How to Complete Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Completing steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge isn't as easy as it seems

If you want some of the better mid-to-late game gear in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you’ll need to know how to complete the Steel Resolve, Blazing Forge quest, accessible in the game’s second act. The quest is involved and takes you to some dangerous places through a meat grinder, but it’s more than worth the effort.

How to Complete the Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge Quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2

The first thing you need to do on your journey to complete Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is to complete its predecessor quest, Dulled Steel, Cold Forge. At its conclusion, you start Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge, and it doesn’t take long for things to ramp up.

Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge Step 1: Wait for Sara to Think

Passing time is a central part of Dragon’s Dogma 2, and at the start of the Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge quest, you’ll need to give Sara one in-game day to think about how to proceed.

She needs to employ a tool called a blazehammer, a hammer specially treated in a bed of lava and then used as quickly as possible before the heat dissipates. She’s not initially sure what to do, so give her at least a single day to think on things.

Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge Step 2: Go After Sara

Whether you return to Brokkr’s shop after sleeping for a day at a nearby inn or at your personal dwelling in Bakbattahl, or after some longer span, you’ll find that Sara is nowhere to be found. Brokkr opines that she’s run off to Mountain Base Cave in search of the right lava to craft a blazehammer. The problem for you? Mountain Base Cave is in the southernmost region of the Agamen Volcanic Island.

Oh, and to actually reach the island, you need to either have passed through the otherwise shut spelldoor southeast of Bakbattahl palace or take the even more treacherous route through Drabnir’s Grotto, situated at the southern end of the main road in Battahl.

The grotto is something of a maze, and you’ll need to traverse not only its cramped, monster-filled corridors but also the thin walkways on mountainsides. I strongly recommend you get to around level 35 before tackling this part of Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge, because the foes you’ll face on the way to Sara will eat you alive otherwise.

Even with my full party of leveled pawns at around level 40, I had one heck of a time, thanks to the environmental hazards and hordes of strong enemies you have to fight. More than one of my pawns got lost to the Brine.

Once you’re out of the Grotto, continue east until you reach the mountain pass that leads to the Mountain Base Cave.

Befitting its status as an active volcano, the whole of the Cave is filled with lava and fire-elemental creatures. Bring Ice spells and effects. Don’t be like me and have your mage apply fire buffs. You’ll only make things much more annoying.

You’ll also want to make a note of how you get to Sara’s location because that path will be very important later. The path is fairly straightforward but goes something like this:

  • Enter the cave and just past the room with the magma ooze, keep right past the breakable wall.
  • Follow the path until you reach a large room with magma lizard enemies. Then, take the lower path that descends and leads more to the east. If you take the more northern path, you’ll eventually loop back around.
  • At the intersection, keep south.
  • Continue down into the depths of the cave and stay on the lowest level. You’ll run into a ramp on the right that leads upward. Ignore it and keep left until you climb up onto a platform of more worked stones. Just a bit beyond the climb-up point, you’ll see an opening to your left where Sara is currently heating the blazehammer.
  • Speak to Sara at the lava flow.

Now, your knowledge of the Mountain Base Cave layout becomes massively important. Your task becomes escaping the place while Sara’s hammer is still hot from the lava treatment. You have about three minutes to go all the way back to the entrance and to the small skiff Sara set up to get her home. All you need to do is retrace the steps you took to get to her in the first place, and she’ll give you regular updates on the hammer’s heat level, as well as how far you are from the entrance.

If you make it out in time, Sara will thank you for the help and take her boat back to Bakbattahl. Failing to get out in time likely results in a ruined hammer and a failed quest, so do your damnedest to get out before the hammer cools completely.

Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge Step 4: Return to Sara in Bakbattahl

Now for the next tricky bit. Unless you have a Ferrystone to take you off the Volcanic Island, there are only two ways to get back to the capital on foot. You’ll need to go either through Drabnir’s Grotto in reverse or through the spelldoor near the palace — but only if it’s already opened. I learned the hard way that it doesn’t just magically open if you approach from the south.

However you make it back to Sara, when you do reach her, speak to her, and she’ll work diligently with Brokkr’s guidance to fix the Regalia Sword, giving it to you on completion.

Now it’s all the way back to Vernworth with you to give the sword to Roman, the knight who originally set you on the Dulled Sword, Cold Forged quest. You’ll find him in the Royal Quarter, as usual, and once you give him the Restored Regaila Sword, you’ll receive 6,000 XP and a whopping 35,000 gold.

Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge Step 6: Return to Sara in Bakbattahl

The long journey is almost over. Make your way back to Bakbattahl whenever you have the chance, and speak to Sara once again. Now, she’s putting all of Brokkr’s teachings to good use, selling some very powerful items at a 5% discount.

You’ll find a similar stock of items and gear at Volcanic Island Camp to the east of Mountain Base Cave, but you’ll pay full price, and that store is, shall we say, out of the way. I didn’t know to have a Ferrystone handy for Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge, and was massively overburdened from all the loot from the Cave and the surroundings. Had I not found the camp, I don’t want to think about the way back to Bakbattahl.

In any event, once you return to Sara at the end of the quest, you’ll have successfully completed Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge. It’s a long, irksome process, but between the discount on later-game gear and much easier access to it, I’d say the effort was well worth the reward.
