Receiving the Mark of the Absolute might seem like an option you want to avoid, but it offers new dialogue options and access to gear that you wouldn’t be able to use otherwise early in the game. The mark being on your character’s palm makes it easy to hide for when you don’t want to use it in interactions as well. If this sounds interesting to you, here’s how to get the Mark of the Absolute in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to Get the Mark of the Absolute in BG3

Priestess Gut gives you the Mark of the Absolute the first time you speak with her in the Shattered Sanctum, as long as you don’t select hostile dialogue options or decline to receive it.

If you free Sazza, she’ll escort you to Priestess Gut. However, you can meet with her on your own without having to fight through Blighted Village and the Goblin Camp on your way through the use of Illithid Wisdom in dialogue and choosing to speak with the Goblins who stop you on the way rather than attack them.

The entrance to the Shattered Sanctum is on the north side of the Goblin Camp and set up within a ruined temple. If you enter the doors on the ground floor that are guarded by an ogre, a couple Goblins will stop and question you when you first enter into the sanctum, and it doesn’t matter if you convince them to let you through or kill them. It doesn’t affect your ability to meet with Priestess Gut, who’s in the main room of the sanctum.

Speak with Priestess Gut and express interest in the mark when she mentions it, which can be done with either of the first two dialogue options. She’ll then be ready to brand you, and you’ll have to choose an option other than refusing to receive the brand. I went with the sarcastic option about wanting to smell my own burning flesh.

She’ll brand you, and that’s how you get the Mark of the Absolute in Baldur’s Gate 3. From here, you can choose to ally with the Goblins, or slaughter them, release Halsin, and join the Druids’ side.
