How to Level Up Fast in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

In my time with FF7 Rebirth, leveling up was tightly controlled, with most quests starting at or around my level in each region I visited. However, I was able to use specific abilities to learn which enemies provided high XP rewards that you can farm not only for levels but also rare crafting materials. If farming monsters isn’t your bag, there are more exploration-minded tasks you can also carry out.

Spoiler Alert: I’ll be discussing mechanics, enemies, and locations from in and out of the main Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth story. Read at your own risk.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Rebirth Leveling Tip #1: Complete Quests

Completing quests, both in the Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth main story and side quests, is one of the most consistent sources of XP in the game. Each quest has multiple parts, and many of those parts will grant some experience reward, with capstone boss fights and major plot points paying out dividends. Side quests are even more numerous. Not only do they grant a solid amount of XP, they also reward relationship progress with your party members, as well as the occasional high-tier or hidden item. They also sometimes hide a minigame with rewards of its own.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Rebirth Leveling Tip #2: Fight Classified Foes

There are several different activity types in Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, all categorized under the World Intel moniker. Combat Assignments see you taking on unique versions of that region’s monsters, and completing all of these tasks unlocks the boss of the region. Each boss, like the Quetzaquatl for the Grasslands or the Mind Flayer from Junon, not only award rare crafting materials but also a hefty chunk of experience when defeated.

Like the lesser assignments that unlocked them, you can fight these pinnacle challenges as many times as you like, earning new drops and more XP for each kill. Better still, you’ll eventually out-level most Classified Foes, making farming them a much easier task. The XP you get from them won’t be worth as much, but they’ll likely still be worth more than the rank-and-file monsters you can fight in your most recently visited region.

I’ve found at least one instance where you need to return to a previous region to get a classified foe’s special material. You’ll only really need them for high-level crafting recipes, but I’m glad there’s a reason to go back beyond generic grinding.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Rebirth Leveling Tip #3: Do All World Intel Activities

World Intel activities go beyond combat. There’s also finding Lifesprings, upgrading Summon material, and finding the mysterious Protorelics. While these side items don’t always grant tons of character experience, many do have at least a few monsters to fight. More importantly, all open-world objectives award Party XP, which you’ll need to fully upgrade your Folios, a major character progression system in Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth. You get some Party XP from progressing the main story and side quests, but you can get tons more by engaging with World Intel as you explore.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Rebirth Leveling Tip #4: Explore, Fight, Have Fun

The world of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth is beautiful, vibrant, and filled with hidden things to find, whether they be monsters, treasures, or different places to ride your Chocobo. By the end of the game, even the weakest monsters in a region can provide leagues more XP than those earlier in your adventure. On Dynamic Difficulty, even the fiends of the Grasslands will keep up with you, meaning you can grind experience wherever you please. There’s more than 100 hours of content, much of it interesting and emotional, to enjoy in this game, so go out and dig in.

Those are my top four tips for leveling up fast in Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth. The process is straightforward no matter how you slice it, though there are a couple of wrinkles in there if you’re looking for them. There’s tons more to talk about, so check our Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth guides hub for more.
