How to Get Fuel in Manor Lords

Fuel is essential to keep your citizens warm and settlement running with maximum Approval ratings in Manor Lords. You can get Fuel from Firewood or Charcoal. Firewood can be collected from a Woodcutter’s Lodge near a forest, and Charcoal is harvested from a Charcoal Kiln. If you’re like me and trudging along through the seasons, it won’t take you long to learn that Firewood isn’t enough to sustain your citizens in the chill of winter. Charcoal is the superior fuel source and is the first resource I recommend you focus on.

How to Unlock the Charcoal Kiln

To farm Charcoal, you’ll need a Charcoal Kiln. You’ll find the Charcoal Kiln under the Construction tab for resources. However, you can’t build it without unlocking it in your development tree first, and like most things in Manor Lords, it’s a bit unclear how to do so. First, you’ll need to level up your Burgage Plots to Level 1 to unlock your first skill point. To level up Burgage Plots, you’ll need to construct a Well, Church, Fuel Stall, Clothing Stall, and Food Stall.

Once you’ve done so, you’ll find the Charcoal Kiln at the bottom of the skill tree’s Development page. You can access the skill tree by selecting your settlement’s name from the top menu bar. You’ll notice plenty of other options, but I highly recommend you opt for the Charcoal Kiln first.

Once you’ve unlocked it, the Charcoal Kiln costs a measly two wood to construct. You can build the structure anywhere, but I recommend placing it near your Wood supply for maximum efficiency. It’s best to avoid forcing your citizens to trek long distances with the Ox. The Kiln converts one Firewood into two Charcoal, doubling your Fuel output. So, it’s a great way to put any concerns about Fuel on the back burner. I saw my approval ratings skyrocket to 100% after I got my Fuel issues sorted with the Kiln. Winters were no longer dreaded, and more citizens began moving into my settlement.

That covers how to get Fuel in Manor Lords. We’ll keep this list updated as we progress in the game with more Stall resources and any other tips and tricks to get Fuel in the game. For more useful hints, check out our Manor Lords hub.
