How to Find and Kill the Flatwoods Monster

While the Flatwoods Monster is classified as a cryptid, it’s not a zoological mystery at all. In fact, it’s an alien. Somehow, this being got trapped on Earth and decided to make Appalachia its home. It spawns during the night and exhibits a purple glow from its otherwise clear suit. You can still encounter this creature during the day since it doesn’t despawn if it’s hunting another player or in combat.

How to Find the Flatwoods Monster

There are a few key places you want to look when searching for the Flatwoods Monster:

  • The river between Harpers Ferry and Thunder Mountain Power Plant Yard
  • The valley between North Mountain Lookout and Converted Munitions Factory

Surprisingly enough, it doesn’t typically spawn in Flatwoods. It also lacks a set spawn point, but most sightings have been in the above two areas.

Event Appearances

The cryptid can appear during some events:

  • Queen of the Hunt
  • Campfire Tales
  • Making Sacrifices
  • Invaders From Beyond — Seasonal

How to Kill the Flatwoods Monster

Once you’ve encountered the alien, you’ll need to take it out. Trying to outrun it won’t work, as it can teleport, keeping up with you regardless of running. It’ll often use teleport while in combat to prevent you from being able to target it easily.

If you’re around other creatures or turrets, be aware that it can use mind control to have those attack you. If something is glowing purple, you need to watch out. It attacks with a combo of melee hits and laser beams. When you finally get its health low, you’ll see that it will heal up, an ability it can use multiple times if you don’t burst it down quickly.

Flatwoods Monster Resistances

The Flatwoods Monster is immune to Radiant damage. It also has a higher resistance to:

  • Energy
  • Poison
  • Fire
  • Cryo

Your best bet when trying to kill one is to use plain, ballistic bullets. I used automatic weapons to chunk it down as fast as possible while trying to run away. You can even go melee with it to avoid the higher damage from its ranged attack. Aim at its head, if you can, as it takes more damage than any other part of its body. Try getting some space to line up a clean headshot.
