Rumor: New Ratchet and Clank Could be PS5 Launch Title

The Loveable Lombax might be making a return as one of the PS5's debut titles.

A new rumor from former IGN editor Colin Moriarty suggests Insomniac Games will be releasing a brand-new Ratchet and Clank title. That’s nice on its own, but the other half of the rumor is that this new Ratchet and Clank game will be a PlayStation 5 launch title.

Moriarty made the statement in a recent episode of his podcast Sacred Symbols+, which was picked up by ComicBook.com. He also claimed the space adventurers’ next title would launch before Insomniac’s follow-up to the smash-hit Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Of course, rumors are just rumors, and this latest one might not be completely accurate. If it is true, though, it would be an interesting move from Sony. The PlayStation 4’s launch lineup was famously lacking many big Sony titles and relied almost exclusively on third-party games.

A new Ratchet and Clank game would be a flagship title in a major franchise that’s both owned by Sony and hasn’t had a new release in four years. It would also show that Sony has a fairly broad view of what it considers the “hardcore gamers” that will be the PS5’s main audience.

Right now, though, no one really knows what the PS5 launch window will bring us, other than Godfall — which we still haven’t gotten a proper look at yet — and probably some cross-generation titles. Hopefully, we’ll hear some news this month in a reveal event or new State of Play. While we’re at it, let’s go ahead and hope for that rumored new Ape Escape game as well.

Either way, stay tuned to GameSkinny for more PlayStation 5 news as it develops.
