What Could Naughty Dog Be Working On for PlayStation 4? It Isn’t The Last of Us

If it won't be The Last of Us, what might Naughty Dog's first PS4 game be?

Word came out a couple of weeks ago that Naughty Dog was not planning to bring their PlayStation 3 masterpiece, The Last of Us, to PlayStation 4. We haven’t heard any news yet about a new Uncharted game, so it begs the question: what are they working on as their first game for the PS4?

Many people were hoping that The Last of Us would get a port-up to the PS4 to help show off the capabilities of the new system, but Naughty Dog community strategist Eric Monacelli said on Twitter, “We have no plans to do that.”

The Silence of the Dog

So if that’s not an option, many fans are surely clamoring for news about Uncharted 4, which would have been a great hook for buying a PlayStation 4 if it could have been available at launch. But not one word has been uttered about the game, which means it’s either not even close to being a reality, or it’s about to be dropped on us in a major way.

But let’s assume for the sake of this article that there is no Uncharted game coming anytime soon. What else might Naughty Dog have up their sleeves that would serve as a worthy addition to the PlayStation 4 lineup? Perhaps they are putting together something completely new to really show off what they, and the PS4 hardware are capable of. It probably would be a good idea to stick fairly close to what they do best, which seems to be adventure-based games. Uncharted and The Last of Us are exciting, cinematic, dramatic experiences, so it would make sense to do this again.

This Is Definitely the Game You’re Looking For

For some reason I keep coming back to a kind of game that would be similar to Uncharted. Something where you have to fight through enemies, brave the elements, and defy the odds in search of a great treasure. This kind of game is pretty inviting to even non-hardcore gamers, so it would make sense to throw a game together like this to help introduce the studio to the next generation and hopefully sell even more PS4s.

It would have to have enough appeal that even the people who generally only buy consoles for Call of Duty or sports games would even consider getting it. Uncharted carries a lot of weight, even with non-hardcore gamers, but maybe a game set in a futuristic sci-fi setting would do well. Something like a modern-day Star Wars perhaps. It could feature a big cast of interesting characters, a lot of sci-fi space-flying, laser-shooting action, with a big story and great music. Sort of an Indiana Jones/Star Wars mash-up. I don’t know about you, but I’m sold!

We’ll have to wait and see what Naughty Dog is up to, but whatever they have up their sleeves, it will most likely be something big. They haven’t become one of the biggest studios in gaming over the last few years by releasing mediocre games. The future of the PlayStation 4 is looking bright.
