Hogwarts Legacy: How to Get Avada Kedavra

Want to learn Avada Kedavra in Hogwarts Legacy? This is how.

Avada Kedavra, the Killing Curse, is one of the last spells in Hogwarts Legacy you have the ability to learn. The worst of the Unforgivable Curses, it’s primarily used by Dark Wizards to get rid of those in their way. With no morality system in the game, using the spell is less of an issue. Here’s how to get Avada Kedavra in Hogwarts Legacy. Late-game spoilers follow.

As with the Crucio and Imperio, the other two Unforgivable Curses, Slytherin student Sebastian Sallow is the one with the knowledge.

You’ll need to play through his quest line and have completed “In the Shadow of Hope.” You must also complete the main quest, “Lodgok’s Loyalty,” and be at least Level 28. Once these requirements are met, the quest will trigger.

You’ll be summoned to the Feldcroft Catacomb via Owl. When you arrive, Anne is in hysterics, and Ominis is attempting to calm her down. You have to fight your way through the catacomb to get to Sebastian, who has raised a horde of Inferni. Confringo and Incendio are must-have spells for this quest.

Accio is needed to build a bone ramp up to where Sebastian is, which triggers a cutscene. At this time, Sebastian’s uncle, Solomon, will arrive and start attacking you both. You must defeat Uncle Solomon, even if you don’t want to.

After some cutscenes, you’ll have a conversation with Sebastian. This is when you’re prompted to either say no one should know that curse, referring to Avada Kedavra, or that everyone should know that curse. Pick that everyone should know it to learn the Killing Curse.

While the Killing Curse is useful against certain enemies, larger ones like trolls can take multiple hits due to their large health pools. I found that using it against human bosses took most of the fun out of the combat. Eventually, I elected to remove it from equipped spells.

How to Learn Avada Kedavra Later

If you originally selected that, no one should know the curse. There’s an opportunity later in the game to learn Avada Kedavra if you missed it. There are a few things during the completion of Sebastian’s relationship quest line you need to do to get the opportunity, however. This hinges on not turning Sebastian in.

If you side with Anne and turn him in, you’ll lose the opportunity to learn Avada Kedavra. Once you have opted not to turn him in and fully completed his questline, you can head to the Undercroft to learn it from him at any time.

That’s how to get Avada Kedavra in Hogwarts Legacy. To see what other quests are included in Sebastian’s quest line or anything else, check out our Hogwarts Legacy guides collection.
