Apex Legends Guide: How to Increase FPS

Whether using a high-end system or a low-end system, these three easy steps will make sure you're getting the most FPS out of Apex Legends.

Apex Legends has proven to be not only a success but also a game that seems to have very few issues, especially on PC. However, there is still always the chance of dropping FPS on low-end machines. That just comes with the PC-gaming territory.

Fortunately, there is a way to increase your FPS count in case you’re running below the desired 60-or-more threshold. Below, we take a quick look at how to adjust your game settings for a smoother and faster experience in Apex Legends.

Step 1: Set Your FPS to Unlimited

Before jumping into the game settings, it’s a good idea to first remove any pre-set FPS limits on your PC. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Launch EA Origins
  2. Go to Game Library
  3. Select Apex Legends
  4. Open Settings
  5. Click on Game Properties
  6. Go to Advanced Launch Options tab
  7. In Command Line Argument type in +fps_max unlimited
  8. Press Save

This quick procedure will remove any FPS limitations that might have been pre-installed on your PC.

Step 2: Adjust Game Settings

Now, you can start adjusting your game settings. There are no set rules here, so be free to try out different things. But here are a few suggestions that may help you significantly.

  1. Aspect Ratio: Native
  2. Resolution: Native or less
  3. Field of View: 100 or less
  4. V-Sync: Disabled
  5. Adaptive Frame Resolution: 0
  6. Anti-aliasing: Disabled
  7. Texture Streaming Budget: Should correspond to your GPU RAM
  8. Texture Filtering: Bilinear

The remaining settings should also be disabled. This will give you the maximum performance boost, and your FPS count should rise well above the 100 FPS threshold.

Step 3: Edit Configuration File

This last step is not necessary, but if you want to squeeze out every additional bit of FPS on your system, then follow these steps:

  1. Go to “%USERPROFILE%Saved GamesRespawnApexlocal” directory
  2. Open “videoconfig.txt” file
    • Set “cl_ragdoll_self_collision” to “0
    • Set “mat_depthfeather_enable” to “0
    • Set “r_lod_switch_scale” to “0.5
