Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge — How to Make Megaponds (All Shape Combos)

Megaponds of different shapes attract certain kinds of bugs in Kamaeru. Here's how to make each one.

Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge is all about caring for the native frog population and restoring their habitats. This means you’ll need to consider what each species likes to eat. After that, you can plan your layout of the wetlands and other biomes accordingly. Making megaponds is a big part of the process, as this will raise carbon capture and attract specific types of insects to the area. Here’s a rundown of all megapond shapes in Kamaeru and how to make them.

How to Make All Megapond Shapes in Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge

Megaponds are made by combining two basic pond shapes in Kamaeru. However, random combos won’t work here. Rather, you’ll need to use specific shapes to achieve your desired result. While adding megaponds to the wetlands is generally a good idea, you’ll also want to consider which bugs gravitate toward each type of megapond. Before you start digging, it’s a smart move to double-check your current bioscore and the spawn rates of native insects to see where you can improve and which species need the most help.

Shape #1 – Caterpillars

Caterpillars will show up more frequently when you put together a basic C-shape pond and two small, parallel ponds. The resulting shape is long and straight, with a divot at one end. This megapond isn’t level-locked, so you can make it as soon as you unlock the ability to combine ponds.

Shape #2 – Diving Beetles

You’ll find more diving beetles in the wetlands with a combination of the deep U-shaped pond and the L-shaped option. When fused together, you’ll get a wide megapond with inlets on either end. You’ll need to reach Level 3 to gain access to the required basics for this one.

Shape #3 – Dragonflies

To bring more dragonflies to the wetlands, you can combine the two L-shaped ponds with small attachments at their ends. Just be sure to place them properly, as the connection won’t take place if the wrong sides are lined up. When you get it right, you’ll have a long, slim megapond to work with. The two basic shapes are unlocked at Level 6, the highest of the bunch.

How to Get All Pond Shape Combos in Kamaeru

After you place your first pond in Kamaeru, you can head back to the shop in the wetlands to purchase the rest of the pond shapes under the Tech tab. There are six basic shapes in total, used in combinations of two to make megaponds.

Each pair is locked by level and will cost incrementally more coins. You’ll have just two options to get started. As you level up and put away more savings by selling jam, candy, boxes, and such, you’ll quickly earn enough money to buy the remaining pond shapes.

With access to all three types of megaponds in Kamaeru, you’ll start to see a wider variety of insects arrive in the area and loads more frogs. For more tips on managing the refuge and raising biodiversity, take a leap over to our Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge guides hub.
