Best Gadget Deviants in Once Human

Gadget Deviants might not be as renowned as their counterparts, but they are no less crucial for your continue survival in Once Human.

Gadget Deviants are in a weird position in Once Human. Some players swear by them while others completely underestimate them. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the best Gadget Deviants in Once Human and talk about why they shouldn’t be underestimated.

The Best Gadget Deviants in Once Human, Ranked

But first, what makes a good Gadget Deviant? It all comes down to two things: how useful their item is and how difficult they are to acquire. The sum of both of those factors is what makes some Gadget Deviants better than others.

Harveseed: S-Tier

Pros:

  • Its item (Living Armor) is useful in every situation
  • It produces a significant amount of the resource required to create Living Armor

Cons:

  • It’s acquired after defeating the Treant and only by defeating the Treant
  • Living armor has a 10-minute cooldown

Harveseed is probably the single most underestimated Deviant in the game, even though it’s easily one of the best Deviants in Once Human. The thing that makes Harveseed so good is that it’s essential for creating Living Armor, which is a drink that serves as a sort of “second life” whenever you drop below 20% HP. It’s essential for PvP and especially effective when soloing bosses.

Space Turner: A-Tier

Pros:

  • Easily acquirable through a quest
  • Gives you an overwhelming advantage in PvP

Cons:

  • Practically useless in PvE, unless your friends are far away from a teleportation tower
  • Takes up a Containment Unit

Space Twister is one of the cheesiest items for setting up ambushes in the game. It’s especially useful whenever you get ambushed on a PvP server and have a friend ready to help but they’re too far away. If used right, it can even make its wielder a portable teleportation tower, which is pretty neat.

Frog the Leaper: B-Tier

Pros:

  • Easy to acquire
  • Can be used to traverse seemingly untraversable terrain
  • Can be used to set up ambushes or escape them

Cons:

  • The situations in which you have to use Spring Legs are very rare
  • Takes up a Containment Unit

Frog the Leaper is one of those Gadget Deviants that you activate just long enough for them to produce enough of their resource and then take out of the Containment Unit. Spring Legs is a pretty cool drink, it can make you jump higher, and… that’s about it. It’s so situational that you don’t even need it half of the time, hence the B-Tier.

Gingerbread House: C-Tier

Pros:

  • Can double as a consumable that restores your sanity
  • Spawns frequently and is easy to acquire
  • Its Transformation Cookies are a cool gimmick for a bit

Cons:

  • Frivolous waste of a Containment Chamber
  • Its transformation effect is easy to distinguish

There’s probably not a better Deviant for messing around with others quite like the Gingerbread House. Its special item is the Transformation Cookie which turns you into a nearby inanimate object, allowing you to hide away from pursuers or wait in ambush. However, the effect is so obvious that it’s useless in nine out of ten times.

Dreamcatcher: D-Tier

Pros:

  • Useful for crowd control
  • Abundant resource production

Cons:

  • Acquired later in the game after defeating Arachsiam
  • Can be easily evaded

Realistically, Dreamcatcher’s item is pretty good for crowd control, especially in tight corridors. The problem with it is that you can see it coming a mile away. Compared to other Gadget items, this one is more offensive. However, instead of giving you an overwhelming advantage, it just takes you out of the fight for a few seconds, and rarely does it produce the desired effect.

Hug-in-a-Bowl: F-Tier

Pros:

  • Easily acquirable
  • Can double as a powerful consumable

Cons:

  • Waste of a Containment Unit
  • Requires you to invest in your cooking skills to be effective

Hug-in-a-Bowl is a weird consumable that doubles as Gadget Deviant. Its whole deal is that it gives you a noodle recipe that can fully restore your sanity. While it’s true that it’s a useful item to have, there are so many alternatives available that you’re effectively wasting a Containment Unit if you keep this thing around. It’s not the worst Deviant in the game but it’s certainly the most useless one.
