Learning to heal as a druid can be a bit daunting if you don’t understand how druid heals are intended to work. You must first understand your role in a raid if you are to do well.
The role of a druid heal in any raid is to act as a group healer. To heal multiple targets over a period of time. A Druid, however, can also function as a 5 man dungeon healer. Extremely mana efficient, Druids are a force to be reckoned with if they are correctly set up.
In order to get the most from your heals, you need to understand that Druid healing primarily consists of Heal over Time spells or HoT’s. Their spells are meant to stack with other spells to create a synergistic healing effect that is greater than the sum total of the individual spells. For example, Nourish by itself is an average heal. However, if you first put Lifebloom, Rejuvenation, Regrowth, or Wild Growth on your target, then Nourish will heal for an additional 20%.
5-Man Dungeon Strategy
Right as the fight begins I cast the following on the tank.
I’m careful not to cast before the fight as my heals cause aggro.
- Lifebloom X 3 – I keep this active on the tank at ALL times. This spell is refreshed every time you cast Healing Touch, Nourish, or Regrowth on the target.
- Rejuvenation – Another HoT
- Nourish – A low mana cost spell. It’s not HoT but when you have Lifebloom, rejuvenation, regrowth, or Wild Growth on the target it heals for an additional 20%.
- Swiftmend – Not only does this heal the tank, it also heals the three most injured allies within 8 yards of the target. This secondary target heal is a HoT.
For the Rest of the Group
If the damage dealers are doing their job and staying out of crap, then Wild Growth will keep the group healed as a whole. If someone is taking excessive damage, throw a Regrowth or Rejuvenation at them. If necessary, cast Nourish.
Now lets say the tank takes a damage spike. It’s now time to use your “Holy Crap!” heal spells. This is when you bust out Healing Touch and Incarnation: Tree of Life.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions feel free to post them in response to this post. I’ll answer them the best that I can.
