If you’re playing Outpath with hunger and rest needs enabled, you’ll need to eat. Indeed, survival elements here aren’t just for show. They matter. Catching fish is a great way to get food and boost those meters. Unfortunately, the fishing mechanic is a bit obtuse and unclear. Here’s how to fish in Outpath.

How to Fish in Outpath

While you won’t see fish in Oupath’s endless water, you can catch them if you unlock a fishing rod. However, you’ll need to complete a few steps to get the fishing rod recipe. Here’s how to craft a fishing rod:

• Craft a basic Work Bench.
• Craft a Research Table at the Work Bench.
• Research the Furnace recipe at the Research Table.
• Research the Spinning Wheel recipe at the Research Table.
• Craft a Fishing Rod at the Spinning Wheel.
  • x30 Wood.
  • x8 Thread.
  • x1 Copper Ingot.

How to Catch Fish

Once you’ve got your fishing rod ready, you’re ready to fish. However, you’ll quickly learn that the fishing mini-game isn’t the most intuitive. Follow these steps:

• Equip Fishing Rod from your inventory.
  • Tab > Tools > RMB.
• Approach water and cast Rod with LMB.
• Once the fishing mini-game begins, continuously click LMB (or hold) while the white bar is within the fish’s target.
  • When within the target, you’ll slow the fish. 
  • If you hold the target too long, the white bar will push in the opposite direction.
  • The white bar will turn red when you’re about to lose the fish.
