How to Fix Crashing in Lords of the Fallen

While Lords of the Fallen has received positive reviews since launch, the Steam reviews have taken a major hit from the crashing bug. So, rest assured the developers over at Hexworks are highly motivated to find a fix for PC players. At this moment, they’re still working on a definitive fix for the crashing issue with LotF. However, a workaround was discovered and announced in Patch v.1.1.193 over on Steam. Here’s how to complete the workaround:

  • Go to “X:\Steam\steamapps\common\The Lords of the Fallen”
  • Right-click on “LOTF2.exe” — Click on Properties
  • Go to the Compatibility tab.
  • Activate compatibility with Windows 8.
  • Disable fullscreen optimizations.
  • Run this program as an administrator.

Additionally, you can improve your gameplay performance by following some troubleshooting steps. I recommend you take these steps to further improve LotF on your PC:

  • Use “Auto-Set” option in the graphics settings.
    • Settings > Graphics > Auto-detect quality > Auto-set.
  • Update your graphics driver.

If you’re experiencing crashes, the dev team encourages you to send crash reports through Sentry. To send a crash report, simply press “send” on the crash reporter when it pops up on your PC. The Sentry Report Tool has helped Hexworks fix four stability issues, so it’s certainly worth the click. Additionally, you can reach out to the dev team at [email protected] for additional assistance. Here’s what to include in the email:

  • Total hours played.
  • Steps you took to encounter the bug(s).
  • A copy of your GPU Debugging log.
    • Steam > Settings > Enter command: “-gpucrashdebugging” > Launch LotF > Encounter crash > Find the logs at X:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\LOTF2\Saved\Logs\LOTF2.log.
  • The text within the pop-up crash reporter window.

As of right now, that’s all there is to know about how to fix crashing in Lords of the Fallen. We’ll keep this guide updated with any future patches. You can find more tips and tricks for LotF at our guides hub here.
