5-Minute Guides: Combat Tips for Mini DayZ

This 5-minute read will give you a few tips for surviving the unforgiving enemies of Mini DayZ.

My first memories of DayZ go back to the ARMA II mod. Countless hours were spent looting and getting geared up to duke it out in Cherno or Elektro with my friends. Anymore, I find myself on the go and have been getting more and more into mobile gaming, so I was pretty excited to find out about Mini DayZ — a 2D survival game with some RPG elements.

Mini DayZ has a number of differences from the original game, however, and so I decided to write a few mini guides to help out my fellow mobile gamers survive just a little bit longer. So I present to you my 5-minute tips for how combat works in Mini DayZ*.

*This article is for the mobile version of the game and may differ slightly from the browser version.

Combat in Mini DayZ Should Be Avoided If Possible

I know that sounds a bit counterintuitive for a combat tips guide, but hear me out. The combat in Mini DayZ is fairly similar to the combat in the mod/standalone version — you can perform melee attacks, as well as use guns to take down your enemies. The one major difference between the two is that you automatically aim at the closest enemy, which can be helpful in the chaos that is combat.

Now, just because you can punch them to death doesn’t mean you should! Your first priority is to arm yourself, preferably with a gun if you can. In the hierarchy of damage (Gun>Melee weapon >fists), your paws aren’t going to be huge damage-dealers. So you should avoid hand-to-hand combat if at all possible as it puts you at risk for bleeding.

If you do find yourself in a situation where you have to fight, then the best thing to do is to make sure you’re only fighting 1v1. If at all possible, try to split up enemies by running behind buildings and cars to make space because you are in the losing position in a 1v1 already if unarmed — and a 1v1+X is certain death.

Find Weapons to Protect Yourself

I know that’s a no-brainer tip, but gearing up is the name of this game. If you’re lucky enough to stumble upon a military base, make sure to check tents for gear, weapons, and ammo. Military bases are high risk/high reward areas, though, so beware of the crawler zombies, as well as armed survivors.

Since the maps for mobile are randomly generated, finding bases can be hard, but make sure to stick to roads to help find towns, as well as the occasional vehicle to loot for supplies.

Hopefully, this article helps you survive the unforgiving zombie apocalypse. If you’re looking for more tips, make sure to check out our other MiniDayZ guides
