GTA 5 Online: How to Become a Cop

GTA 5 Online players have discovered a fun glitch in the game that allows players to load a save game as a police officer. This trick was possible only in offline mode, but now you can achieve the same without any extra mods in online mode as well. Our guide will provide you with all the steps on how to become a cop in GTA 5 Online, including both offline and online modes.

How to Become a Cop in GTA 5 Online

Becoming a Cop in Offline Mode

It’s really easy to start playing as a police officer in the story mode of GTA 5 Online. All you need to do is follow these steps:

1. Open Rockstar Editor app.
2. Select “Director Mode” option.
3. Go to “Actors” tab.
4. Open “Emergency Services” menu.
5. Select “LSPD” option to become a cop.

Unfortunately, you can’t do the same in online mode, but there’s a workaround that you might want to try. I need to mention that the entire process is quite long, so I’ll break it into several parts for your convenience.

Becoming a Cop in Online Mode

Step 1: Create New Character

The most important requirement for becoming a cop in online mode is to start the game from scratch, so don’t try to become a cop on a saved game. Please follow all the steps exactly as they’re listed here:

1. Start GTA 5 Online from scratch on a new account.
2. Finish the prologue mission “Franklin and Lamar” as usual.
3. Find and eat a Peyote plant.
4. Turn into a bird and start flying in a hallucination.
5. When in flight, press and hold “Right” direction button to end the hallucination.
6. Go to the game’s main menu.
7. Go to “Online” tab.
8. Select “Play GTA Online” option.
9. Press “GO” to confirm.

Now you can actually create a new character in the game, and be sure to skip the Tutorial, as it won’t be needed for what we’re doing next. Also note that during the Peyote hallucination, if you turn into a hen, this method won’t work, but any other bird will.

Step 2: Delete New Character

The next step involves removing your character from the game in a specific manner, as listed here:

1. Go to the game’s main menu.
2. Go to “Online” tab.
3. Select “Swap Character” option.
4. Confirm that you want to delete your character.
5. Start a new game at the prologue mission.
6. Open Rockstar Editor app.
7. Select “Director Mode” option.
8. Go to “Animals” tab and select “Pigeon.”
9. Fly as a pigeon onto a highway and hit any incoming car.

In this way, the pigeon should die, and you should see the “Wasted” message on your screen. When you return to the prologue in “Director Mode,” you’ll get the chance to turn your character into a police officer in online mode.

Step 3: Become a Police Officer

Now you need to create a quick save in the costume of a police officer:

1. Open “Emergency Services” menu.
2. Select “LSPD” option to become a cop.
3. Go back to Rockstar Editor main menu.
4. Select “Exit Story Mode” option.
5. Make a quick save as a police officer.

Be sure to remember the name of the save as well as the time and date. You’ll need this information for the later parts of this guide.

Step 4: Load Save as a Police Officer

The final step is most important, and if you can’t get it right, then this glitch won’t work. Here’s how it goes:

1. Go to the game’s main menu.
2. Go to “Online” tab.
3. Select “Play GTA Online” option.
4. Start “Invite Only Session” game.
5. If the game tutorial starts, do the following:
   1. Go to the game’s main menu.
   2. Go to “Online” tab.
   3. Select “Swap Character” option.
   4. Confirm that you want to quit the session.
   5. Select “Save and Continue” in the character menu.
   6. Get your character killed.
   7. Swap character again and confirm.
6. Load the save game with a police officer uniform that you created in the previous step.

If you did everything right, the game should glitch out. It’ll load your saved game, but only for a short moment, at which point you need to be quick to open the game’s main menu and load into online. If you missed it, the game will shut down, so just try repeating the same steps I listed above until you get it. When you finally get it and load the online mode, your character will finally appear as a police officer.
