Does Infection Free Zone Have Mods? Answered

Infection Free Zone might not have mod support, but it still features impressive levels of customization.

Infection Free Zone is a very customizable game. You can choose your survivor’s starting location from anywhere in the world and tailor the game’s difficulty across three different areas. It’s not so unreasonable to ask a game like Infection Free Zone to support mods, which allow for even more customization.

Is Infection Free Zone Going to Have Mod Support?

Sadly, the game doesn’t currently have mods, nor does it feature any kind of mod support. The good news is that the game’s developers are planning to add mod support eventually. But, we might have to wait until the game’s full release. A lack of mod support might not stop individual modders, but it will probably delay the formation of a proper modding community.

That’s a shame, even if it makes logical sense. After all, if the game starts supporting mods while in early access, as it keeps receiving major updates, modders will be left playing catch-up with every new release. Game updates break mods daily, as happened with the recent Fallout 4 next-gen patch. We can only imagine what it would do to a still-developing game.

How to Customize Infection Free Zone Easier Without Mods

Unfortunately, there is currently no way to alter the game to this extent. Chances are, you’re looking for mods to add one of two things. You might be looking for more content: more missions, more buildings, more types of infected to fight. After all, this is an early access title. There isn’t a whole lot to do after you get your colony going.

Alternatively, you might be looking for mods to fix some of the game’s issues. Those might include more automation and other quality-of-life improvements. That’s a reasonable request. Infection Free Zone would certainly benefit from some improved pathfinding AI and less micromanagement. The good news is that the game already has some built-in solutions, even if they’re not perfect.

Squads don’t automatically loot buildings. They don’t even go back to base to deposit their findings after an expedition. Squads only go back to base to deposit their findings if they have something to do afterward. That’s silly, but not too hard to word around. Use shift and right mouse click to queue multiple orders. Order a squad to raid multiple buildings and they’ll start working on their own.

How to Use Cheats and Change Difficulty in Infection Free Zone

The last two things you might want to consider doing to satiate your thirst for mods are difficulty options and cheats. Difficulty is self-explanatory. Many players are opposed to lowering difficulty on principle, but that’s not so different from using a rebalancing mod. You’ll choose your preferred difficulty options among three categories (People, Resources, and Hordes Number) when starting a new game.

Cheats are a more heavy-handed way of handling customization but consider that they were added by the developers on purpose. If you want to spawn some survivors or bypass the squad limit number, you can spawn new ones with a simple command.
