If you’ve been a longtime fan of the crime-filled series, there’s a good chance you played its predecessor Payday 2 on Xbox One. Of course, a lot of time has passed since then. Can You Play Payday 3 on Xbox One? Answered

You can’t play Payday 3 on Xbox One, as it’s only available on the latest generation of consoles. This means you can only dive into your heists on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Alternatively, you can play on PC, if that’s your jam.

This has been confirmed in a number of places, one being the official game FAQ on Payday 3‘s website. Additionally, prior to launch, the Payday 3 devs sat down to record dev diaries, going into depth about interesting topics, including customization, skills, and art design. In regards to potential Xbox One availability, they covered it early on in the series. In Episode 2: Platforms, they answered questions about consoles, parity, and crossplay.

At the start of the brief four-minute video, Executive Producer Craig Mcleod clarified:

We are committed to making sure that all of our releases are across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. And you’ll notice that when I’m saying this, I’m saying we’re only on the latest generation of consoles.

Though it’s not the greatest news for owners of an Xbox One, Payday 3 does make some strides by focusing solely on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. If you have one of its supported platforms, you can enjoy crossplay with your friends no matter what platform they prefer. Cross-progression is also available, letting you take your criminal antics from the couch to your desk whenever you like.

Ultimately, Payday 3 isn’t on Xbox One and it’s unlikely to come to the last-gen console in the future. Reading the official FAQ, you’ll notice the developer’s focus is on upgrading the game’s engine to Unreal Engine 5. When it comes to new tech, studios don’t want to fall behind. So if the allure of high-octane heists is too strong to ignore, it might be time to make the jump to the latest consoles.
