Everyone who has played TERA — whether on and off — between the CBT and now has a story to tell.

World PVP battles, mountain goating up seemingly impassable terrain, triumphant victories against all odds, and just sitting around a campfire listening to the sound of your irritating Elin party members dancing in a line. In the end, we all hate each other and the game the same.

Honestly, it’s not that bad.

There are some moments where I truly hate TERA (Nexus lag), but there are other times where I’m glad I joined the playerbase back in beta and came back to it after a 5 month hiatus (large-scale GvG battles in CBT; fun with friends through my entire time playing).

It’s not a particularly deep game, and there isn’t much to do other than rush to 60 and grind once you get there. The people you meet in-game are great, though. I’m not talking about global chat (which is terrible), but the people you meet just trying to level or sitting around in town.

I’ve met a lot of good people playing TERA, and I know I’ll find even more. Sure, we’re going to be overrun by Brazilians and Chinese gold farmers. But you know what? As long as I can keep juking chumps with my priest and having fun with friends, I don’t care.

You can point to PKers and the general special-edness of global chat as examples of the game’s community being garbage, but I really and truly have met some wonderful people during my time playing. I know I will meet even more once Rising launches, even if they don’t speak the best English.

To the future!

En Masse looks like they’re trying with the Rising patch, and I really hope they pull it off well. Over the past year I’ve lost a of of faith in the company and even feel that the pay-to-play period was a sort of open beta for them. In a way, I feel ripped off.

In the end of it all, I will continue to play and I will continue to support En Masse. I paid $15 to continue playing through the weekend and I don’t regret it one bit. TERA isn’t for everyone, but the people playing really make the game. I can deal with a little disappointment to get a lot of fun and fond memories.

It’s been fun, those of you who have played with me up until now. I hope to see you in TERA: Rising! Buckle down, because it’s time to see if the maintenance takes longer than the planned 24 hours.
