Titanfall Guide: 5 Strategies You May Not Know

You may have played a lot of Titanfall but you may not know about these handy tips for success!

Titanfall makes it easy to figure out how to play by providing a solid tutorial mode and easy to learn controls. However, there are a few things that aren’t apparent to all of us pilots. Here are five things you may not have noticed in Titanfall.

1. It’s better to be out of a Titan in Last Titan Standing.

In the Last Titan Standing mode, your team’s task is to eliminate the opposing team’s Titans first without the safety of a respawn. At first glance, it seems obvious that you should stay in your Titan so that you have direct control of the way your Titan moves. However, since the aim is being the fastest Titan killer on the field, it is more beneficial to put your Titan on follow mode if you equip yourself right.

One of the best items to have are the shock grenades. This greatly affects the optics of enemy Titans which make it harder for enemy pilots to see. During a battle, use your shock grenades and your anti-Titan weapon while you protect your Titan. This will cause any enemy pilot controlled Titans to panic and try to get out of the situation. Being out of your Titan also allows you to stay on the rooftops and provide crucial information on the whereabouts of the enemy team.

2. You can trap people into a Nuclear Explosion without them knowing.

One of the best Titan death abilities is the Nuclear Explosion. When your Titan is doomed, you can activate the eject sequence to detonate a powerful blast that will destroy enemy Titans and pilots within the vicinity. However, knowing when to eject is a challenge. Luckily, you can trap people within the explosion area by using your electric fog.

Just before you eject, pop the electric smoke which immediately starts to damage enemies. If timed right, the opposing pilot won’t see the nuke going off until it is too late because the smoke will cover the initial lens flare for a brief second. That may not sound like much, but that extra second for the enemy to realize you’ve gone nuclear is usually enough to catch them off guard.

3. You can use electric smoke for rodeo pilots.

One of the most dangerous situations for any pilot is to have an enemy pilot hitching a ride on the back of your Titan. The Titan usually responds by saying something like “Enemy pilot on hull. Recommend disembark and engage.” You don’t have to do this. All you have to do is pop your electric smoke and stand in it for a few seconds. This will almost guarantee a pilot kill and will save you from having to exit your Titan in the middle of a battle.

4. You can eject anytime you want.

Most pilots will wait until their Titan is about to explode before ejecting and escaping the blast. While this is viable in most situations, sometimes you need to get the surprise on the enemy. What most do not realize is that you can eject from your Titan any time you please by pressing the (PC= ‘X’ button or Xbox One = D-pad UP) by default and then pressing your eject button. This is especially useful in Attrition when you can afford to lose a Titan to try to score some last-minute points to win the match. Just equip the Nuclear Explosion death ability and take the enemy by surprise.

5. You can go the entire game without a single pilot kill and still be helpful

Titanfall has a large amount of grunts in each match. These are equal to minions in League of Legends. Their sole purpose for being alive is to die horrible deaths at the hands of pilots. Not only do they reduce the build time to get your Titan on the ground, they also give points to your team’s attrition score when they die.

If you don’t like the idea of facing other enemy pilots and would rather spend the game grinding for your Titan or providing very helpful score progression, then you can go on a killing spree with grunts. In fact, doing so will allow your team to focus on where enemy pilots are, and not having to waste ammo on cannon fodder.  You can feel good about contributing to the team’s score, and your team can easily find the enemy pilots. It’s a win-win.
