Honkai: Star Rail – Stellar Flare Event Quest Guide

There's a new limited-time event in Honkai: Star Rail. Here's how it works and how to beat it.

With a new Character Event Warp in Honkai: Star Rail, there’s bound to be some new activities to go along with the latest addition to the roster. Launching with the Luocha limited banner is a time-gated activity called Stellar Warp. This event is a different breed of combat challenge, and is a kind of mix between Forgotten Hall and a wave-based gauntlet. The rewards are well worth your time, but only if you have a team that can handle the event. It’s not easy. Here’s how we beat Stellar Warp.

How to Complete Stellar Flare Quest in Honkai: Star Rail

Screenshot by GameSkinny
  • The Stellar Flare event is running from June 28 to July 10.
  • Each day of the Stellar Flare event will bring new challenges.

When you first log in to HSR after June 28, you’ll get a message from a researcher on Herta’s Space Station named Grumpy who has a task for you. Speak to her in the Master Control Zone to start the activity, activated from the nearby computer.

Stellar Flare is a simple concept. You have to defeat multiple waves of enemies in very limited timeframes. And to reap all the rewards, you need to do so across three increasing difficulties: Dwarf Star, Giant Star, and Supergiant Star. Each Star tier increases the health and level of the enemies you fight, but the enemies themselves don’t change.

The event is also time gated, with a new crop of enemies appearing every day for the first week of the event. With every group, you will receive a different buff and the enemy toughness and weaknesses will change. And, so long as you can complete the tasks written in gold lettering on the activity start page, you get the rewards. You don’t have to defeat every enemy that comes your way. On my full clear of stage one, I was allowed to leave the boss alive provided I defeated all the enemies required.

Stellar Flare Day One Trial: Take Their Lives While They’re Sick

Day one of Stellar Flare pits you against a Grizzly robot boss and all three kinds of robot mobs: the healing Automaton Hound, shielding Automaton Beetle, and the exploding Automaton Spider. The strategy for completing the reward tasks revolves around the boss phase. You want the boss to summon its two exploding helpers, raising the number of enemies by two and increasing them significantly in the Supergiant stage with multiple boss fights.

For this first grouping, I highly suggest bringing and AoE Lightning character — Serval if you don’t have Jing Yuan — as their Ultimate will be up almost 100% of the time, providing tons of extra damage and keeping the enemies locked down. Alternately, having a team of single-target specialists that can hit the enemies weaknesses hard enough that they always have their Ultimates at the ready also works. My team was Silver Wolf, Seele, Serval, and Natasha, though in hindsight, trading Nat for Tingyun might have been a play, given how brief the fights are. The Trial version of Arlan is kind of a beast, as well.

In any event, here are the three stages for the first day of Stellar Flare:

Stellar Flare Day One Dwarf Star Rewards

  • Task: Eliminate two waves of enemies in three rounds.
  • Enemy level: Your Trailblaze Level character level floor (i.e. 60 at Trailblaze Level 5)
  • Player Buff: Breaking an enemy’s weakness instantly refills the breaker’s Ultimate energy
  • Enemy strength: 40%
  • Wave one enemies: Two Automaton Hounds, one Beetle
  • Wave two enemies: One Grizzly, two Automaton Spiders (with more summoned by the boss)
  • Reward: 30 Stellar Jade, 3 Traveler’s Guides, 30,000 Credits

Stellar Flare Day One Giant Star Rewards

  • Task: Eliminate two waves of enemies in three rounds..
  • Enemy level: Your Trailblaze Level character level floor +5 (i.e. 65 at Trailblaze Level 5)
  • Player Buff: Breaking an enemy’s weakness instantly refills the breaker’s Ultimate energy
  • Enemy strength: 100%
  • Wave one enemies: Two Automaton Hounds, one Beetle
  • Wave two enemies: One Grizzly, two Automaton Spiders (with more summoned by the boss)
  • Reward: 30 Stellar Jade, 5 Keys of Knowledge (Erudition upgrade material)

Stellar Flare Day One Supergiant Star Rewards

  • Task One: Eliminate three waves of enemies in three rounds.
  • Task Two: Eliminate six waves of enemies within three rounds.
  • Reward for Task One: 15 Relic Remains, 5 Lost Gold Fragments
  • Reward for Task Two: 5 Relic Remains, 20,000 Credits

The game will store your round between enemy waves, meaning if you cleared everything in the first wave within a single round, you’ll start the next wave on round one, and so on. Turn order is reset so you have a full suite of turns every wave.

Stellar Flare Day Two Trial: Septenary Woe, Annihilation

Screenshot by GameSkinny

The second combat challenge of Stellar Flare pits you against two new waves of enemies and a new boss. You’ll be fighting Vagrants, Automaton Hounds, and Searing Prowler Robots. You don’t have the ability to activate effectively infinite Ultimates this time around, with the challenge buff instead trading HP for guaranteed critical hits and increasing your whole party’s Attack rating. You will need a leveled healer for this, and luckily, the Trial character for this challenge is a level 65 Luocha. I highly suggest you use him, as you’ll be spending HP like candy if you want all the rewards.

For the first wave, take out the Vagrant first, as his damage output is higher and he can give the other robots extra turns. The robots can also heal each other, but not for very much. The second wave is two Searing Prowler bosses, so if you don’t have Silver Wolf to create weaknesses, I recommend bringing someone like Pela, Serval, or Jing Yuan (provided you have them). My team was Seele, Silver Wolf, Tingyun, and the trial Luocha.

You will want a main DPS worth their salt, and you should use your Skills and Ultimates relatively liberally, or as liberally as your healer will allow. Every Skill used increases your whole team’s attack by 50% for two turns, and this both stacks up to eight times and refreshes the turn count with every Skill or Ultimate used, so your DPS, and even your supports can provide some supplementary damage if they have the ability.

  • Wave one enemies: One Vagrant, Two Automaton Hounds
  • Wave two enemies: One Grizzly, two Automaton Spiders (with more summoned by the boss)

Stellar Flare Day Three Trial: Contagious Psyche Bomb

Screenshot by GameSkinny

Day three of Stellar Flare changes things once again. Your opponents this time are Silvermane Guards, with the bosses being the especially annoying, shield-bearing Silvername Lieutenants. The rewards tasks are the same as ever, but the means of acquiring them are different. The player buff for this round revolves around Weakness Breaking. Specifically, if you break a single target’s Toughness, every enemy still on the field will also break. There are always at least three enemies available, so the Trial Himeko (or a Himeko of your own) will always counterattack after the first break.

The catch is finishing any enemies that still stand after being broken. While being broken by the mechanic does increase the damage enemies take by 40% (a debuff that can stack up to 12 times), you’ll also want to invest in Break Effect, and for the boss rounds against the Lieutenants, you need to be careful about which enemy you break. You also need to use your Ultimates wisely, especially those of your main DPS character. I lost a few of my Supergiant runs because I didn’t have Seele’s Ult ready, leaving me just one or two enemies short of the final reward. How you play will likely differ from me depending on your team, as my team was Silver Wolf, Seele, (Trial) Himeko, and Natasha.

I don’t think you need to worry about the Lieutenant counterattack as much in this particular situation, but as the enemies grow more powerful in the Supergiant section, you’ll need to better prioritize which you damage and when so you can clear the field before running out of turns.

Stellar Flare Day Four Trial: Limited Firepower

Screenshot by GameSkinny

Day four of Stellar Flare was by far the most complicated for me to complete, as it revolves around buffing your DPS units specifically, and your team more generally. If you don’t already have hypercarry team with a primary DPS and two buffing characters, I highly suggest working toward one. Even if you don’t have Seele, Yanqing, or Suchang (among others), you can still invest in the likes of Dan Heng or Physical Trailblazer.

In any event, to complete Limited Firepower, you need to make full use of the daily character buff, which comes in two parts. First, using Skills costs nothing, meaning even Skill point-hungry teams can go crazy here. Second, and most importantly, when you use a Skill or Ultimate on an Ally their Critical Rate and damage increase by 20% and 60% respectively. The buff can stack two times, for 40% and 120% bonuses. This increase works great for a character like Seele who thrives on Critical Damage, and if your DPS has at least 80% Crit Rate, buffing them even once guarantees they will always get a critical hit.

My team was Seele, Yukong, Tingyun, and Natasha, and as you might expect, every time it was available, I was buffing Seele into the stratosphere. I was able to take out most of the basic Silvermane enemies in a single Skill, with even the Cannoneers being fairly easy to take care of. The problem comes against the Lieutenant, as you don’t always want to blast them right away.

To complete the Supergiant Star phase, you can’t rely on damage alone. Like in previous parts of Stellar Flare, you need to do a little farming, as the Silvermane Lieutenants will summon two more Silvermane Soldiers, and you’ll need to take them out to ensure you complete the final reward task before wave nine. You also need to clear each boss wave smartly. Defeat the Lieutenant too quickly and he won’t summon his additional Soldiers. Clear the mobs too slowly and you’ll run out of turns. Don’t worry if you don’t get all the rewards right away. It took me a few tries to get the pattern down.

Stellar Flare Day Five Trial: It’s My Turn!

Screenshot by GameSkinny

Day five of Stellar Flare isn’t as difficult as day four, but it’s not easy either. We’re back to fighting robots, so at first glance, you’d think Lightning characters would be best. In my opinion, you’d be wrong, and the developers seem to think so, too. Welt is the Trial character, and there’s a good reason. The bosses — two Direwolf units — are weak to Imaginary, and you can build Welt to be a primary DPS with debuff abilities.

Couple that with the daily player buff, which increases Ultimate damage up to 300% when you use your Skill, and Welt (yours or the Trial) can not only dish out massive damage but control enemy turn order by a massive amount. The 300% Ultimate damage buff also doesn’t reset within an individual enemy set, so as long as your main damage dealer uses three Skill points, their Ult will stay at the 3x multiplier.

When a new group of enemies appears, however, the buffs reset, as does the turn order, so you’ll need to be smart about your Skill allocation. Go into the boss round with only one or two on tap and you might run out of turns before you can start dealing real damage. I recommend saving your Ultimates for the boss phase as well, unless you’ve invested in Energy Regeneration Relics and/or have a character like Seele who can get their Ult back relatively quickly.

Stellar Flare Day Six Trial: More Than Ice and Fire

Screenshot by GameSkinny

The sixth challenge in Stellar Flare is a tricky one. There’s no boss fight here, only standard mobs with a lot of health. It’s unlikely you’ll be able to one-shot anything, even the little birdie-looking enemies, unless you’ve heavily invested in every character in your roster and likely spent at least a bit of real-world money. Thankfully, the challenge is doable without spending a cent (I didn’t). However, you’ll need to make use of the characters the game provides, as well as the best characters you’ve built to this point.

You’ll need to make good use of this rounds party buff as well, which increases your Break Effect by 100% and inflicts every damage over time effect that would otherwise occur when the enemy’s weakness breaks. In other words, even if you use Seele, Quinque, or Silver Wolf to break an enemy’s Quantum weakness, if they had WInd and LIghtning as well, they’d also take the DoT damage from Wind Shear and Shock. And the rub is, you will need all that damage to defeat the enemies, so I highly recommend taking the Trial Serval if yours, like mine, isn’t up to snuff. You might also want a Fire and Ice character, who can be Fire Trailblazer and March 7th if you don’t have access to Pela or Hook, but you should have Asta and Herta as a last resort. If you have Jing Yuan, he works wonders here.

Be careful about when you use your Ultimates, as they’re best served to finish enemies with lots of remaining health or one-shotting anything you know you can take down in one hit. My team was a bit different — Silver Wolf, Seele, Serval, and Natasha— meaning I had a good option to break Weaknesses regardless of who I was fighting with. I highly recommend you do the same.

Stellar Flare Day Seven Trial: FeLiNa

Screenshot by GameSkinny

If you like using your Ultimate, the seventh Stellar Flare challenge is for you. The character buff not only increases all Energy regeneration (Ultimate usage generation) by 50%, using them regenerates 10 for all allies and increases their Crit Rate by 5% and Criti Damge by 15%, stacking up to 10 times. In other words, if you have Ultimates, use them. However, you will also want characters that regenerate energy, and the game gives you a Trial Tingyun if you don’t already have one. Her Ult provides 50 energy to whoever receives it. If you have Seele (yes, I know I’m a broken record) or another main DPS, I suggest using Tingyun’s Skill and Ultimate on them, though you will want something to break the boss’s weakness (Fire, Frost, or Imaginary).

I’m also not sure I recommend using a healer for this challenge, either, as damage output is so much more important this time around. Plus, in an ideal situation, you clear each wave in only one turn, meaning the enemy shouldn’t have a chance to attack at all, precluding the need for a healer altogether. My team was Seele, Silver Wolf, Yukong, and Luocha, so hitting weaknesses for that team wasn’t too difficult. If you don’t have that exact setup, Jing Yuan is a good substitute DPS, and Dan Heng can be a fantastic free-to-play option, should you need him.

Stellar Flare Day Eight Trial: Comatose for but a Second

Screenshot by GameSkinny

The eighth and final challenge in Stellar Flare is once again about Break Effect, but with a different twist. For this round, you need as much ability to break weakness as possible, and your raw damage output also needs to be high, because the damage over time dealt for weakness breaking is directly proportional to the damage of the attack that broke said weakness (record scratch).

Put another way, every time you break an enemy’s weakness (which will be often), the damage over time they take will be affected by the damage of the base attack. This is the core assumption of the character buff, which provides a 100% buff to Break Effect, but when an enemy’s weakness breaks, their Toughness immediately refills, but any DoT on them immediately goes into effect — on top of the Break damage — at 80% of the damage that did the breaking (with me still?)

There’s no stacking buff this time, either, and enemies have enough health that one-shotting them, even with a heavily invested Seele, might not be possible. I recommend bringing Sampo, of all characters (even the Trial one) as his Wind element breaks all the enemies, and his Ultimate applies multiple stacks of Wind Shear. You’ll also want a Fire and Lightning character — I used Hook and Serval — for additional Break, plus any other DPS that can supplement the DoTs. If you have Jing Yuan, use him alongside Serval. I didn’t and stuck with Seele, who did fine, but she very much played second fiddle, a position she rarely occupies.
