Tips for Beating Mega Blastoise in Pokemon GO

Mega Blastoise Attacks

Mega Blastoise has two Fast Attacks: Bite (Dark) or Water Gun (Water). If you come across it in Battle League, it will most likely have Water Gun, as it benefits from the Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB). While it only has two possible Fast Attacks, it can have a wide variety of Charged Attacks:

  • Flash Cannon (Steel)
  • Ice Beam (Ice)
  • Hydro Pump (Water)
  • Hydro Cannon (Water)
  • Skull Bash (Normal)
  • Return (Normal)

If you’re facing Mega Blastoise in a Raid, it won’t have Return. That move is for Purified Pokemon. It also won’t have Hydro Cannon, as it can only learn it from being evolved during the 2023 Community Day Classic featuring Squirtle, or from an Elite TM.

The best moveset for this Pokemon in the Battle League is Water Gun and Hydro Cannon, with Water Gun and Hydro Pump as the second best alternative for trainers who don’t have the Elite TM.

Mega Blastoise Weaknesses

Blastoise is a pure Water Pokemon, making it weak to Electric and Grass type moves. Since its only type is Water, it’s resistant to:

  • Steel
  • Fire
  • Water
  • Ice

You want to avoid bringing Pokemon who are weak to Water moves into battle. Rock, Ground, and Fire Pokemon will inflict little damage while taking massive damage themselves.

Best Mega Blastoise Counters

The best Mega Blastoise counters are Pokemon that it’s weak to that also have resistance to Water. Some of these include:

  • Kartana: Razor Leaf, Leaf Blade
  • Zekrom: Charge Beam, Fusion Bolt, Wild Charge
  • Roserade: Razor Leaf, Solar Beam, Grass Knot
  • Zarude: Vine Whip, Power Whip
  • Rillaboom: Razor Leaf, Grass Knot, Energy Ball
  • Tapu Bulu: Bullet Seed, Grass Knot, Solar Beam

That’s what you need to know to beat Mega Blastoise in Pokemon GO, including its attacks, weaknesses, and the best counters to use against it. It can have a variety of Charged Attacks, but focusing it down with Grass and Electric type attacks will make the battle end quickly. For more Raid tips for Pokemon GO, check out our PoGO guides hub.
