Has Doom 4 Clawed its way out of Development Hell?

First person shooter has survived the horror of development hell!
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

Bethesda’s Pete Hinds and id Software’s Tim Willits have spoke to IGN regarding the troubles plaguing Doom 4. The development was scrapped earlier this year for Doom 4 despite the fact it was unofficially announced through job ads back in 2008; it has been restarted for (what we can guess is) the next gen consoles market.

Willits told IGN that while the game didn’t have any specific issues but it was the mere personality and feel of the game that was wrong:

“Every game has a soul. Every game has a spirit….. And [Doom] did not have the spirit, it did not have the soul, it didn’t have a personality. It had a bit of schizophrenia, a little bit of an identity crisis.”

However reports have circulated of mismanagement and lack of communication within the studio.

Following reports of Bethesda’s Rage 2 cancellation, the development team that have been otherwise occupied are now free to dedicate their time to Doom 4 using the id Tech 5 engine.

One can only hope that Bethesda and id Software manage to pull themselves together, no game deserves to be sidelined for 5 years.
