Master Chief Actor: Halo Infinite “Ready to Go for Next Spring”

Master Chief's mocap actor says Halo Infinite's release date could be sooner than we thought, but don't hope too hard just yet.

The Halo Infinite release date might be sooner rather than later, if Bruce Thomas, Master Chief’s motion capture actor, is correct in his estimation of the game’s launch window.

Speaking on Dan Allen Gaming, Thomas said “as far as I know, it’s [Halo Infinite] in the can, ready to go for next spring.” He said mocap filming is finished, though there’s a chance more filming might be needed in the coming months.

Definitive as that sounds, it should still be taken with a big ol’ grain of salt. Motion capture is an important part of the development process, yes. But it’s also not the end of the process. There’s still quality control and potential bug fixes, not to mention the possibility of re-shoots, as Thomas also said.

Earlier in 2020, 343 announced it was delaying Halo Infinite indefinitely to help ensure top quality for the final product.

Rumors suggested optimizing the game for Xbox Series X and Xbox One caused the delay. While 343 didn’t provide a reason for the decision, Xbox leaker Sponger said Halo Infinite might end up as an Xbox Series X exclusive.

Either way, whether Halo Infinite releases in Spring 2021 or not, 343 intends it as a bridge in the series, continuing the story following the Cortana incident, but in a way accessible for newcomers to the series. Halo Infinite also boasts the biggest map so far in the series, stuffed full of secrets and gear to uncover. Like all first-party Xbox games, Halo Infinite will head to Game Pass for Xbox and PC immediately when it launches.

Meanwhile, Halo 4 was recently added to Game Pass, bringing the entire Master Chief Collection to Xbox’s subscription service for the first time.
