Xbox One Sells Over One Million Consoles in 24 Hours

Following the PlayStation 4's lead, the Xbox One has also sold over one million consoles in its first twenty-four hours.

The next-gen console war between the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One is still going strong. The Xbox One has only been out for twenty-four hours, but over one million consoles have already been sold. This number does not include sales to retailers, just consumers. Similarly, the PlayStation 4 hit the one million console milestone in the twenty-four hours following its release on November 15th.

These numbers are not surprising when one considers the sheer amount of hype and press that the consoles received. Look at the launch event for the Xbox One. Microsoft took over Time Square, put on a concert, gave away freebies, signed autographs, and even set off fireworks at Microsoft Campus. It was an impressive show, to say the least.

With Microsoft’s announcement about hitting the one million console mark, they also released some other numbers related to the Xbox One’s first twenty-four hours of life:

  • Over 60 million zombies have been killed in “Dead Rising 3”
  • Over 3.6 million miles driven in “Forza Motorsport 5″
  • Over 7.1 million combos in “Killer Instinct”
  • Over 8.5 million enemies defeated in “Ryse: Son of Rome”

It’s pretty crazy, right? But I guess with so many people taking off work and school (maybe with the help of the Xbox One doctor’s note), it makes sense. One thing is for sure: the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are both starting with impressive momentum.
