Baldur’s Gate 3: Should You Kill Nightsong?

It's one of Baldur's Gate 3's biggest decisions: should you kill or save Nightsong?

You’ll come across a few big decisions in Act 2. What to do about Nightsong might have the most impactful consequences of all the choices for this act. Nightsong is a mysterious woman who seems to know Shadowheart, but Shadowheart was sent to kill her in Shar’s name. And that leads to the conundrum of should you kill Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Should You Kill Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3?

At the end of the Gauntlet of Shar, you’ll enter the Shadowfell. Shadowheart’s task is to kill Nightsong with the Spear of the Night, but when you arrive to her prison, Nightsong knows information about Shadowheart that shakes her determination. You can use this moment to talk Shadowheart out of killing Nightsong, you can encourage her, or you can keep silent and let her resolve the matter on her own.

What Happens If You Kill Nightsong

If you kill Nightsong, Shadowheart becomes a Dark Justiciar and Ketheric’s immortality is removed. However, Isobel’s barrier over Last Light Inn breaks, letting the Shadow Curse sweep through and kill or turn everyone there. This means you won’t get help from the NPCs there when you attack Moonrise Towers, you won’t be able to recruit Jaheira, and you won’t have help from Nightsong against Ketheric Thorm.

What Happens If You Save Nightsong

If you save Nightsong, she promises that she’ll help Shadowheart take back her life and that which she’s lost to Shar. But first, she heads to face Ketheric. A cutscene plays that shows Nightsong’s flight to Moonrise Towers, and her release lifts the Shadow Curse from the land. This means that you’ll receive help from Jaheira and the Harpers in Moonrise Towers, and Nightsong will fight Ketheric with you.

If you’re wondering if you should kill Nightsong in Baldur’s Gate 3, you shouldn’t unless you’re doing an evil playthrough. Even then, it might not be worth making the end portion of Act 2 harder, and if you haven’t done “Lift the Shadow Curse,” you’ll have to fight through Last Light Inn’s NPCs to complete it and recruit Halsin. It’s worthwhile to keep Nightsong alive, and then you can use our BG3 guide hub to answer more questions like should you kill Viconia and how to get to the House of Hope.
