Purchase the DLC

The first thing you need to do is to purchase the DLC from the Eshop for $34.99. After you purchase the DLC, make sure to update your game and system.

The Base Game

Do you have to beat the main story start The Teal Mask DLC? Nope! Luckily, if you didn’t finish the main story quest, you still have access to the Land of Kitakami! However, you do have to make some story progress before being able to.

  • To start the Teal Mask DLC in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, you only have to unlock the Treasure Hunt Mission.

Once the requirements are met, you’ll get a call from Professor Jacq. He’ll tell you you’re going on a special trip to the Land of Kitakami and to meet him in the academy’s entrance hall. Once you enter, you’ll have to talk to Briar to start your new adventure

There will be a long cutscene where Briar and Professor Jacq explain that you were chosen with a handful of other students to participate in an exchange program. After their explanation, you begin your trip to the Land of Kitakami to start your new adventure.

Teal Mask DLC Level Scaling

If you’re worried about the levels of the Pokemon and trainers in the Land of Kitakami, they have that covered for you as well! The Teal Mask has a new level scaling mechanic. This means that the Pokemon and trainers will be around the same level that you are in the main game. Because of this, I recommend that you play the DLC either after the main story or at the beginning of a new game.
