Baldur’s Gate 3 System Requirement Details

Baldur's Gate 3 might be the biggest RPG of the decade, but it's not the biggest in terms of hardware demand.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is looking to be one of the biggest RPGs of the decade — if not the RPG of the decade. When was the last time Larian put out a bad game? (Don’t you say Divinity: Dragon Commander wasn’t good.) The Baldur’s Gate name hasn’t seen a new game release in 20 years. The Dungeons & Dragons yoke is a heavy one, and the CRPG genre is in dire need of a quality infusion. If you’ve yet to pick it up, you’ll want to double-check the Baldur’s Gate 3 PC requirements just in case you need to do some last-minute shopping.

The system requirements for the game aren’t anything absurd by current standards. If anything, they’re lower than most larger releases today. In this guide, I’ll briefly go over the system requirements for Baldur’s Gate 3 and two aspects you need to bear in mind.

Baldur’s Gate 3 PC System Requirements

  • In Early Access, the game’s minimum GPUs are GTX 970 and RX 480. It’s very possible this will change with launch, and this guide will be adjusted if so.
  • Like many big releases in 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3 requires an SSD to play.

While Larian’s website and the game’s Steam page both mention a GTX 970 and RX 480 are the minimum compatible GPUs, you may find this requirement is raised with 1.0. Several games have come out this and last year that initially stated the 970 was the minimum, only to have it hiked up to a 1060 or 1070 on release due to driver factors.

Of course, there’s always the chance Baldur’s Gate 3 will run on low-end cards even if the requirement is raised! Minimum requirements aren’t a steadfast rule, after all. However, they’re being phased out rapidly, and it’s best to upgrade when you can.

The SSD requirement is also notable if you still boot from an HDD. Most gaming PCs these days have SSDs, either internal or external. Being that this isn’t the only game coming out this year demanding an SSD, it’s best to get one if you primarily game on PC. They’re more affordable than they’ve ever been. That said, the game has worked just fine for many in Early Access using HDDs, but texture loading can be delayed.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Minimum Requirements

  • Operating System: Windows 10 (64-bit)
  • CPU: Intel i5 -4690 / AMD FX 8350
  • RAM: 8GB RAM
  • Video card: Nvidia GTX 970 or AMD Radeon RX 480 (4+GB of VRAM)
  • Storage Space: 150GB

Naturally, you’ll need an SSD to play this baby with. Or not. But you should probably use one.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Recommended Requirements

  • Operating System: Windows 10 (64-bit)
  • CPU: Intel i7-8700K or AMD r5 3600
  • RAM: 16GB RAM
  • Video Card: Nvidia 2060 Super or AMD RS 5700 XT (8GB+ of VRAM)
  • Storage Space: 150GB

You’ are’re definitely going to want to run it on an SSD on recommended settings.

That’s pretty much all you need to know about the Baldur’s Gate 3 system requirements, since they’re rather low by most standards. Even if the minimum GPU requirement changes and you’re running one of the listed cards, you’ll probably still be able to play the game. The same can be said of the SSD requirement, but this gets more dicey in regards to recommended specs because of the large texture filesizes.
