With books, equipment, and wand in hand, it’s time to commence your journey in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery for iOS and Android devices. You’ll begin your wizarding journey in Year One by selecting — or “hoping for” — one of the four magical houses from the Harry Potter universe during the Sorting Ceremony in Chapter 2.

Of course, you’ll have your pick of:

  • Gryffindor: Brave and chivalrous.
  • Hufflepuff: Kind and diligent.
  • Ravenclaw: Witty and wise.
  • Slytherin: Cunning and ambitious.

Each house has produced an impressive roster of talented witches and wizards over the years, and you can take your place among their ranks by earning points to capture the coveted House Cup at the end of the year. Belonging to the house with the most points will earn you 100x Gems, the currency used to replenish energy in Hogwarts Mystery.

Easy Tips for Getting House Points

Professor Dumbledore vaguely indicates that triumphs will earn players points for their respective house; however, triumphs, in terms of point accumulation, can be defined as:

  1. Doing well during lessons, such as answering questions correctly and performing successful demonstrations
  2. Completing main storyline quests
  3. Making dialog choices that uphold the values of your house

The first +10 points can be earned by completing Professor Flitwick’s Charms Lesson, where you will learn your first spell: Lumos – a light-casting ability. Unfortunately, these points will be negated by Professor Snape when a fellow student sabotages your Cure for Boils Potion.

Losing Points — And Getting Them Back

When your actions result in points lost for your house, not only will disappointment settle in, but you will garner the discontent of your fellow house members. The game’s premise already establishes you as the odd and troublesome witch or wizard, so it is important to follow the rules, display a reasonable degree of manners, and exhibit the qualities of your house to avoid getting in trouble.

House points can be lost by failing to meet a professor’s expectations during a lesson or engaging in dialog decisions that result in disrespect or destruction.

Getting them back isn’t really an option — outside of just doing better in the next set of challenges or answering correctly in the next set of dialog options. So be careful each time you have an interaction so that you make sure to get the most House Points out of every encounter.

Viewing Your House’s Score

You can track your house’s progress over the course of the year by selecting your Character Portrait from the upper left-hand corner of the screen. Your standing — first, second, third, or fourth — will be displayed under your House Crest, along with the points you’ve contributed.

You can also select Rank to view the Hogwarts House Points Counter, which provides information on rewards and leaderboard standings.
