During a Q&A at the GaymerX, Bioware revealed an interesting piece of info on the relationships systems in their games. It’s been known that in popular games from Bioware like Mass Effect 3 that players have the option of a lesbian or gay relationship, or straight should they choose to do so. However, during the convention Bioware claimed there were a couple other relationship paths that they were interested in taking as well.
Specifically, Bioware mentioned that having multiple affairs at one time was an option they were wanting to add into their Dragon Age and Mass Effect franchises. However, at the panel Bioware claimed that the only reason they were unable to do so, was due to technical limitations by their games.
“It’s not something we have a problem with on any level beyond the (computer) scripting has broken us every time we’ve tried.”

Polyamorous relationships are not the only thing that Bioware is looking into. They have even expressed interest in moving into asexual relationships in their future games as well. This coupled with the polyamorous relationships may very likely start appearing in future Bioware games now that scripting these types of relationships is a viable option for Bioware.
Not only is Bioware adding more relationship paths, but they plan to add a lot more depth to the relationships as well. This is in hopes for their games to add more realism to the relationships. David Gaider, Dragon Age‘s lead writer, has said that he intends on making relationships have a much higher probability that they will fail. Gaider added, “You could actually fail a romance and then you’d actually need to work a little harder to get through it, and it’s not just saying, ‘Do you like me?’ Okay, that means we’re going to start the romance and we’re automatically going to get to the end. That is something we’ve considered as well.”
