE series has taken--less arcade and more simulation. While one is not better than the other, I think there needs to be a balance between the two. Multiple backstage arenas would make a fantastic addition to WWE 2K17.

5. More In-Game Unlockables

Back since the early days of WWF No Mercy, unlockables were aplenty. Legends, arenas, costumes, loading screens -- you name it. Players earned in-game currency and could use it to work towards these items. It was exciting to browse the catalogues, and felt rewarding to make purchases.

Unlockables never died, but this system has. More recently, players earn unlockables by simply playing through the game's modes. Though this encourages players to explore all aspects of the game, it is far less rewarding when you're forced to play through something you have no interest in.

On top of this, with developers trying to maximize profits, in-game unlockables just don't make as much sense as they once did. Why put something on a disc, when you can just release it a month later as DLC?

It's a shame. Give the fans what they want and bring back the incentives. I mean, who wouldn't want a Lita loading screen?

WWE 2K16 was, in many ways, a success. It improved on its predecessor, offering over one hundred playable superstars on its roster, and new gameplay mechanics like the reversal system. The game also let players relive classic moments in Steve Austin's career, which proved to be a popular addition.

But the game was far from perfect. Some people disliked the gameplay changes, opting for a more arcade experience. Character models were inconsistent, and career mode was uninspired.

The WWE games continue to improve each year and perhaps one day, it will reach the acclaim once held with earlier titles. With WWE 2K17 expected to release later this year, here are 5 features that need to return to the franchise.
