Act 3 is full of side quests. There are many to pick up from simply starting a conversation with the right NPC. The Baldur’s Mouth Gazette wants to run a piece that vilifies you. So, the only option you have to save your reputation is to swap that story for cat pictures! Here’s what to do.

After talking with Ettvard, you’ll be kicked out of the building. Trying to get back inside will start a fight. This can become a huge issue because the Steel Watch gets involved. After the incident, you’ll be arrested on sight by guards moving forward. Or you’ll have to fight every guard after resisting arrest.

How to Sneak Into the Basement

The best course of action in Stop the Presses is to use a character with stealth. Then be sure to give them Invisibility through scrolls or potions if they don’t have the spell. The last piece of the puzzle is to send that character in alone.

I used Astarion because my Warlock isn’t exactly a master of shadows. Send him into the building and to one of two entrances that take you to the basement: the elevator or the metal door. Turn-based mode is incredibly useful here, so you get the most out of Invisibility’s limited time.

How to Swap News Stories

Once you’re in the basement, you’ll find a couple of Steel Watch guards. The Printing Press is beyond the doors on the south wall. If you saved Dolly Dolly Dolly, the fairy in the Moonlantern, the fairy in the Printing Press will recognize you. They’ll help by explaining you need a news story to replace the defamatory one set to run.

Searching wicker baskets and surfaces in the rooms of the basement gives you a few options to choose from. Some are praising adventurers, while another is about cute cat pictures. Grab the article you want to spread through Baldur’s Gate in the newspaper. Then return to the Printing Press to complete the quest. Because you need stealth in this section, the best escape is simply using a Waypoint and having the party regroup elsewhere in the city.

That covers how to complete Stop the Presses in Baldur’s Gate 3. Some players have run into bugs from looting before talking with the Printing Press that prevent progression. Make sure you wait before ransacking the area. Otherwise, check our BG3 guide hub for topics like if you should let Astarion Ascend or how to solve the Vault Puzzle in Act 3.
