Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Find and Use the Mirror of Loss

Use the Mirror of Loss for a stat boost in Baldur's Gate 3!

The Sharrans possess the Mirror of Loss, a tool they use to steal memories. You’ll be able to access it even if Shadowheart is no longer a follower of Shar, but you need to get through a rather tough battle in order to reach it. Without further ado, here’s how to find and use the Mirror of Loss in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to Find and Use the Mirror of Loss in Baldur’s Gate 3

While there’s a broken Mirror of Loss located in the Gauntlet of Shar, you’ll come across an intact mirror during Act 3 after you complete Shadowheart’s quest.

Finding the Mirror of Loss

You can find the Mirror of Loss in the House of Grief beyond Viconia’s boss room. The door to the Chamber of Loss is locked, but that doesn’t have to stop you. To open it, go to the statue at the bottom of the stairs and place 1000 gold into its bowl. However, if you’re unwilling to part with your gold, a rogue should be able to lockpick the door open, bypassing the statue’s offering.

Using the Mirror of Loss

At the far end of the chamber is the Mirror of Loss. When you first interact with it, you have an option for an Arcana Check and two Religion Checks to figure out what the mirror does. Otherwise, you’ll choose to offer the mirror a memory. This means that you’ll be cursed to take a -2 to the stat you choose, which is connected to the memory. The memories match the order of stats in your character sheet, so the order starting from the top is as follows:

  • Strength
  • Dexterity
  • Constitution
  • Intelligence
  • Wisdom
  • Charisma

You can then offer a prayer to the mirror and receive a +2 to the stat you choose. They’ll be listed in the same order as above. As a bonus, you can use Remove Curse to get rid of the -2 stat debuff. Then, the +2 buff will last until the end of your game.

While that covers how to find and use the Mirror of Loss in Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s far from the only secret you’ll come across in the game. However, not every secret has beneficial effects. For more tips, go to our BG3 guide hub for topics like how to defeat Viconia or what the Strange Ox is.
