Understanding all of the Darkest Dungeon 2 Battle Tokens and effects will only help you get much further in each of your runs. With all the new combat mechanics and enemies introduced in this sequel, there are 22 additional Battle Tokens to collect. Some are unique, associated with the enemy that casts it, while some are part of a hero’s kit. Still, others relate to the new Burn DoT added with the game’s 1.0 launch. Darkest Dungeon 2 Battle Tokens Explained

Darkest Dungeon 2 Battle Tokens appear during regular battles and boss battles, and they fall into several categories:

  • Buffs (Gold)
  • Debuffs (Blue)
  • Stealth (Purple)
  • Unique (Orange)
  • Special (Green)
  • Other (Grey)

How to See Battle Tokens in Darkest Dungeon 2

Battle Tokens are found under a character or enemy’s health bar. Horror and Stress appear above a character’s health bar, along with Regen, Blight, Bleed, and Burn Tokens. You can go into the main menu to find this Token glossary or hold CTRL on your keyboard. You can also hover over the token to see what it does while in battle.

Below, we outline all of the Darkest Dungeon 2 Battle Tokens, Hero Battle Tokens, and Boss Battle Tokens with their effects so that you can use this guide as a cheat sheet when they appear on your runs.

All Darkest Dungeon 2 Battle Tokens and Effects

These are general Battle Tokens that show up in most combat situations. They can appear on allies or enemies and can appear when deciding whether to commit to combat or flee, signifying any potential battle bonuses there may be.

  • Crit: Next Skill has 100% Crit and ignores 20% REST
  • Riposte: Counter-attacks the next damaging attack
  • Dodge: 50% chance to dodge next attack
  • Dodge+: 75% chance to dodge next attack
  • Block: take -50% DMG from next hit
  • Block+: take -75% DMG from next hit
  • Guarded: Protected by an ally unit
  • Strength: Next attack deals +50% DMG
  • Speed: Acts faster next round
  • Stress
  • Horror: Adds Stress to Hero each round
  • Daze: Next turn will be delayed to end of round
    • Converts to Stun when stacked
  • Stun: Loses next action
  • Blind: 50% chance to miss next attack
  • Weak: Next attack deals -50% DMG
  • Vulnerable: Takes +50% DMG from next hit
  • Chosen Target: Takes +30% DMG from Bullseye Barrett’s attacks
  • Taunt: Enemies are forced to attack this target if able
  • Immobilize: Can’t move or be moved
  • Combo: Triggers additional Skill effects when targeted, lasts 3 turns
  • Corpulent: Enables powerful Plague Eater skill
  • Fodder: Consumed by other Plague Eaters to heal them
  • Order: Used by the Drummer in the Tangle to enable other enemies the use of powerful skills
  • Benediction: Used by the Bishop in the Tangle to enable several powerful skills
  • Worship: Used by Cultists to heal other cultists
    • Can enable powerful skills
  • Barnacles: Applied by the Fisherfolk on a position. Inflicts 1 Bleed when moving through the position. Lasts 3 turns.
  • Newborn Mutation: Used when the Cabin Boy turns into another Fisherfolk.
    • +3 Speed
    • +25% DMG
    • Block on Hit increased by 33%
  • Repair: Comes up when the Stagecoach has broken down and you’re in Urgent Repairs combat.
    • This Hero will have to do Repairs this round as their action.
  • Don’t Leave Me: Comes up when the Stagecoach has broken down.
    • Increases Stress
  • Toxic: Apply 2 Blight to attackers per Toxic Token. Toxic is the Stress state the Flagellent enters instead of going Resolute or Meltdown

All Darkest Dungeon 2 Hero Battle Tokens and Effects

Darkest Dungeon 2 Hero Battle Tokens are specific to Heroes as a result of their skills. Some represent power levels, while others are buffs on allies.

  • Controlled Burn: This token is an effect of the Runaway’s Controlled Burn skill that stays at the position it was cast on.
    • Inflicts 2 Burn on monsters on their Turn Start
  • Controlled Burn+: Inflicts 3 Burn on enemy Turn Start
  • Consecration of Light: A token from the Vestal’s Consecration of Light skill. Effects the position it was cast on.
    • Grants Strength to the ally in the position on Turn Start
  • Consecration of Light+: Grants Strength (75%) or Crit (25%) to the ally on Turn Start
  • Consecration of Fortitude: A token from the Vestal’s Consecration of Fortitude skill. Effects the position it was cast on.
    • Turn Start: Add Block (50%) or Dodge (50%)
  • Consecration of Fortitude+: Turn Start: Add Block+ (50%) or Dodge+ (50%)
  • Winded: A negative token for the Hellion when using some skills. Max of three tokens.
    • -33% DMG per Token
    • -3 Speed per Token
  • Pain: Flagellant Token when using More! MORE! skill.
    • Heal 10% at end of next turn
  • Pain+: Heal 15% at end of next turn
  • Conviction: Empowers Vestal Skills
  • Unchecked Power: Empowers Occultist Skills
    • 33% Burn chance at start of round per token

All Darkest Dungeon 2 Boss Battle Tokens

Some Bosses have special Tokens for unique attacks they use. You may want to avoid this section if you don’t want any spoilers about the various Lair or Confession Bosses.

  • Leviathan – Call of the Deep: Marks target for Leviathan’s Hand to use Undertow
  • Dreaming General – Creeping Growth: Adds a stack of Tangled Growth. At three stacks turns into Strangle.
    • Strangle: DoT, Hero must use Whispering Darkness skill
  • Taproot – Taproot: Token in response to being attacked
    • The Soil Stirs: Marks Heroes as targets for Dreaming General’s The Waking Dead attack
  • Harvest Child – Harvest Hunger: Forced forward movement one position. If in first position must eat the meat
  • Shackles of Denial: Each Shackle has a different specialty token
    • Denial of Arms – Can’t use Melee attacks
    • Denial of Reach – Can’t use Ranged attacks
    • Denial of Fortitude – Can’t use Healing skills
    • Denial of Reason – Can’t use Stress Heal skills
  • Seething Sigh – Lung Inflate: Signals getting ready for a large attack
  • Focused Fault – Seen: Marks ally as target of that specific eye stalk, similar to Taunt

These are the newest Battle Tokens in DD2. They focus on a variety of new skills for Heroes as well as additional tactics enemies may employ.
