Fallout 76: How to Get and Use Farmable Dirt Tiles

Farmable Dirt Tiles allow you to grow food where you couldn't before in Fallout 76.

You’ll want to save all the time you can on harvesting on the Appalachia. In this guide we’ll go over how to get Farmable Dirt Tiles to use in your C.A.M.P. in Fallout 76.

How to Get Farmable Dirt Tiles in Fallout 76

There are only two ways to get the plan for Farmable Dirt Tiles:

  • Buy with Gold Bullion from Samuel or Minerva.
  • Buy from other players.

The most consistent way to get it is to head to Foundation and trade with Samuel. It costs 500 gold bullion, but you’ll be able to find it in his inventory so long as you’re on good terms with the Settlers. Specifically, you’ll need to have achieved the Friendly reputation with them. The higher your rep, the more inventory he’ll have.

Minerva is the other gold bullion option. She moves each week and has a rotating inventory, so you’ll have to keep track of her stock if you’re looking for a specific plan. The bright side is Farmable Dirt Tiles only cost 375 gold bullion, so it’s definitely worth it if you’re short on cash. Thankfully, we make it easy to find out her location and catalogue for the week with our Minerva guide.

If you’d rather use caps to purchase the plan, you can try checking out player C.A.M.P.s to see if they have it. Since it takes a harder to get currency, it’s unlikely to be found this way, but you can get lucky. You can also reach out using the in game chat, the Fallout 76 Marketplace subreddit, or Steam community forums to see if someone is willing to make a deal.

Once you have the plan, and read it to learn it, you’ll be able to place the tiles in your C.A.M.P. or in a workshop you’ve claimed. They’re listed under the Floors tab, so you’ll have to scroll through until you find ones with Garden in the name. Don’t be fooled like I was by the starting Wood Floor option into thinking they’re all wood floors.

To place the Farmable Dirt tiles you’ll want to use the Foundation tiles. These can be placed anywhere on the ground. If there’s already a foundation, such as building on concrete or a former road, you’ll be able to place the Upper Floor tiles, as well. There are three size variations for the upper option, giving you the freedom to only place a small plot or create a massive greenhouse.

Are Farmable Dirt Tiles Worth It?

The worth of Farmable Dirt Tiles is going to be different for everyone, but there are a few key things to keep in mind when deciding to purchase the plan.

  • They can be placed in Shelters, but Food production isn’t allowed. The tab for it doesn’t even show when inside one in Build mode. You won’t actually be able to grow anything in the plots.
  • If you normally build in the wilderness, you don’t need the tiles to have a garden. There’s plenty of dirt all around.
  • If you use prebuilt structures, like neat farm areas, or want to create a greenhouse, Farmable Dirt Tiles are just the ticket.

I have my C.A.M.P. right below Fort Atlas on a flat area before the drop off. Farmable Dirt Tiles are pretty useless for me since I can plant anything throughout my Build space. I do really like the idea of having a greenhouse, however, so I splurged and got the plan from Minerva. It’s also nice to have on hand if I ever decide to relocate or want to take my second C.A.M.P. in a totally different direction.

That’s all there is to know about how to get and use Farmable Dirt Tiles, including where to get the plan and how to use them, in Fallout 76. For more on Minerva, how to complete Settler quests, or where to find certain resources, check out our guide vault.
