The Sims 4: How to Quit a Job

You might not want to keep your Sim in the same line of work for their entire life. In that case, here’s how to quit a job in The Sims 4.

How Do You Quit a Job in The Sims 4?

Use the Phone

Quitting jobs in The Sims 4 relies on the smartphone that Sims have by default. Since the Sim’s phone is at the center of many functions, it’s not surprising that it’s the key to quitting a job. Select the Sim you want to quit, use the Phone Icon on the bottom by their portrait, then go to the Careers tab. I remember it as the one with the little briefcase image. As long as your Sim is employed, the “Quit Job” option will come up. A pop-up appears and then you simply confirm you’re certain that you want to quit.

Use the Computer

This interaction can be done on the computer as well. Choose your Sim, interact with the computer, then navigate to “Careers” and select “Quit Job.” After that, you get the same pop-up asking you to confirm you’re certain about quitting. Then, you’re free to find a new line of work.

How to Fix the Can’t Quit Job Bug

You might run into an issue where you can’t quit. And you have a few options to fix it in that case. First, try to use the opposite method of what you used before (Phone if you used Computer, and Computer if you used Phone). If that doesn’t work, you could send your Sim to another household or a public building like the Library with Computers and try quitting from there. Otherwise, you might want to save and exit your game, then relaunch it and see if that works.

As a last resort, you can go into Edit Town and move the Sim out of the household, then move them back in. You might have to go a step further and create a copy of the Sim, delete the original, and then move the copy into the household to assume the identity of the original like a body snatcher scenario.

And that’s how to quit a job in The Sims 4. The Library trick tends to work when there are glitches, so it’s useful to keep in mind. From here, check out our Sims 4 guide hub for more topics like all ways to kill a Sim or how Family Dynamics work.
