Chingling is one of the many Pokemon that evolve with high friendship. That said, there’s just one catch: once you’ve managed to befriend this Pokemon, you’ll have to level it up at night for its evolution to take place. If you’re familiar with the process of evolving Eevee into Umbreon, then you’ll find Chingling’s evolution similar.

Fortunately, the day/night cycle in Scarlet & Violet isn’t based in real-time. You’ll just need to wait until the sun sets over Kitakami to trigger Chingling’s evolution into Chimecho. Between the evening and night phases of the cycle, you’ll have roughly 36 minutes to evolve your Pokemon.

Pro tip: You can always use a Rare Candy to ensure the evolution is quickly completed once Chingling’s friendship is sufficient.

Raising Chingling’s Friendship

Like other friendship-dependent evolutions, evolving Chingling into Chimecho will require a bit of work. If you caught your Pokemon in a Luxury Ball, then you already have a head start. However, there are several bonding methods that you can practice to boost Chingling’s friendship in no time.

In the process of evolving my own Chingling, I’ve found one of the most efficient ways to raise friendship is to equip the Soothe Bell and battle with my Pokemon. Once it’s taken a solid amount of damage, set up a picnic and bathe your Pokemon. Not only will this help to increase its friendship level, but it will conveniently replenish your Pokemon’s HP. Feeding it a few Kelpsy berries can’t hurt, either.

As you repeat this process, check in with your Chingling to monitor its friendship level. You can do this by pressing the A button while facing your Pokemon during a picnic. A series of hearts will appear above its head, symbolizing the strength of your bond. With two or more hearts, your Chingling is ready to evolve into Chimecho the next time it levels up.

That’s all you need to do to evolve your Chingling in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Teal Mask. For more tips and tricks to help you on your new journey in the Kitakami region, check out our dedicated guides hub.
