Tired of PUBG? Try playing the new Battle Royale mode in Fortnite, and learn how to survive it all the way through to the victory with the help of this guide.

With the increasing popularity of PUBG and its unconventional gameplay, more and more developers are aiming to add a Battle Royale mode of their own into games like GTA Online and Fortnite. However, these modes are not identical, as each game offers a slightly different version of this dynamic PvP experience.

Fortnite’s new Battle Royale mode is currently in the Public Test realm, and all Fortnite owners can test it out for themselves before September 26. This mode is hard as nails, especially for those who’ve never played a last-man-standing challenge before.

If you want to learn how to survive in the Battle Royale mode in Fortnite, then check out some of the most essential tips below.

Land Near Settlements, Not Inside Them

In the very beginning, when you drop from an airbus, don’t follow other players and jump right off. Instead, wait for the bus to move ahead and jump on the territory where no one has landed yet. This will give you time to gather all the loot you need and proceed with gathering resources, crafting, and surviving till the end.

If you decide to jump above any major location, try not to land directly in the center of the settlement, but aim for its periphery. This is very important, as you will have no weapon in the beginning — but others will, and they will use it against you if you land inside the settlement.

So use your glider and move towards the periphery. Try to snatch your first weapon from one of the smaller huts or from other dead players. If you landed in the heavily populated area by mistake, then hide and wait for the shoot-out to end. Then leave your hiding place and check the dead bodies for loot.

Usually, players can’t take all the loot from defeated opponents, so there is a lot to left for you to choose from. These tactics are the best for your early game, and will score you some decent weapons and healing items.

Get a Shotgun and Sniper Rifle ASAP

Close combat is very dangerous, and the player that has the shotgun will have an advantage. It is more precise and powerful than the assault rifle, so try to find one as soon as you can. For long-range combat, you will need a sniper rifle.

When you have a good weapon, try to pick up as much ammo as you can find. Even pick up the ammo that you don’t need or that doesn’t fit your weapons — in this way you will eliminate the chance of other players to take it and use it against you.

In case you didn’t manage to find a weapon, when confronting another player that already has one — run as fast as you can. It is never a good idea to try to be aggressive with only a pick in your hands. On the other hand, if you’ve got a shotgun and you want to eliminate your first victim, then use crouching to approach them without too much noise.

Gather Resources and Start Building

Crafting and building are two distinct features of the Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode. You can either find resources (like metal, wood, and stone) lying on the ground and inside the chests, or you can use your mining pick for all the necessary resources by destroying stumps, rocks, and certain parts of buildings.

Considering the noise that is emitted during the mining process, try to do it when you know for sure that there are no enemies in the close vicinity. Otherwise, it may attract unwanted attention and will leave you vulnerable to a quick bullet from behind.

But again, if you manage to gather enough resources for building a defense tower, then you will have a greater advantage over any other enemy. Even if you have no time and opportunity to build an entire tower, you can craft simple walls and leave them behind you to cover yourself up in the moment of escape.

Pay Attention to the Shrinking Storm Eye

The Storm Eye is an ever-shrinking circle that creates a safe area for all the leftover players to gather in one place and decide who will be the last man standing. The best tactics would be to stay as close to the edges of the Storm Eye as you can, and follow its trail as it shrinks.

In the final stage of the game, when there’s only a few players left, having a well-protected structure as your base is essential for surviving and winning. Having a simple wooden tower is not enough, since your enemy can just use a rocket launcher to smash it down.

Instead try to build a several story brick structure and remove the stairs as you ascend higher. This type of building will protect you from both explosives and any attempt at approaching you from inside the building. You will be both well-protected and have a solid vantage point for shooting down your last enemy.

If you follow this advice, you will surely win every time you play the Battle Royale mode in Fortnite. For any other Fortnite guides for the PvE mode, look at the list below:
