Defiance – DLC 2 At PAX Prime

Trion Reveals Defiance's DLC 2 At PAX on Twitch

Today at PAX, Trion showed us some alpha testing of the next DLC for Defiance. At the moment there is no official name so it is being called DLC 2. The big reveal just ended and Trion showed off some pretty neat stuff.

 Instanced Arkfalls

In DLC 2, we will be seeing drastic changes in Arkfalls. No longer will we be running around a field killing hellbugs while useless junk falls from the sky. The arkfalls have been overhauled to look a lot more like the ones you see on the show. The game’s Arkfalls were previously dull and boring, but to spice that up they are adding ships with interiors to explore. These Arkfall interiors will be separate instances, meaning only about 16 people will be able to be in the interior at a time. Making Arkfalls separate instances sounds like a great idea, but I can imagine it causing as much harm as good. We will just have to wait and see how they implement it.

 Stims

The new DLC will see the addition of stims. Each stim will have a different ability, but you will only be able to equip one at a time. The stim shown in the demo was a one shot heal, which sounds amazingly useful. There is no telling what the range of stim abilities will be, but in the video they did say that stims would be like a one shot ego power.

 Spikes

We will be seeing new abilities known as Spikes. These spikes will be placed on the ground and grant a specific ability to allies within a certain area. We didn’t get a lot of info on the spikes but in the video they used a ammo spike. The ammo spike maxed out the ammo of anyone in the highlighted area around it. Hopefully we will be seeing more about these in the coming weeks.

 Limited Grenades

The idea of limiting grenades makes sense but also makes me worry. I like how the reuseable grenades work in Defiance. Sometimes I run out of ammo and I have the comfort of knowing that I can always throw a grenade. Though I can see how limiting grenades would make the game a little more real and vary player’s play style a little bit. In the video we see the player has about 15 or 16 grenades, so at least we can carry more than one or two at a time.

 Overall

The new additions all look amazing and I am super excited to see what they have for us next. Defiance‘s next big DLC has no release date or even a name yet but I am sure we will be seeing it a lot sooner than the first one. Don’t forget to check back tomorrow because Trion is doing an ask us anything segment at 1PM PDT Saturday 31st.
