Got Dead Bodies Piling Up in Cities: Skylines? Here’s the Fix!

Are dead bodies not being picked up in your Cities: Skylines game? Here's how you can clean up your streets.

So you’ve built yourself a pretty good city so far in Cities: Skylines. You have all your districts sorted out, your traffic is working well, and your emergency and public services are well placed across your map. But you start getting notifications from Chirper that there are dead bodies piling up around your city. You need to get rid of them as soon as you can, because they will start to become a health hazard and people will start leaving!

But how the heck do you solve the body problem? Turns out the solution is pretty simple. In this guide, I’m going to go over how you can take care of all those corpses piling up in your streets.

How to Get Rid of Dead Bodies in Cities: Skylines

Step 1: Make Sure You Have Cemeteries

The (somewhat obvious) solution to the dead body problem is making sure you have Cemeteries in your city! These can be found in your Healthcare building options tab. Dead bodies in your city will automatically be moved there.

Step 2: Maintain and Empty Your Cemeteries

But they can become full, which will cause bodies to spill out into the streets once more. If you have more than one cemetery in your city, you have the option to empty a full one into another facility, which will make room for more bodies in that cemetery.

To do this, click on the cemetery you want to empty. In the new window you will see three new icons — Relocate building, Empty building, and Open Budget Panel (see image below). Just click on the “Empty building” icon and the game will take care of the rest.

Step 3: Build a Crematorium

Once you have unlocked it (at a population of 12,000), you need to make sure you place a Crematorium in your city in addition to your cemeteries. With a Crematorium, you are able to empty your cemeteries even more quickly to make room for more dead bodies.

Note that I said “alongside” your Cemeteries. While it might seem like the Crematoriums are an upgrade that makes Cemeteries useless, they are not. Do NOT bulldozer your existing Cemeteries to make way for a Crematorium. You need them both! They work together to rid your city of bodies. Getting rid of the cemetery altogether will only exacerbate the body problem.

We hope this solves any issues you have with dead bodies piling up. Make sure you check out our other Cities: Skylines guides for more tips and tricks for making your city work even better!
