Ubisoft and Netflix Gear Up for a Splinter Cell Anime

Netflix and Ubisoft are reportedly working on a Splinter Cell anime series, with more than one season already planned.

According to an exclusive Variety report, Netflix and Ubisoft are working on a Splinter Cell series. Don’t expect gritty realism or Michael Fassbender front and center, though. This is a Splinter Cell anime series, written and produced by Derek Kolstad of John Wick fame.

Variety’s sources claim there are two seasons of the Splinter Cell anime planned, for a total of 16 episodes.

Variety didn’t disclose its sources. Still, Variety’s had plenty of video game and game adaptation scoops in the past, like the Fallout series announcement.

As the report mentions, this isn’t the first time Ubisoft’s tried adapting one of its franchises, although we sincerely hope the Splinter Cell series is better than the Assassin’s Creed movie Fassbender starred in. At the very least, it’s a sign Ubisoft hasn’t completely abandoned Splinter Cell, even though it’s been seven years since Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist released.

Dark and gritty games getting anime adaptations isn’t wholly unprecedented either. During June’s Night City Wire event, CD Projekt Red announced Cyberpunk 2077 is getting its own anime series soon. And, of course, there’s Netflix’s Castlevania series, which is heading into its fourth season
