New Gigantamax Pokemon Include Fat Pikachu, Long Meowth, and Gen I Classics

The Pokemon Company shows off a handful of new Gigantamax Pokemon in a brand-new Pokemon Sword and Shield trailer.

The Pokemon Company dropped a new trailer for Pokemon Sword and Shield this morning, showing off a handful of Pokemon who’ll get the rare ability to Gigantamax.

If you missed it before, Gigantamax is going a step farther than Dynamaxing, boosting stats and changing moves of a Pokemon’s primary type to special Gigantamax moves. These are like Z-Moves from Sun and Moon, but without the little jig trainers had to do to pull them off.

The new forms are all from Gen I, but that doesn’t rule out Pokemon from other generations getting the ability, too.

Gigantamax Pikachu

Gigantamax Pikachu brings back the classic Chonky-chu form from Red and Blue and turns all its Electric attacks to G-Max Volt Crash. This Gigantamax move deals heavy damage and paralyzes all enemy Pokemon, even Ground types.

However, it seems not every Pikachu will have the ability to Gigantamax. Those who import save data from Pokemon Let’s GO Pikachu! will receive a special Gigantamax-able Pikachu.

Gigantamax Eevee

The same condition applies for Gigantamax Eevee; it’s only obtainable as a special Pokemon distributed to those who import save data from Pokemon Let’s GO Eevee.

This Eevee is floofier than ever, so much so that its special move, G-Max Cuddle, manages to infatuate all Pokemon of the opposite gender, even while it pummels them with death cuddles.

Gigantamax Charizard

Charizard gets yet another new form in Sword and Shield, but it retains its usual Fire/Flying type. There’s no caveat for getting Charizard to Gigantamax, so it would appear any Charizard will have that ability.

Its special G-Max move is Wildfire, which continues to damage all non-Fire types for four turns after the initial attack.

Gigantamax Meowth

Meowth is getting another makeover for the new generation, but this time around, it’s less Garfield and more… something else.

Meowth stretches to a whopping 108′ 3″ in its Gigantamax form and sees its normal type moves transform into G-Max Gold Rush. Like Pay Day, Gold Rush deals damage and makes money magically appear from nothing.

Note Gigantamax Meowth is only available as a special Mystery Gift distribution Pokemon for those who purchase Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield before January 15, 2020.

Gigantamax Butterfree

Poor Butterfree was completely ignored in the Mega Evolution craze, but it’s getting some love in Galar with its Gigantamax form. All of Gigantamax Butterfree’s Bug-type moves will transform into G-Max Befuddle, which harms opponents and randomly inflicts sleep, poison, or paralyze.

This new info drop comes after the recent reveal of Shield-exclusive Galarian Ponyta and Sword-only Sirfetch’d.

We’re officially less than a month away from the November 15 launch date, but with only a handful of other new Pokemon shown off so far, and no teases at all about the Galarian starter evolutions, it seems Galar is going to be full of surprises all around.
