Sons of Valhalla: Early Base Building Tips

Build the best base in Sons of Valhalla and bring enemies to their knees.

Sons of Valhalla is a strategy-based game where you’ll have to capture enemy outposts and make them your own. If you plan carefully, defending against the enemy will be easier. Here are the best early base-building tips in Sons of Valhalla.

Base Building Tips in Sons of Valhalla

To set yourself up for success, you’ll need to make a strong base as fast as possible. In each level, you’ll start with a small base where you can only build a limited amount of buildings. To add more, you’ll need to upgrade your town hall, which will cost money and resources. On top of all that, you’ll have to worry about defending your base from invaders. Through trial and multiple errors, I’ve found the most efficient ways to build a strong base in Sons of Valhalla.

Barracks First

The first building you should make is the Barracks. This allows you to recruit new Swordsmen to defend your base while you work on leveling it up. I recommend placing this in the far right of your base by the gate. It’s the most useful area for replenishing your troops when defending or attacking outposts since it significantly reduces travel time.

Resources

Now that you have a way to defend yourself, you’ll want to work on upgrading the base as fast as possible. This means you’ll need to build the Woodcutter Hut and Fishing Hut. These will give you wood and fish, respectively. They are necessary to upgrade your buildings and recruit more troops.

I recommend placing these in the far left of your base so they’re the furthest away from enemy attacks when they raid. I found out the hard way that if they’re destroyed after you upgrade them, they’ll start at the first level when you rebuild them, which will severely slow down your progress.

Upgrade Mead Hall

Now that you have access to resources, you must be patient until you have enough to upgrade your Mead Hall. This will allow you to have more troops and upgrade your buildings by one level.

Archery Range

After upgrading your Mead Hall, I recommend you build the Archery Range and Watchtower. This allows you to have archers on the Watchtower which is by far the best defense for your base. I recommend placing the Archery Range next to the Barracks so you can easily have access to all of your troops.

Final Steps

Now that you have a strong defense for your base, you can focus on getting it to the final stages. To do this, you’ll want to upgrade your resources again to have a faster passive income from wood and fish.

When you have enough resources, the last main building you’ll need is the Siege Workshop. This allows you to make the Catapult and Ram, which are essential for capturing enemy outposts and bases. However, they’re not as useful when defending your base, so I recommend saving it toward the end. This should be placed next to the rest of your troops.

The final step in building your base is to upgrade the rest of your buildings. At this point, you can capture an outpost or build your base further; it’s up to you. It should be noted that you can build a Blacksmith, where you can upgrade your own attacks or have him join you in fights. However, it’s unnecessary at the beginning of the game, so your resources are better spent upgrading your other buildings.
