Wizards of the Coast released a separate set of commander cards for Innistrad: Midnight Hunt expansion in Magic: The Gathering. Thus providing commander players with some exclusive tools.
This list will focus on the best new commander cards from Innistrad: Midnight Hunt set that has some fantastic supporters for already established archetypes, as well as, exciting new combo pieces.
Many cards in Innistrad: Midnight Hunt designed for commander cater specifically to multiplayer crowds, which adds a nice dynamic to this good old format. Check out all these 15 best commander cards right here.
This is the card you want for your Krark-Clan Ironworks commander deck. Moonsilver Key can quickly fetch this artifact or Phyrexian Altar, which is used in many Eggs builds.
Basically, it can fetch plenty of combo pieces, but it could just serve as a simple ramp piece that gets you Sol Ring or Mana Crypt, and it's cheap enough to justify its place in your deck.
Tutors are always popular amongst EDH crowds and this one is colorless, which is extra beneficial.
Here is a counterspell on a stick with protection for your non-creature spells when flipped.
This could be a great addition to Kraum, Ludevic's Opus decks that can effectively utilize the Malevolent Hermit's flipside. Another possibility is Emry, Lurker of the Loch, which can mill it and cast it for the Disturb cost from the graveyard.
You can use these interactions to protect your combos and get an unexpected advantage for a relatively low cost.
Once again the commander players get an artifact and enchantment removal in white color. On top of that, it's a decent creature that has Flash.
It will be mainly used in Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle and Winota, Joiner of Forces, which can cast Cathar Commando using her ability, since it's also a human.
You can utilize its Flash ability to a great extent against such enchantments like Underworld Breach that requires fast reaction.
Lord of the Forsaken
This creature has so many upsides it's hard to believe that it's not legendary. Anyhow, the best ability is probably the ramp one that allows you to exchange life for mana. Sure, you can use it to cast spells only from your graveyard, but in specific decks it works like a charm.
He can also fill up your graveyard with creatures. You could use it to cast Karador, Ghost Chieftain for potentially only three mana, and then use it to recast all the sacrificed creatures back onto the battlefield.
Just like Caustic Caterpillar, this is a very fine artifact and enchantment removal with slightly higher stats, but also higher mana cost.
However, the Nightbound side of this card is where things get really interesting, as you get to repeatedly destroy your opponent's artifacts and enchantments when attacking. In this way, you can remove all of their mana rocks and basically leave them with no extra ramp to play.
You can use it in Yisan, the Wanderer Bard decks, where you can quickly fetch for it at the moment of need.
Commander players have found a new excellent combo for their graveyard decks using Old Stickfingers:
- Use Old Stickfingers ability to put Razaketh, the Foulblooded and Witherbloom Apprentice into your graveyard
- Cast Reanimate to bring back Razaketh, the Foulblooded
- Sacrifice Old Stickfingers to get Life // Death
- Cast Life side and fetch for Lion's Eye Diamond
- Crack Lion's Eye Diamond for three green mana
- Fetch for Chatterstorm and cast it for five Squirrel tokens
- Sacrifice two tokens to get Lotus Petal and Dark Ritual
- Sacrifice two more tokens to get Unearth and Chain of Smog
- Use Unearth to bring back Witherbloom Apprentice
- Cast Chain of Smog, targeting yourself
Rinse and repeat the last step until you achieve lethal damage.
This little spell can do some amazing things with Orvar, the All-Form commander. You can quickly make many tokens of the creatures you control and recast them next turn.
It can also be used to a great extent with mutate creatures such as Lore Drakkis and Vadrok, Apex of Thunder by resetting their mutate piles, and repeating the triggered abilities over again.
Lastly, bounce Dockside Extortionist to create more treasure tokens where applicable.
Turn the Earth
This is a very peculiar graveyard hate card, but it is undoubtedly very effective. It also has Flashback, which makes it a recurring effect that can be great against decks that run Underworld Breach.
It makes your opponent shuffle their library, which can be used really well against Vampiric Tutor. When they think that the card they want stays on top of their library, you make them shuffle it back into the unknown.
Turn the Earth is a great piece to have alongside Endurance, so you get to have a few disruption tools under your sleeve.
Saryth, the Viper's Fang
Saryth can be well partnered with Walking Ballista. You can give it Deathtouch and use it to kill the biggest threats on board, and untap it to make it immune against removal spells.
He can also be used to untap one of your big lands, such as Gaea's Cradle. Then you can play Shalai, Voice of Plenty, sink all that extra mana into buffing your creatures, and attack with tons of power.
When you are looking for a way to discard all your cards and fill up your graveyard, then Moonveil Regent will do the job.
It can activate all your cards with Madness or just give that quick push for the Underworld Breach. In either case, Moonveil Regent will serve you better than just a mere engine.
It's got a solid body, and when it dies it can take another one of opponent's creatures along the way.
Adeline, Resplendent Cathar
Even if you can't make Adeline work on its own as a commander, you can always add it to the Winota, Joiner of Forces deck and watch it obliterate the battlefield.
The last ability is especially useful in multiplayer matches. The more opponents you have, the bigger number of tokens you can produce. If it's 4-player commander, then you get three tokens and the power of Adeline equals four.
If your creatures survive, then each turn her damage power just keeps growing!
Lier, Disciple of the Drowned
What we have here is probably the finest piece of commander card for utilizing such spells like High Tide, which doubles all your blue mana, and Time Spiral that untaps your lands and allows you to ramp once again.
The protection against counterspells is also a huge upside, so expect to see plenty of commander decks comboing off with Lier this season. Just be aware of the fact that it also influences the opponent's spells, which also can't be countered.
Here is another Vampiric Tutor disruption spell that can mingle with your opponent's top cards of the library.
Being able to cast one of them is just a cute bonus, but what you really want is to disrupt their combos and other power plays.
It can also be repeatedly duplicated using Isochron Scepter, which makes it almost impossible for your opponents to put anything significant on top of their libraries.
Slogurk, the Overslime
Slogurk has plenty of text, which makes it a very niche commander card. But in that niche it can do some cool tricks.
Consider combining it with Hermit Druid that can mill lots of lands and make Slogurk grow into a real beast.
Then you can use Slogurk to bring back Cavern of Souls to your hand, play it, and make your Thassa's Oracle combo uncounterable.
The Meathook Massacre
Lastly, here is a very interesting removal enchantment that also damages your opponents.
You can make it work in any token heavy deck, sacrifice them all and watch all of your opponents die at once.
It can be compared to Blood Artist, but in this case you don't need any additional sacrifice mechanics. It's already included in The Meathook Massacre.
