Knowing how to find X marks the spot with a treasure map is a must in Skull and Bones.

How to Get Treasure Maps in Skull and Bones

There a couple of different ways to obtain a treasure map. Some are given as parts of quests, while others can be looted while exploring the world. Some quests, such as Relics of the Past, give you a treasure map to point you toward an item needed by NPCs.

You can also find Treasure Maps as loot, pointing to riches and spoils not tied to a specific questline or missons. So far, I’ve only found them in floating loot at sea. While using the Spyglass, focus on items bobbing in the water. As long as you’re close enough, you’ll learn what the item is.

For larger caches from downed ships or recent naval engagements, you’ll get a list of items. Look for the scroll icon and see if it says “Treasure Map.”

How to Find Treasure by Solving Treasure Map Clues

Once you have a treasure map in hand, solve it to actually find the loot. In the example below, I received a map noted as the Reef Sea map. The larger, central image is where to find the anchor point in the world. The sketch in the top right is the marker you must look for when searching on land.

When looking at the scroll, I compared the outline of the land to the area I could see on my world map. A nice feature of Skull and Bones is the outline of the continents, which appear even if you haven’t discovered that area of land yet. This let me pinpoint a general area to look in, specifically for a Settlement or Outpost I could dock at.

Further, look at the snippet of text that’s at the top of the map. Sometimes it directly points you to the specific location you need to set sail for, gives a hint, or provides lore of the area.

After you’ve docked and loaded in as a landlubber, an alert appears saying the treasure is in the location if you’re in the correct area. If you weren’t tracking it before, you get another chance to add a tracker.

How to Find the Exact Area of a Treasure

Explore the land to find an area that has an orange glow near it. Depending on how well it’s hidden, you may be able to see it from a distance. This glow is where the treasure is. Go up to it for a prompt to dig up the chest to trigger. Inside you’ll find your quarry.

That’s how to find and solve treasure maps in Skull and Bones. Whether you’re looking to start over, need quest walkthroughs, or want to know what to sell to earn money fast, take a look at out bounty of guides.
